eFootball (All Platforms)

Looking at the controls they seem to have added manual shielding? Has anyone tried this out?
I haven't yet but it sounds good.

One of my major frustrations with 2021 was that autoshield animation that the game locks you in when your trying run in a certain direction, It's decided for you that you must stand still and jostle at all costs rather than give me agency to attempt to run away and lose it under my own misjudgement.

One of the screens is from PES Mobile other one is the " next-gen "PS5 version.

So, and I don't want to sound like an asshole, while everyone was busy jerking themselves off over the super duper incredible possibilities of a built from the ground-up next-gen version of PES running on Unreal, Konami was busy getting the 'next-gen' and mobile version to be a single game, that's scalable between both platforms. Because it's easier and cheaper to develop. This seems to be the whole point of transitioning the console game to Unreal, not to make the incredible football game that everyone was expecting.

Seems like this server stress test is indeed your next-gen football game.

It's very disappointing on one hand and the perfect example of the disconnect between Konami and its costumers on the other.

Man, these floaty goalkeepers. The same broken animations since forever. I don't understand how this is possible.
Have you seen the floating goalkeeper animations during open play?

I only saw them during penalties, where they're so floaty they can hover and save anything if they go in the right direction... But during open play I've seen a few goals from distance that I'm convinced wouldn't have been goals in PES 2020 or 2021, because the goalkeepers would just magically get there.

God I hope not.
It’s a clever psychological trick IMO with 4 sounding higher/greater it gives an idea that you should be moving up towards it, if you know what I mean. Especially for anyone who’s new.
Same with auto-feints which is now either 'easy' or ‘manual'. I approve

Yeah pretty much that.

If there was a new game built from the ground up in existence, Konami wouldn’t have released this. They think that this is the best gameplay ever and doesn’t need overhauling or to be built from the ground up and don’t want to take the risk of being innovative in case they lose the myclub & esports fan base they’ve worked hard to build over the last few years.

The market desperately needs a new option. If I had an capability I would crowdfund haha.

I suppose I don’t mean identical but what I mean is, obviously the PS5 would be capable of having things like better collision systems, ball physics, AI & tactics - true next gen elements that a mobile version simply couldn’t do.

But those things would push the PS5 version way ahead of the PS4, mobile & switch games so that it would be unrecognisable in comparison and I don’t think Konami want that.

The best comparison to what I mean is probably fortnite? It’s the same game on all playforms just the PS4 version has slightly better graphics and more polish.

For sure the end of PES for me too haha. Especially if PC isn’t capable of mods. There are so many good patches for PES 3-6 that I can get my football fix from anyway, it wouldn’t be too bad.

Sure, it will have better physics, AI and tactics on console, but it will still be limited to be a game that has to be scalable to mobile. We waited so much for the game to switch to a much more advanced engine yet now that we have Unreal Engine it seems they are using it just because it's scalable and easy to develop for. It seems like they will never unlock the true potential these new consoles can offer.

I think those words from Konami calling it a beta and saying that this is the current product are clear enough. Unless it's another case of the truly awful Konami marketing. I sincerely hope so. I don't want this. I want a true next gen game free from restrictions thanks to the power of next gen consoles.

From the videos I have seen and heard so far, the sound design remains exactly the same...terrible! Crowd does not react properly to what's going on in the pitch and there is no proper atmosphere when a goal is scored, just a little roar and the usual robotic chanting in the background as if nothing really happened and players are passing the ball around their own half. These kinds of things annoy me to death and are still there

Come on, mate.

It has no ball physics. What it has instead are animations that look like ball physics. There are zero actual ball physics that rely on the laws of physics being calculated in real time. They had this in pes 14, then got rid of them for pes 15 because they were unable to have ball physics and players who could react sensibly and responsively. It was one or the other. I expected this would finally change with unreal engine. Apparently not.

Re defensive AI: What I mean by this is that nobody is thinking, nobody is making any kind of decision in real time, there is no compression, no holding of the line other than as pre-programmed, no covering of space. So there is a basic AI, but nothing worth speaking about.

I dont mean to sound all negative. I know it can irritating to read that and you'll see from my post history that I've been quite positive about pes 20 vanilla and not really a negative poster. But I genuinely believe in what I've written.

Nope! And further to that, PES 2021 has far too many issues to glaze over for me.

I didn’t mind PES 2020 when it was the current game but after essentially 2 years of playing the same game, I now really dislike it. Major issues IMO such as poor attacking & defensive AI, poor shot variation, inability to dribble past players, floaty goalkeepers, terrible collision system, terrible referees now look like they won’t be fixed on what would’ve been the perfect fresh start for Konami to address these things. But they obviously don’t see them as an issue and want to copy & paste the gameplay again.

They wouldn't release it with a giant PS5 gamepad if it weren't the next-gen release. I'm as disappointed as everyone else with the visuals. I mean, my modded PES 2021 looks more like a real game than this release, but it's a clear visual improvement over the unmodded PS4 version. Animations wise it's a step forward, but that's all it is. I like the cutscenes etc.

As for what really matters: Gameplay and Physics etc, I won't even comment on it because things seem way too floaty and ice-skating that I'm sure it's not final yet. It's just weird to release such a beta test with those kind of elements being far from completion and risk tarnishing the game's reputation before its released. YouTube will be flooded with "PES 2022 gameplay" videos, and it will turn many people off the franchise.

I came home from work for a while to test it, I just couldn't wait it, and now while I'm waiting it to download I thought ... What a terrible first impression, huh? Just think, they had almost 3 years to prepare for this moment, the debut of a new engine and a new generation of PES games and .. show this mess of the game? It even sounds like a joke, if you think about it, but it's a reality ... This does not show the sad truth once again, how incompetent are Konami or just do not care anymore? They made us play a game for two years, with great promises and now they are serving us this ... I'm already mega disappointed and I haven't even played the game yet ...

Yh it works ok. But haven’t tried enough only played 2 games and just passing the ball was a slog. The controls and camera are my biggest gripe with regards to trying to enjoy it. Trying to play fuma is almost impossible with the constant changing of angles.

Love the view from the moon after a goal. Nice touch

I’m still trying to work out the buttons and it’s a nightmare tbh ..

has anyone worked out how to defend yet? Some welcome changes and no 2nd man press anymore as far as I can tell. There’s some promising little bits and bobs in there, but it’s hard to look past those 'graphics'. 🤢

This is you and me right now

I still can’t believe that every other first touch flicks up above the players knee.

You hardly ever see professional players take such a bad touch regardless of how firm the pass is or how quick they’re running.

You know you can customise the buttons though, so they can be the same as you're used to?

Likewise, I couldn't see a secondary press button - it might even be deliberate, to stop people endlessly pressing and introducing a "skill gap" for the esports market.

Eurogamer are referring to it as a demo, citing conversations with Konami where they also refer to it as such (clearly it's very early - but either way, this is where the code was, not that long ago).

This is definitely the core gameplay with the final release having some extra polish and few more bells & whistles.

I’m struggling to see any new features at all… I mean usually Konami will add some new features to the game even if they lie about it’s gameplay impact in the press release.

Are they going to tell us L2 shielding is the main new gameplay improvement / feature? After 2 years of development and on a new generation of extremely powerful consoles?

With next gen FIFA also pretty much being the same game with polished graphics… We may actually be at a point where football games aren’t going to get any better and will stagnate, despite the increasing power and capabilities of the hardware.

Rather secondary but...is this the new camera angle? Have the got rid of the stadium camera, the one genuinely new, progressive thing about pes 20 and 21?
Wouldnt surprise me.

Seems more and more like this is pes 22.
