Woah! dont take my word for it...
I dont know what this is!
Im as discombobulated as everyone else here. It was pure guess with the mobile version..
Its Konami we're talking about.. it might as well be Silent Hill demo, coz its scary!

Yeah, it's total shit, I mean really, really shit. It feels like something you'd expect as a first stab at a beta by a new developer, and still be underwhelmed by.

Totally agree about no new freedom. Full manual is still there but the whole game feels awful and is still full of so many of the annoyances and limitations of the previous games. No way is this a rebuild from the ground up in terms of gameplay. AI is appalling. Player switching causes your player to go into a brief spasm or run away from the ball, completely breaking the flow. Player awareness is still pathetic.

It feels so clunky and basic. I literally see nothing in this that looks or feels like progress.

As for gfx, I really don't care about them but they're definitely worse than PES18, let alone PES21 (on PS4).

In terms of it being purely a test of online, I played 3 matches and 2 of them crashed about 10 minutes in.

I thought I might be overreacting...but it's just the worst thing I've played. Yep, like some first ever attempt by some graduates in a bedroom.

Ive become apathetic re konami, just pity them more than anything, they seem clueless. Quite enjoyed vanilla pes 20 but gave up around November, pes 21 tried the lite version but bored after 10 mins. This game/thing is a huge step back on those games.

I just cant imagine anyone would release this on any platform...unless...(horror...) it represents what you're sending out on release day. I cannot imagine any other developer allowing someone to their game in this state...

I played one half. The reason being this game, whatever it is, is the most appalling football game I've ever played. I had to quit, I'm sure the other guy understood.

There is nothing, nothing, that represents any improvement on pes 21. If anything, it plays like a beta for that game.
It's just utterly unplayable.

Reasons:

There is no new freedom. The game is as rigid as before, it's simply softer.
There seem to be no ball physics and fewer physics than before.
The players feel heavy, yes, but also like tanks. Dribbling is a nightmare. It feels dumbed down and the control scheme changes border on the sociopathic.
The graphics are simply diabolical.
The only thing that looks right are the players models, but then they stoop whenever they run, like fifa 96.

This simply cannot be pes 22 on ps5. It cant be pes 22 on ps4, it's that bad.
Even as a mobile game it would be terrible.

And if this is in any way the base for pes 22 ps5, then unless it's the 5% version, I honestly dont see anything other than a disaster.

It's honestly so bad that there is simply no way it can be related to pes 22 ps5.

What concerns me is that if it is in any way related to it, then there are clearly no.ball physics. None whatsoever. It's just like pes on ps4. No amount of development can add physics after the fact. They're there from day 1 or not at all. What they can add is physic-animations. not real physics.

I'm hoping that in a couple months, I'll look back on this.post and think "what a strange time that was, how wrong I was, concerned about nothing, hysterical fool..." but honestly, I wonder.
We are 2-3 months from release. How can they not have something better than this to use. Pes 2011 and pes 2016 had great online betas around this time, maybe a little later. This is a grotesque.

That image I posted does not bode well.
You're exaggerating man.

You're exaggerating man.

I dont think I am.

I feel what I wrote is a harsh, unsparing but fair assessment of the game I played.
It has no ball physics, no defensive AI to speak of, no individuality, the graphics are grainy, the players unresponsive, there are no tactics, no variation in pace, no excitement, the players lurch everytime you switch to them, the ball is tethered to the foot...

I think the game is dreadful.
Mainly, I'm just bemused at its existence.

I've not played any football games in about a year, with the exception of a but of fifa 16 vanilla. I dont feel any real anticipation in pes 22 release and so nothings at stake for me really. I dont really have any hope, if its rubbish, fine, I'll keep reading more books than I used to.

But honestly, I do think this game is as bad as I initially wrote. Honestly held belief.

There's a line that the stadium commentator says, that's something like "the club would like to remind those that are intoxicated that you will be ejected from the ground if" etc... It just seems like, if you're going to have a stadium commentator who says 4-5 different things (rather than 100), maybe they could have picked something else for him to talk about (especially in a game for all ages). Just seems like a really odd decision...

Only Konami would fucking DARE to put such a terrible first look to their brand new game to the public.

It's baffling that this is something open to the public, these networking betas are pretty normal for games. But they're closed, always closed, because the experience won't be good.

It doesn't help that on top of that they decided to just slap the mobile version into the consoles. Even if the final game is miles ahead, again, this will be the first look fans have at your game. It's just bizarre.

Everyone says it looks like mobile game.
Did no one think that it might actually be the mobile version, ported to consoles just to test online?
Mobile version runs on unreal engine for a while now.
Of course it bloody is just a test of the mobile game, can't believe people here and on Twitter are discussing it like it could be PES22 alpha etc. So obvious as soon as I saw the graphics, controls, no 2nd press and cursor below feet (like PES mobile) that it's just a test for the mobile game.

