EA SPORTS FC 24

As others have said, FUT is a fantasy mode - there are dead players, FFS - and I get that female representation is incredibly important.

I also get that if you make female players worse than male players, people won't use them (including girls/women)... and I feel shitty mentioning it, because no doubt it will be a siren to every misogynist in the land.

That said, it just doesn't sit right with me to fudge numbers. Even if you're not a sim-head, it just seems... really odd, and an immersion-killer, if a real-life version of The Hulk is pushed off the ball by someone who clearly doesn't have the same muscle mass. But that shows how little authenticity matters in this kind of product - and the same applies when comparing any two players, really.

Oh, and on the subject of authenticity... if FUT is a fantasy mode, including blatantly false representations - and FUT is your main selling point... Stop with the "realism" and "realistic gameplay" bullshit in your PR, and be honest about what you're making.

Considering how poor the game looks on the video posted, player stats is a detail.
I won't get it this year.
Good point well made.

i think we are all getting way too PC in here.
Women dont play against men.
the game that has a description as the most realistic representation of football should remember that.

There is a middle ground though between championing womens football and misogyny. I would be interested to know the percentage of players who actually want women in ultimate team and who would use them. I don't think that makes someone a misogynist for not wanting them in ultimate team.

I disagree but I'm not going to change your mind on that. Women's football exists, girls want to play football, they should see themselves in this game.

But when it was implemented previously, a lot of us chose to play with the women's teams over the men's because the gameplay was significantly different and enjoyable in a WHOLE new way, compared to the men's game.

This implementation is just, to me, so generic and poor. Like making Tranmere the same as Tottenham because they both play in white kits. So it doesn't feel right to me.

If you did that poll, and only asked boys and men, it'd be 1%. If you asked girls and women... They deserve to be in the game, and I can easily put myself in a girl's shoes going "wow, it's not just for boys". It's a good thing. It's not all about what we (you and I) want.

I just think it sucks that men's and women's football plays and feels the exact same way.

If I play with men's teams and go from Serie A teams to Premier League teams, and it's identical gameplay, it feels cheap, it feels dull, it feels like the devs don't care about the sport. The same applies to this.

That's because EA don't actually care.

You praise them and that's exactly what they want, their easy PR win has won you over. They've shown their true colours towards the women's game for the last ten + years and I'm meant to believe they suddenly care?

Just like the community work they do, it's all part of making people think they are a great company who care. The reality is it's about making the monster even bigger. Just my opinion 🙂

Also, there will be girls who don't want women in ultimate team, too.

Perhaps I'm naïve but from what little insider knowledge I have these days, I am inclined to believe that's absolutely not true (in this instance).

After all, if - as you say - barely anybody wants women's football in the game, what are they gaining from any investment into adding women's players, teams, leagues etc. in the first place? And do you really think girls refused to play it before, but will play it now? They aren't going to make extra money from it - only piss off their most toxic FUT players, who may threaten never to buy another pack again because "PC", and then relent after a week.

Call its implementation shoddy (I have) - in-fact, it was far more detailed, in terms of gameplay, in FIFA 16. That's what they should be criticised for (in my opinion). But I do genuinely, and it is just my opinion, think they care.

I only wish they cared about football fans who want to play a game that looks like, and feels like, football.

Changing the subject slightly, but not completely - because it's this nonsensicality (not a real word I know) that I'm getting at... Make this make sense:

Pepe getting faster and stronger the older he gets 🤣

Did anyone see that Orange ad, where they photoshopped the women's game footage to make it look like Mbappe, Griezmann etc. were scoring those goals? FUT 24 will be the real interpretation of this. But what's interesting is they had the women's and men's game feel different. So are female and male players on the same team still going to feel different? I am tempted to try FUT because of that Homare Sawa legend card, but I feel like that may not be a) enough to play this mode because b) it will be difficult to get probably.

Got to say... I admire what EA have done with women's football, and I love that full leagues are in the game - it's not a half-arsed thing, it's a commitment.

But this... I know why they're doing it (so that female players aren't a disadvantage, which wouldn't quite feel right) - but... Do they think people won't point out how odd this is, and/or be frustrated when the game's blurb screams "authenticity" at every opportunity?

