Didn't Konami say the delay was so that they could build a game designed for next-gen?

I had to do some digging, to make sure I wasn't going mad.

The PES 2021 "season update" was announced with a statement that said:

"Konami is currently 'hard at work' on a next-gen PES game that will take the franchise 'to a whole new level' with more realistic player models, animations, enhanced physics, photorealistic visuals, and more."

See this article from Gamesradar, for example.

This one from Eurogamer says it was "to focus on a full next-gen version due next year".

Sometimes we kick Konami when they're down, and Evo-Web has a reputation of being "the place people go to hate PES".

But I mean... Even for Konami... That's a pretty low blow, isn't it? "Buy our game so we can work on a truly next-gen verhahahaha, sorry, version."

It was an outright lie..........
I don't actually think it was a lie. I think they meant to do all those things, but then saw it would take time and effort and money and decided to throw all of that in the bin.

Free to play (AKA PES Lite) ok, but now show the paid next-gen version like the teaser from last year :APPLAUD:

I'm so sorry, TG.

There are so many people here who still loved PES, for all it did right, despite the flaws. It was you guys I thought of first, when watching the trailer and it started to sink in, that PES is no more. All of the hard-working editors too, guys like @Hawke who keep us playing.

I think of the truly incredible job @The_Knight did with his PES 2021 realism analysis videos. The passion that goes into it. The hope.

Crushed under the boot of a kid who needs a new toy after losing on Fortnite, and knows who Messi is from the Pepsi Max adverts.

It's truly heartbreaking and I'm so sad for you guys - and for this community that I love.

"Tam tamnanan You are powerul
Tam tamnanan You are Powerful"

Nothing more childish and ridículous than this. But its a perfect fit for the current state of the western world and its weak generation, Very emotionally unstable, narcisistic and with low self steem that needs this kind of phrase taken out of a self help book so they can feel good about themselves, and thats the reason they have also been building a game with instant glorification, a game with zero learnning curve

My prediction will be similar to the european super league but a bit longer for the u turn and pes will be back next year when they realise their monumental fuck up

Well let´s just hope their greed, makes them have the great idea of relleasing a PES 5 or 6 remastered, so that we can enjoy the offline modes :D

Fucking bastards in Konami, just ruining our last hope of a good football game. Konami should bankrupt. Can´t bluepoint or some other company buy the PES IP to Konami, and develop on that?

I was just thinking that they should release older games to new consoles to appease the old gits. Not remastered though, they would somehow mess that up and make them worse.

I'm afraid I have to be honest and say that I'm totally sad to see what new path Konami is going down. I will not go down this path. I was happy that a new next-gen version will be released and happy that the community in the evoweb forum is expimenting with it and improving great details by finding editing options. I am really sad. I loved playing "pes" and in alternation with "sega football manager". I was always fascinated by what the community made of the base game. I am 40 years old and don't want a pes "smartphone" game. I want to sit at the PC and try my luck with the wireless controller. I want to get goosebumps when the players enter the stadium and the real fan chants and anthems can be heard. I want to continue to be a part of the community and be happy every day when I see what new edited files there are. I am sad.
Greetings from Germany

It was clear that rumors are often true that people don't want to see. Konami went through many changes, including when it was announced last year the direct was still hosoda and this year it is not anymore. All plans were changed and so they asked for 1 year more. it's a big change, innovative I would say, it might be a good thing up front, but it sure is a bad thing now even more for old fans. But the silence of the team and the departures of many people from the company were in the face, he just didn't see anyone who didn't want to.

I would actually be ok with this. Been dreaming of a PES 5 & 6 HD remaster for quite some time now.

Those cutscenes with players in suits have to be for an offline mode imo. I think I'd be okay with this whole ftp thing if the game was actually massively improved.

I join Chris sentiment. I disliked the last three chapters, so the disappointment is anyway huge, but still somewhat foreseeable and expected.

But people who put sentiment in this.. the modders, the videomakers.. just as an example, it comes to my mind the infinite threads where @incas36 , @Holland and the other guys (forgive me if I don't credit you) spent months and months of their time to improve Konami's disasters. It must feel truly awful for all this guys who put heart in it waiting for a game finally worth the effort.

I hope the community can cement on whatever there is left for us. Maybe there can grow something new on these ashes.. who knows.
