Didn't Konami say the delay was so that they could build a game designed for next-gen?

I had to do some digging, to make sure I wasn't going mad.

The PES 2021 "season update" was announced with a statement that said:

"Konami is currently 'hard at work' on a next-gen PES game that will take the franchise 'to a whole new level' with more realistic player models, animations, enhanced physics, photorealistic visuals, and more."

See this article from Gamesradar, for example.

This one from Eurogamer says it was "to focus on a full next-gen version due next year".

Sometimes we kick Konami when they're down, and Evo-Web has a reputation of being "the place people go to hate PES".

But I mean... Even for Konami... That's a pretty low blow, isn't it? "Buy our game so we can work on a truly next-gen verhahahaha, sorry, version."

It was an outright lie..........

That was laughably bad. Where do you even begin to start?

I'd like to say it's been an enjoyable ride, but if we're being honest there hasn't been a decent PES since 2013. Absolute shambles of an IP that needs to be retired.
And this game only has 9 teams

Although im not a prolific poster 18 years has been a long time. Been a great read over the years but to be honest from pes 5 - 6 its been all downhill. Cant fault the passion of the guys on here though and hope the forum can get something new and exciting to focus on in the football gaming world. Sadly it wont be from konami.

We may delude ourselves as much as we want, but no-one (neither EA, nor Konami) cares about offline playing. EA can at least afford to PRETEND to "care" by rehashing ever so slightly turd-polished career mode on a yearly basis for "offliners", since FUT brings so much $$$

And did they actually lie in all the vagueness? :)

These are "whole new levels" ... just not the ones we dinosaurs would like

The thing with 'a whole new level'.... They kind of delivered ....

Who’s gunna just switch to fifa or just bin the whole idea of playing a football game now?

I can't. First of all because it's a EA game and second because I want to play a true footy game, not that shite fifa street-like they like to call football. I'll stick to Football Manager and NBA 2K.

I think by next-gen, they meant a game targeted at the next generation of children.
