eFootball (All Platforms)

Is it that konami jesus guy that was on here last year telling us that PES21 was football perfection?

If the final gameplay isn't vastly improved from this beta, I think I'm looking forward more to the reactions of these guys rather than the game itself. I mean, will they try to claim a polished version of this beta is a revolution, when most are already admitting that it's garbage because they're claiming it must be some sort of demo of a mobile port, nothing to do with the real PES22.

I gave it another go last night and realised what the floaty/woolly ball "physics" reminded me of - FIFA.

This is gonna take a a lot of polish to even get it to PES21 level. I see no signs of revolution in this beta, just a couple of new controls that could easily have been added to PES21 on Fox engine.
The floatiness was pure garbage. Graphics will be great on unreal but how can they screw up the physics so badly. It's also due to the horribly unresponsive animation engine.

Played Pes 13 for a while and then tried to download pes 21 from steam and give it a try again.

I just cant. The controls are sluggish and unresponsive, it's not fun at all. To me, Pes 21 looks only good on YouTube videos because the animations are nice and I'm not the one controlling the players. But then as I pick my keyboard to play the game myself, the delayed and unresponsive inputs is just not my thing.

Hopefully in newer games they will add option to:

1. Prioritize animations [resulting delayed inputs]
2. Classic responsive input [resulting in robotic animations like pes 13, 08, 06 etc]

Even if the responsive option is available in offline modes only, I'll still be happy enough.

There is no beta just yet. What you saw is probably the online test just for testing the online performance. Nothing more.
"Nothing more", "no beta".

Never mind that...
  • Konami themselves called it a beta
  • They released a survey, at least ten questions of which relate to online performance in no conceivable way
  • They released tips videos on how to use the new control scheme they devised (for something that apparently isn't a beta!)
  • They created new cutscenes before the match (for something that apparently isn't a beta!)
  • They created a new, slick, FIFA-style gameplan screen (for something that apparently isn't a beta!)
... but still, definitely not a beta guys, what an absurd suggestion!

I was thinking, the New Football Game beta used Unreal on PS4 and Xbox One right? Why would they switch back to the fox engine if they already have a build on unreal for the old gen?

They wouldn't. The idea that PS4/XB1 versions going forward would be Fox-based season updates was always pure speculation. It spread like wildfire as a rumour, of course, but it was baseless.

Baseless I wouldn't say. There is a Kei Masuda interview back from 2019 promo, that said :

Will the game engine change in the next versions of Pro Evolution Soccer? - Now we do not think about it. Our plans are focused on the current version of the game. Updating such technologies is a very risky step and before creating or releasing something, you need to assess all the risks. In the future, we plan to change the main engine, but this will not happen until the next generation of game consoles appears. On the current generation, the FOX engine will remain forever. We are not planning any changes.

Of course this was, two years ago, before Corona, before anything..

Yes, 3 years ago. . .of course he will say that in 2018 they will not change the engine, for the current generation at that time, for the next generation, of course they will have to think of something new.

But then why make an online test running on Unreal just to switch back to the FOX Engine? Isn't that a waste of time?
I truly believe KONAMI wanted to keep the FOX on the old gen consoles, but considering this interview happened 2 years ago perhaps they had a change of plans in the meantime?
I know nothing of how to make a game, but I think it's a waste of time to create a build on a new engine just for a beta and then go back to the old version

Three more days and then we can laugh :LMAO: and then cry realizing what has now Pes become

I'm a bit interested in how will they call it.

Eh, yes I know this was spoken of years ago, but I think it was always wise being very sceptical about drawing any conclusions from it. It was a Russian site, so presumably the interview was Japanese > Russian then again to English. So I dunno, it never meant much to me.

E.g., a nuance that could have been meant but which totally escaped this loop of translation: that "for the versions releasing only on this generation (PS4/XBOne), we will only use Fox".

And that's not mentioning the fact that this was in 2018, before we even had tentative specs for next-gen consoles, before they would have decided about whether to move to a new engine.. it just seemed like it was speculation even from Matsuda at that point.

I'll concede that if you put any stock in that one random interview and the potential translation problems it has, then the rumour wasn't entirely baseless. But I'll add that much of the rumour mill in recent times wasn't referencing that old interview, and instead consisted of just speculation.

Daily Star + Legit = hahahaha NO

Indeed. Would sooner get the news from the Beano.

For those of you outside of the UK, the Daily Star is arguably the nation's most ludicrous daily newspaper. This was today's front page, starring the catchphrase of a peripheral character in a sitcom that ended in the late 1970s:

That said, it tends to report actual news in a silly way which is probably more credible than pushing hateful agendas like some of the others. In the spirit of PES, let's call them the Sunne and the Maily Dail.
