I found some HD gameplay footage, it's from This is Football 2004 but it seems pretty similar to me. It's honestly the game that the "New Football Demo" most reminded me of.
Yep, the UI and general presentation is awful. Not sure what they were thinking with that, but I guess it's awful to the point of being memorable now, so no chance of confusing any screenshots with FIFA or any of the new F2P football games coming up. That said, right now I think presentation of menus and scoreboards is the least of our concerns. I imagine everyone just wants a game that plays well to start with, then the pretty stuff can be worked on later.9:40 - The nets are about equal though
Superbly argued, not sure how you can read that, seeing all the facts laid bare, and stick to the "poor old Konami" narrative. Also, what is the excuse for the atrocious UI and general presentation? Is that down to COVID as well? Some fan on Twitter designed menu screens (with their awful colour scheme) that still looks infinitely better and actually befitting of a game made by a team of professionals. It's not "unfortunate circumstances", it's lazyness, lack of attention to detail, lack of pride and dignity in your work, and rank incompetence.
In that Barcelona teaser even the spanish commentary it's 100% identical word by word like in previous PES games. Those camera angles, players in the tunnel, those captures from the stadium during the entrance of the players, it's all the same. The only parts that are new are those pre-match/half time cutscenes with players interacting and the warm up before the match. So it's just some makeup added on top of those assests from previous games to create an illusion that eFootball will be something different, but it falls short when the other 90% of the game kicks in. Like never before we don't have any official gameplay 15 days before the release like they're trying to cook something fast in the oven before midnight...I saw it on a YouTube channel ( given that of course we have take this with a grain of salt) where the topic of the video was exactly this, does the game still use the fox engine? The guy in the video referenced a supposed interview of Kimura where he said no, it’s the Unreal engine.
That said the fox engine “legacy” is pretty obvious on the game. They are clearly using assets from the old game. You can see that on the animations, and in that respect the goalkeeper and shooting animations are a dead giveaway( some are pretty bad, as they were in PES).
Yesterday someone putted here a Efootball Barcelona trailer. One small detail that I noticed and screamed old fox engine PES was a frame where you could see the conner flag of the stadium.
It had the exactly same graphic style of old PES. That small detail of an larger asset (the stadium itself) tells me the stadiums are imports of the old engine also.
The game looks very rushed, and as I said before in my opinion in the present state it’s not even ready to been show to the public let alone being released by the end of the month.
I think we would be surprised if we learned for how long this as been in development. Certainly this is not a work of two or three years, and I bet this doesn’t have even a full year of development.
Did we get gameplay trailers/official gameplay footage much time before the demo was released in previous years? I know they did gameplay tests for community members before and they did gameplay tests at gaming events for the general public, right? Just trying to remember what we used to see each year before the demo came out. They have done the gameplay tests this year, so that hasn't changed and I guess we will see footage next week. We should really see the 30th September as nothing more than a demo launch. There's no game around it to be anything more than that.In that Barcelona teaser even the spanish commentary it's 100% identical word by word like in previous PES games. It's something similar to those lies from previous years when they marketed the "dynamic day/night cycle" bullshit for PES 2019, or big improvements with a "revolutionary AI" that never existed in FOX engine as they said, but at least every year we've got some legit gameplay footage or some transperent PES presentation. Not to mention those interviews dedicated to improvements like photorealistic graphics and next-gen in their brand new eFootball, and in the end we saw what was so photorealistic and innovative after that in those trailers/leaks... Like @janguv said in a post, it's an ugly with some 💄 in the end...
