Probably a more reliable rumour than most, this one......

Chelsea have tabled an offer for Samuel Eto'o
Date: 12/12/2003

We revealed yesterday that Chelsea were stepping up their interest in Mallorca's Cameroon International striker, Samuel Eto'o. Today, that interest was confirmed when Eto's agent Willie McKay stating that an offer has been tabled. "The only offer from an English club for Eto'o is from Chelsea".

Eto'o's buy-out clause is €24 million - of which, if a sale did go through, half will go to Real Madrid under the clauses of Eto'o's sale to Mallorca, by which Madrid still own half of Eto'o's rights. That said, since Mallorca have already more or less accepted that Eto'o will be leaving, they are naturally keen to make the most of his sale. Mallorca are apparently keen to ensure that they receive €30 million for Eto'o, which obviously limits seriously the number of possible buyers. Although Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester have been keen on him in the past, this price tag might well eliminate Arsenal from the running.

Mallorca's President, Mateu Alemany, has already admitted that Eto'o is a player of such quality despite his 22 years of age that he will leave for a better club than the somewhat modes Balearic side. He has also said that such a departure will take place sooner rather than later, even if Eto'o has another 3 years on his contract.

Alemany made this statement in public yesterday, when he said that "Eto'o's time at Mallorca is coming to an end. He's been 5 seasons here, but he himself has realised that his quality is such that he should go to one of the 5 biggest clubs in the world. We have done all that we can, risky efforts to try to persuade him to continue to play at Mallorca. It wasn't an indulgence - Eto'o is the most important player to have passed through our club". Strong words.

Having been the subject, already, of a number of offers, Eto'o is now planning to clear out his locker at the Son Moix. If he does leave, however, it will be at the end of this season. A meeting took place on Tuesday between Eto'o, Alemany and the coach, Luis Aragones, in which Mallorca obtained from Eto'o a commitment to stay until the end of the season as Mallorca will refuse to negotiate any transfer during the forthcoming winter transfer window. However, this meeting was also the moment when it was accepted that Eto'o will leave - on his side, Eto'o feels aggrieved that, having been persuaded not to take up some of the offers that were dangled in front of him over the summer, he hasn't been given some of the financial compensation that Mallorca promised.

Alemany, however, is sure that Eto'o will go to a big club. "Valencia [who have been interested in the past] was not the club for Samuel." Chelsea is clearly one of the possible destinations - they were already interested over the summer, and are now back on his case. Alemany has asked, though, that if there is an interest, the suitor club should provide some concrete figures.

Eto'o himself has remained rather schtum about all this. Asked about the rumours that have already placed him at an English club, he replied that "I have nothing to say about that".

Ey T let me tell you that the VB Stuggart fans are funny as f*ck, you've gotta see it to believe it mate, I missed bits of the match laughing at them, they are a decent team granted but when a crowd has to keep itself happy instead of enjoying the football it shows what sort of team they are, if they go in front they will be a bitch to break but if you score one, two, they will crumble.

Gonna be a good season this, its shaping up nicely for everyone involved.....

Damn, 90th min own goal. Does it come any crueler! Still, if the boy Terry scores the winning goal in a CL match (preferably the final ;) ) or later in the Prem, it's all good. It's just how it goes. You have to be able to accept things like this.

.....and Kensh|n, don't be 13 year old baby. Gloating is sad and unwelcome here! Do it in the Utd thread, or otherwise you can just F*ck off.

Yeah right, because Chelsea are always in first spot aren't they. Second is truly awful! Listen don't be so sad. Of course i don't mind being second, it's only December. There's still time to go. Now kindly visit the Man Ure thread unless you have something productive to add.

I just said man utd is the 1st atm, why are you so mad ?

Btw, chelsea will be 3rd if arsenal wins the game tomorrow

what about the news that chelsea have tabled a 40 million offer for thierry henry!! looks like roman's determined to buy the title, expect offers for loads of their rivals main players in january, Try building a team and winning it through your own efforts, for f's sake this is getting ridiculous.

ooooooh boy, after all that hype with glen johnson picking up a CL gol (was it?) and being possibly named up to sven gorens squad, he lets kevin davies have too good a time beating on the outside, giving davies all the time in the world to do something with the ball, and in the unfortunate case, he banked it off of terry for the OG...

johnsons fault! :(

Not that i want to dwell on it much as this is a Chelsea thread, but Henry is a 100% product of Arsene Wenger. He converted him into a striker, and he did well. As for the Henry bid thing. Come on, grow up. He's not going to budge, and Arsenal won't sell. Why do some people work themselves up over it? Chelsea have spent the big money already. Any other purchases will be understated and tactful. Stop the sour grapes.

The only reason this has happened is to take the gloss away from Chelsea's loss to bolton, so we get more transfer nonsense ahead of the important stuff - what happens on the pitch. Supreme timing from whoever is the PR exec at Chelsea.

Don't worry too much about the Bolton defeat guys...Arsenal and Manchester United will loose point s aswell...
IMHO there are two crucial periods in the premiership: round boxing day and the last weeks...if Chelsea is still in the race in february, they wil go all the way...logically speaking, being a "new team" they should only get better...

Oh and off topic: I'm glad Newcastle is in the top five...that's were they belong.

Um, this is a Chelsea forum  There's a clue. Now can we stop childish comments, and can all Man Utd fans go away please, unless you have something constructive to add. Personally, you wouldn't catch me in the Man Utd thread. ;)

What Ho, tout le monde!

Nice to see Vannizzle pop in a few days ago. Hope you're keeping well?

So we tasted defeat on Saturday :l - the first home game I've missed this season and ya see what happens! Just one of those days, I guess. It's the reason football is unpredictable, so long may it last.

Villa on Wednesday - big game. Hopefully we'll see a reaction out of them.