I don't think it's the worst thing I've ever played (I played some of the FIFA games about 20 years ago) but for me, it's the clear lack of any new development in terms of AI (in particular, what your teammates are doing) that is so disappointing. At the very least, I expected this to be a port of PES21 and hoped there'd be at least some signs of new work on the AI that the Unreal engine would enable. I don't see anything new.

This reminds me of of the move to PS3 and PS2008?, where it was just an empty shell of a game, and stayed that way for a few years.

Hope you're right, but why release this without explicitly stating that when they know that people are anticipating PES22?

That is the very, very, very last thing I wanted, personally. I mean, if you like PES 2021, you can play that right now!

We've been playing the same basic PES game for years, with no advancements into the 21st century in terms of movement, animation (in relation to responsiveness), mechanics... I don't ever want to touch that game again.

Bearing that in mind, whatever this test is (even if it's just the mobile version ported over), I genuinely prefer it. As broken as it is, it's different...

Yeah this game on PS5 is really rough.
I can understand why they didn't put PES title on it, hopefully this is nowhere near the final game.

I suspect at this point they just care about zero for marketing and pr stuff. If they are quite relaxed releasing this mobile like stuff without giving good context, they might think people will still be hooked to their online thing no matter what (which they probably will, anyway).

For what it's worth it truly looks bad.

I've played both pes2021 on pc and mobile (but dumped them on dec last year) and they look different. Pes mobile is way more basic than this. Maybe this is pes mobile 2022?

Looking at the controls they seem to have added manual shielding? Has anyone tried this out?

I did. It felt awkward like I was tethered to the all. The problem is the players are all so far apart, and the game is so vertical, it was hard to find a time to do it, although I only played 1 half.

Well, they did release a football game demo on the ps5 three months before pes 22 is due. It's hardly surprising people took it to be related to that release. But I understand your point.

I think the concern is that this may in any way relate to pes 22 on ps5. Because if it does, that spells trouble, because none of the signatures of real world physics for ball or players are there...

Whether he’s bullshitting or not about being in the know, I believe PES 2022 will be just that.

It will have great graphics but be plagued with the same issues that PES has had the whole of the last generation (poor AI, poor collisions, poor refs, poor modes etc.) and have gameplay geared towards the instant satisfaction of esports & myclub.

I told you guys…

It will be easy for Konami to add a later of polish for the PS5 version (player models, faces, lighting etc.) but the core gameplay we’re getting is going to be the same as last gen. Konami are happy with how the game plays currently hence why the last press release was all about graphics.

The gameplay of the final game will be very similar to this online beta test thing, fine tuned in certain areas (a few extra animations here and there) but certainly no overhaul.

Really odd decision to talk about intoxicated people though, don't you think? Really odd thing to include, when you could talk about anything. I can see that line getting pulled considering it's a game for all ages!
Maybe they are also related to that new Silent Hill game 😄

I noticed the PlayStation logo appears during matchmaking, could be this a sign of cross play between PS/Xbox/PC?

I just looked on twitter people reacting to ign news calling it a demo for Pes 2022. There is no need to say everyone is trashing it.

Good job, Konami.
Oh... classic Konami. This is why you make your betas private.

Although it's true they did their absolute best to assure the users this wasn't PES, putting this out there when we haven't heard anything from the game and with almost two years of development will obviously make everyone nervous.

I dont know if you know but...how long would it take to port over all the previous gameplay to unreal and then add super graphics? Is that a two year job for a small, incompetent team? Or is it a 6 month job, and so surely theyve done something to the actual gameplay in all that time...?

My biggest takeaway (other than the Domino's Double Decadence pizza I had last week) is that, it's different from PES 2020/2021, and therefore I'm just glad we will have something different to play this year.

It does feel, as @Emroth says, like the mobile version ported to PS4/PS5 (I'm on PS5). Nothing more, nothing less.

Which suggests that their base for their super-amazing next-gen wonder-game... is a mobile game. Yay...

It's clearly very early though. There's no individuality whatsoever, every player is the same (but I don't mean that in an exaggerated way, I mean literally, I don't think it's been coded in yet that attributes make a difference).

There are also zero offsides (in the games I played anyway) - the AI is just positionally perfect, so they never happen. It seems to me that "error" or deviation just hasn't been coded in yet.

Now, either that's to make the game quicker (for mobile players) - or this is new code that's at a very basic stage. Does anyone know if the mobile version has these two issues (no real individuality and no offsides)?

I also didn't see a single foul (without deliberately hacking down a player with the slide tackle, at least), but I've read others say there are too many, so I'm not sure what happened in my games...!

There ARE positives though. While everything is still very much "one speed only" (you don't have stages of play that are much faster than others, or rocket shots - the players and the ball move at the same speed all of the time)...

...I DID see more variety in shots, with long shots having MUCH more of a chance of going in, and dribbling felt a little more fun to me, with less "stickiness" and/or lag when it comes to controller input.

The reason being, the ball seems to actually be a separate entity now (HALLELUJAH!) - or at least, it has much more freedom. I didn't see goalkeeper animations speeding up so that they always save certain shots, either.

All very interesting...