Of course it’s laziness and lack of care.9:40 - The nets are about equal though

Yes, those tests/events were public with some minor footage released on youtube/twitch without acting in full hidden secrecy... I've never waited so long for the "mysterious" gameplay to be shown on public officialy on some small degree until this year (of course if you don't count those leaks...) Also this can't be considered like a demo because it's a full official release, and should be treated expecting some acceptable standards from it (bare bone F2P or not)...Did we get gameplay trailers/official gameplay footage much time before the demo was released in previous years? They have literally said this is now essentially a demo on their 30th September launch. eFootball will look a lot different in 6-12 months time I'd hope, preferably to the point that it looks more like a traditional release. The only things we can actually assess on the 30th is it's gameplay, ai and stability online. These, I hope, and I'd expect, will improve over time. Fortunately all previous versions of the game formerly known as PES will still be working so I can get my ML and co-op World Cup fix until eFootball adds these modes.
Yeah I mean, I don't think people fully realize how bad it is, from this point of view, that the only thing we'll have from now on is an unique and eternally upgrading platform. Means that if you loved gameplay in 2022, and in 2023 kids decides the meta (sic) should be different, you can say it goodbye forever. I seriously struggle to see how could somebody who enjoys offline praise and be happy with a similar formula. To me it's maybe the most off putting of it all.It is a full official release. They only called that essentially a demo, because of the lack of content, but gameplay standards should be almost final like @etb10dmk told. There will be adjustments here and there after the game is out, for the best or for the worse, and that is the problem of F2P, since you will not have a vanilla game anymore, you will have to stick to whatever changes they do to catter the audience that gives them more money. So if you like the game on release, but little kids that spend the money on coins, and myclub, shout out that the game is slow, or that it´s to difficult to score, or to defend, they will change the balance of the game to cather that audience, and you will end up disliking the game, and the problem is that it will change for everyone and every mode, be it online or offline, and so the, let´s say, 20€ you spent on ML offline mode as an example, will be in trash since the gameplay you loved when you bought the mode is now changed, for worse (at least for you).
I get that it can be defined as the official release as it is the base from which they build eFootball up from. I guess my main question is, would people rather they release this once all the modes and content are ready, potentially meaning we don't get to play anything of the game for another 6-12 months? It is a full official release. Anyone here played Age of Empires back in the day? Looks like it's following the same path as PES. The last game Age of Empires 3 was released in 2005. When Age of Empires 4 was first announced, the thought of a modern version of the game with cutting edge graphics/animation was a mouthwatering prospect. Instead what they are releasing looks like a cartoony piece of crap and might end up looking worse than the remastered version of the third game.
From 4 minutes in this guy discusses the likely reasoning behind it (hint: crossplay). The idea that games could be deliberately scaled down just so they appear consistent between platforms is mind-boggling.
The 5 meters around the ball is where all the fun of soccer is.
I played a version on my iPad a while ago. Was surprised how good it was in terms of how they handled the controls on a touch screen. It's nowhere near as good as playing on a console, but can see why it's done so well on touch screen devices as it's been well designed. Not sure how someone playing with touchscreen controls could compete with someone with a controller when crossplay is enabled, but that's not something I'll have to worry about!gonna put a possibly unpopular opinion out there but I've been playing PES 21 mobile and it is actually really good (for a mobile game). Fluid controls and an impressive amount of animations. Game just feels like a step above any other football experience you would get on mobile and I've been playing it more than the console version. Not buying any coins or GP tho so go easy on me. /shill
When a man with the touchscreen meets a man with the controller, the man with the touchscreen is a dead man.I played a version on my iPad a while ago. Nothing good can come from Japanese men talking length around balls 😉So what is the appeal of "eFootball"?
At a test play session for the media held before the game's release, Seitaro Kimura, producer of the "eFootball" series, emphasized that "the evolution of the five meters around the ball will change soccer. The 5 meters around the ball is where all the fun of soccer is, whether it's a one-on-one match, a game of passing the ball, or a clash over a spilled ball.

Extra meters of fun will be added in future updates!
Oh man - you won today.
There's a certain skill involved when someone can still squeeze a good laugh out of a joke that has been beaten to death..
I personally prefer the comment about being able to feel a player in your hand. Maybe the new crowd is different to what we first thought...
I'd like to thank mr. Kimura & Konami! Thanks to them the jokes just write themselves really. 😅
