eFootball (All Platforms)

They probably have better version (but still horrible) which they buff to much for mobile phones, and needed to downgrade it so it can run on Android.

That is entire enigma if you ask me.

Yep. This is 100% the mobile game, upgraded with higher fidelity player models, and given new gameplay mechanics. But it's the mobile game, and lacks any nuance or complexity that used to be the staple of this series for decades.

Moving forward, there are no patches or mods that can make this game anywhere as complicated as even Winning Eleven 9, as it still needs to run on a phone. One solution is for them to stream the game's "brains" off a server so it's always online, the way MSFS does with its textures. But yeah, eFootball is a mobile game with enhanced player models, lighting and new gameplay mechanics and that's it.
I wasn't thinking that someday you'll agree so fast with the fact that's a mobile game knowing all our contradictions here. And that's a valorous treat that you have to accept the "red pill" as it is. In the end we're all in the same boat here sinking in an ocean full of sharks during waves of shitstorms and this is what we've got from a publisher that showed their intentions. Hope someday will get something acceptable closer to football that we can enjoy like on the old nostalgic days and you can continue with proper realism reviews as you did until now. I'm really sorry man that you're disappointed I'm also sick of this, but it is what it is...

Even at this stage, is obviosled.
eFootball 2022 exceeds PES20/21 by all measures, (including visual style and depth of technical capacity for PC version)

I hope in future, you'll change your mind,
Of course if konami doesn't blow what we got so far.

another cheers!

WTF YOU GUYS ARE TSLKING ABOUT

WHAT DRUGS ARE YOU ON?

THIS GAME WILL BE A DREAM IF THEY KEEP WORKING ON IT WOTHOU TAKING THE ESSENCE

I'm at work so if someone could drop a pic of a clown I'd appreciate it cheers

Alright, missed this thread and just played the game.

1: This is the worst controlling thing I ever played, and I am counting Big Rigs
2: Where are the tactics
3: If all of the teams are available in the special event, why can't we play them in the friendly? So that we have to pay for them?
4: It just feels unfinished sometimes

I think they made it F2P because it wasn't ready, they knew it sucks, and they couldn't possibly get away with it unscathed. I am so, FUCKING, disappointed, expecially after 2 years of waiting (this was supposed to be pes 2021, remember?)

PS: Even if it's free, I want my money back

where the f…k did they put the set pieces and the captain's armband? am I getting moron that I can't find it or has Konami forgotten to put this on too?
From what I can tell all you can do in the Game Plan screen, at least right now, is change the line up, manually drag players to different positions, and choose one of the 5 tactics. That's it. I haven't even found a way to change formations, besides manually dragging every single player to their respective positions, which would already be far from ideal in any other game, but here where the Game Plan screen lags so much it's even worse. Also, it looks like you can't save tactics, so if actually do spend a few minutes setting up your team in a way you like, prepare yourself to do that before every single match, because you can't save it.

How does Konami save themself from this

A Very bad optimized BEAST!

Best movement on the ball animations and Pace ever.

I am already seeing them cuttinf half of the animations to make it more "responsive".

Yes, there's a few responsive issues, like player running to one direction and You need him to turn to opposite the direction, but the exact right direction.

Problem has more to do with simple better analogue reeponse, but not with animations and physics.

Ball needs to roll quicker with more Power button sensibility.

Many áreas to work on and some small adjustments, but the essence needs to be maintained.

The assets look like they might be the same to me but the polygon count is drastically reduced. It's a terrible sign that in order to improve the lighting/shadows etc. they had to sacrifice the crowd detail. Don't forget that the leaked footage had really awful frame drops, it's possible that this was a hastily implemented optimisation to get the game at least playable.

Performance and optimization is out of the window.

The the tunnel intro, half time - players leaving the field, all the in match cutscenes [goal celebrations, fouls, goal miss etc] are locked to 30 FPS on pc.

But then the pre tunnel cutscenes [players in locker room, players entering with suits], 2nd half intro [players re entering the field] and post match interview cutscenes are not capped to 30 fps and looks better.

With that being said, even those cutscenes cant maintain locked 60 fps and hover around 37-45 fps on my 980 ti. But at least this means it might be possible to achieve smooth 60 fps with better GPUs. But if the other cutscenes are hard locked to 30 FPS, not only it looks jarring switching from 60 fps gameplay to 30, they seem to be bugged on my end and doesn't have motion blur either. And has frame pacing issues [just stuttering], making it look worse than PEs 21's cutscenes with 30 fps cap from the settings menu.

There is also another horrible artistic choice by the devs. Even during gameplay camera, there is chromatic aberration which gradually becomes more intense on the both sides of the screen, making the players on the edges of the screen look like blurry mess.

Who's brilliant idea was it to add CA on gameplay camera on top of that vomit inducing sharpening filter?

One of the main issues for me is that by removing the ai 1/2/3 man press with the square button, it essentially turns your team into a one man defence as only the player you're controlling can do anything defensive related. So, in my experience, I end up having a defender I'm in control of running across the entire backline doing all the work. I dare not try and switch as the responsiveness is so poor from switching players.

I was doing the same! Player switching is a mess. Switch to someone in the same postcode, hold down :l2: until they arrive at the scene of the ball, press :square: to win the ball (without fail). Job done. Press :x: to get the ball moving, and cook a whole fucking roast dinner while the ball reaches its destination.