I saw Traore walking next to me in Oxford Street, recently. I was too intimidated to ask for a selfie or whatever.

They’ve actually gone & removed the starting line up intros. At least include a toggle on/off or something. EA really confuse me.

This is from final game i believe. Looks ugly in terms of both gameplay and graphics:

watch 5:25 in slow motion, it looked off in real time but in slow motion you can see the striker has both feet together then does a two footed hop, then his left leg drags behind him so he can reach the ball and shoot, its laughable

What an absolute top to bottom mess.

Im just not watching football, I’m watching bots glide around creating opportunities to score non stop. We have the graphical and processing power but there is no desire to make something that actually screams real football.

Sad times

I've been playing FIFA since the very first one with fake player names like the superstar Brian Plank, but ye this guy with his unique beard and pointy hat deserves his earlier copy more than the OG. Ahhh, those lovely YouTube creators, awesome guys. Actually, I'd literally prefer to play that first FIFA right now.

I like how he says he got to play the alpha and beta versions (which shows EA let creators dictate everything) and how they boost player's playstyles like crazy pre-match and I like how he did playable highlights. That's a good snapshot of what this game is, overly boosted players and just highlights and action, ALWAYS.

I was a part of the beta, and the feedback forum had plenty of posts from people like you and I - along the lines of... "Crazy scorelines, no midfield resistance, pinball physics, every game is two passes, shoot, two passes, shoot - or if EVEN THAT'S too much effort for you, just run from box-to-box, cos nobody will stop you".

And I think that's the fourth year in a row I've seen identical feedback.

Why bother having a beta when you're only listening to the FUT YouTubers (who have zero interest in football) anyway.

Just boggles my mind that they keep making gameplay for them, yet are seemingly trying to make Career Mode more realistic. They go together like milk and vinegar.

I remain convinced that for as long as they only make one football game (and give FUT players the keys to development), it won't be playable if you actually watch and enjoy football.

I literally just saw a FUT pack opening clip from a creator. He is shouting every word like he's in a warzone, yet he's sat in his silent bedroom. He gets Messi and then reacts by shouting "I DON'T EVEN USE THIS ACCOUNT...I DON'T EVEN USE THIS ACCOUNT. I JUST THOUGHT I'D OPEN SOME PACKS FOR CONTENT..."

I suppose one way of looking at this is a bit like Tekken, Women are as strong as men in the interest of balance & variety. While Tekken isn't a combat simulator, it is realistic looking in some areas such as certain move animations, art style and I guess the game's logic of fighters can't jump 10 feet in the air as they can in Street Fighter as well as the emphasis of timing attacks and blocks compared to other fighting games also.

So perhaps FIFA/FC & Tekken might be a good comparison in that they should never be treated as realistic simulations of their genres but rather arcade games that have realistic elements but predominantly less serious fantasy ones also in the interest of fun.

I agree it's misleading for this to be marketed as the most realistic football game when it's not a fact. But I think accepting FC24 for what it is, a casual football game with some realistic-looking elements is the most pragmatic attitude we can take towards this franchise rather than expecting something from it that we will never receive.

There is an influencer formula and "content creator" blueprint that every one of these clones unoriginally follows.

Over-exaggerated shouty excitement at the most routine of things, clasping on to viewer retention with ADHD triggering cuts and zooms and more juvenile loud noises, pretending we're all a team by referring to yourself as "We" instead of I, treating your viewers like commodities who exist solely as view metrics rather than a community, flaunting your wealth and humble bragging about the 50 packs of FUT cards worth nearly a tenner each when a lot of your young viewers will be lucky to afford one pack a week if they're fortunate.

It's gross and really makes my dick fall off.

There will be NOT ONE single journalist that points out in their review that this looks nothing like football, I’m guessing.

Not one who will say, “Hey EA, All that stuff you put out about this game being the most realistic ever, well let’s compare the gameplay from EA FC 24 to FIFA 19. Just watch them and tell me what the hell you’re talking about.”

Not one journalist will do this.