I play PES 5 and 6 from time to time. They are both masterpiece games, but somehow they do not satisfy me anymore. Can't say if it's the old rosters, the graphics or the controls, but they just don't click with me like they used to.
With PES21 I play mostly Serie A League with rosters updated to current season and I really enjoy it. Did not try FIFA 22 because FIFA 21 was a big disappointment and can't believe they filled the gap in just 1 year...
I think it's based on how the games were at the time. PES5 was my highlight in the series, but that's related to my feelings towards it back in 2005/2006/2007 (I skipped PES6 as PES5 was so awesome and the 6 demo felt arcadey in comparison). I've not had that same feeling since towards a PES. Technically speaking though, PES21 is far superior though to PES5. I really like PES20/21 personally. Best of the PS4 generation....BUT... I don't play it as religiously as I did PES5 back in the day. Maybe it's an age thing, but that said I still game as much as I did. I think I just have more other types of games I prefer now. I need to go back to PES5 and see how I feel about it now. It will probably just be a nostalgia thing though, rather than a feeling that I could play it 5 hours each evening like I could have done easily during the season it was released.

dont want to quote myself again, so the only big flaw for me the secondary press can be somewhat jacked into the game with some finger acrobatics on the pad with "match-up" holding down and player switching around, sort of push and move them a bit more, but of course its not a good game design, if/when they introduce online coop so 2/3 people on one team it will help the game so much, playing like this alone either on or offline? hmm...i guess not, does not resemble modern football much too static, they should atleast "fix" the quick counter tactic then so not just one player gets triggered to move most the time

its just one flaw, but if you divide the game into two parts, on and off the ball, thats 50% of the gameplay basically almost broken, its huge effect (for me anyway)

easy to be fixed, but do they want that, its not technical or financial decision, ok its like half financial and half poor design choice

What a sad pathetic ending to a product that we loved dearly and genuinely tried to save.

Spoony whatever his name posted a you tube video where he laughs hysterically at the game, Random accounts popping up on social media with the same argument of I see some positives and asking for constructive feedback, This release is a total scandal and is an insult to the video game industry.

And this guy too, Remember when he tried to shut evo web down cause of negativity lol

Using the (already on Unreal) mobile game as a base for eFootball was a decision that made sense financially, for a small company like Konami, especially with their largest player base being already on mobile. It's much more expensive to rewrite gameplay from scratch so that the sophisticated PES can run in unreal, while making sure it runs on mobiles too. I get it. The downside is, the game plays like a mobile game, and is as nuanced and as sophisticated as a mobile game is i.e. shallow with just very poor mechanics.

They made their decision. They'll probably be putting the bare minimum development in this game, barely enough for it to generate money online.

Saw that, hilarious. IGN has a pretty brutal write up as well, not sure if it got posted: https://www.ign.com/articles/konamis-efootball-having-very-bad-launch

I've been lurking Twitter for a while, and at the risk of over-generalisation one thing I've always noticed is how much the Arabic-speaking community loves recent PES games (including the mobile version). The fact that even they seem to have turned against it is perhaps the most striking portent of doom I've seen yet. Even seen some of them posting this image like they've got a campaign going or something:

I can't see how they turn this one around, it would take a miracle.

It's not impossible for them to pull a No Man's Sky.

But will they? That is the real question. And how long will they take if they ever will? And what will happen to offline and modding stuff? If they can fix their shit, they might be able to gain traction again. But screwing up this much at release will just make things difficult. And will they have the same passion and patience as NMS devs to be able to turn this game into something good?

Of course it's impossible, it's a mobile game. What works on a ps5 has to work on a mobile.

There is a big subjective component in experiencing a video game.
To me this version of eFootball is an abomination, shouldn't even been released in such a state. But I would not kid or demonize people who enjoy it, I'm even jealous that they can find enjoyment in the game whereas I really cannot.
For instance PES 21 is a game I really like and still enjoy a lot. I've seen many shit on PES 21 and then praise FIFA gameplay.
To me PES 21 is better than any FIFA I've played. FIFA has great presentation but when it comes to gameplay it's not fun to me and does not feel like football.
If you add the limited editing options and the lack of national teams it's a no-go for me.
I'm not always understanding of the disdain from some towards 2021 but each to their own. We all want the perfect PES/WE game but have different things which are game-killers, etc. PES6/PES2017/PES2021 have been my favorite titles and somebody could probably find a good reason for that as it's very likely my mentality as to what I enjoy as opposed to whether they are genuinely the most realistic, best sim, best arcade experience, best ML, etc.

I haven't enjoyed FIFA since the 15/16 era and this year's is a leap forward but they were literally coming from the 2021 version which was an abomination unto the good Lord himself. FIFA 2022 has a lot of potential but the elements which have turned me off FIFA since 2017 are still there. I don't feel any passion or affection towards the game. It doesn't matter what they do to the gameplay on FIFA, it always feels plastic/artificial which given it's a game, should be understandable but I just don't care if I win or lose on it, I feel like I'm just grinding to play and not enjoying the experience.

Maybe nothing will replace that romance we have with PES 5/6, goodness knows I spent about 1,000 hours making patches for them and a few titles after. Playing PES 6 against my friends are some of my happiest memories. I don't have a PS2 anymore but I still have the PC version and I think I'll always play it occasionally, even in 50 years time.

I guess the only consolation if they don't make eFootball into something better is that it didn't have our beloved 'PES' or 'WE' tag to it. Yes, it's by Konami but so is Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania. PES is king and always will be. It just won't be the latest version.
