I kind of agree with Vanizzle - not many are going to have sympathy with a moneybags team....besides you've got more than enough players - it must be like Christmas everyday with the bottomless wallet-o-vich.

We normally pay huge prices for players, but i can live without him and the 32m for a season.

I don't think they're asking for any sympathy. It's quite clearly a pisstake, and they ought to just close the case. Sorry Essien. I'm sure he'll say he'd love to play/make his once in a lifetime move somewhere else quite soon, knowing footballers ;)
If Chelsea are serious about not shelling out for players anymore, they ought to demonstrate it now.

Surely you dont think players are fickle!

Theres not much Chelsea can do, people know they have the money so its gonna come down to how much chelsea want the player, or in some cases if the player makes his position untenable, Essien tried that but his club have been too stubborn IMO.

Thats true. If Chelsea desperately need him, they'll just pay the £30million they're asking for.
Its not like Chelsea cant afford it.

Yeah but as Prof said if they want to stop clubs holding them to ransom then paying what Lyon are asking for is not gonna help stop the trend.

Thats true too. But then that means that Chelsea will have to go through a period, maybe 1-2 years where they cant get any big signings to show that they arent here to throw money around.

Can Chelsea do that?

Well to be fair, they bought SWP for 21 mil, that's not exactly 'market value'. I mean he's good, and young, but worth more than say, RVN (19) or Owen (ok with trade but still) or Vieira? Chelsea have created their own prices, and they have to deal with it.

From their point of view, they were prepared to offer what, 27 mil already? Whats another 5 really?

I think Mourhino said that he plans to have a complete squad by that time and wont have to buy players....

Thats not realstic though with players getting an injured..

But a noble idea though.

I think once Mourinho has HIS squad. He will do very little buying/selling - and goodbye big money spending.

You have to remember that players get old or sometimes injured so "HIS" squad will never be perfect.

A real squad sees players coming in and players going out all the time but with the base staying the same.

If Essien was so serious about moving instead of shooting his mouth in the media every 5 mins why doesnt he hand in a official transfer request!?

José Mourinho told a press conference in New Jersey today, Wednesday, why he signed Shaun Wright-Phillips, and the player warned his colleagues that a winner had arrived — in computer football!

The £21m man was full of happiness about his move and the prospects it offered him.

“It was the chance of a lifetime and not to have come to a club like Chelsea would have been silly. I can challenge for every trophy in England.”

Challenged on whether or not he’d gain a place in the team to achieve that, he countered: “That’s down to my football, I’ll let my football do the talking.”

Challenged as to why he was willing for Chelsea to play so much for the player, José explained: “The English market is crazy, that’s why it’s so difficult to buy English players from English clubs. He was £21m because of what he did last season for his club and for his country.”

At Manchester City Shaun mostly played wide in a midfield four. At Chelsea it will be in an attacking three. José talked about the tactics.

“I like my wingers to play with a lot of freedom, in fact we have just finished a meeting where I was speaking about some tactical situations from the last game against Benfica, and I was speaking to Duff, Cole and Robben, so at the same time I was speaking to Shaun, and he could understand I like to give them freedom, but at the same time there are certain principles of our play that you cannot lose. But I think he is a very intelligent payer and he can adapt.

“He’s very, very good but he has to get better, he’s too young not to get better. Arriving in such a good group of players, the conditions are here to get better, and I would be disappointed also with myself if in a few years he is not better.

“He can be more a pure winger than our other players are, but I know he can also play from inside, and that is a player completely adapted to the style we play. He’s fast, he’s creative, he has movement, he has dynamic, he can play on the right, he can play on the left, he can play wide, he can play inside.”

Discussions inevitably got to his England prospects and the World Cup, so José laid his feelings on the line. “I told the players on the first day that all through the season they will have a lot of questions about the World Cup, and I told them if they think too much about the World Cup they are in danger because they don’t play for Chelsea.”

More important to Shaun right now was the computer football that John Terry, Wayne Bridge, Glen Johnson and Joe Cole had planned for him. It was supposed to happen last night but had been a disaster.

“We didn’t even get an adapter to be honest with you,” Shaun lamented, but he was happy to stand up to his new colleagues’ taunts about his confidence. “I can bat as well as talk, don’t worry about that!” he promised.

Games are due to start in the next 24 hours. Training starts sooner.

What was that all about?

oh man, do i ever miss Mourinho, :lmao: , he looks different, much tanner, looks like hes got a belly in that pic, probably from all the drinking celebrating the trophies.

He gave us a very memorable season, hopefully this upcoming season will be even better.

SWP will fit in perfectly. He looks good in Chelsea's colours.

Essien saga still drags on, he should go to Arsenal or something, the Chelsea bus is full.
I think Antonio Mavuba(Bordeaux) would be a better signing, he is more similar to Makelele than Essien.

less than 1 month till kickoff, can hardly wait.

I would not agree if Chelsea going to pay 32m to sign Essien. Let's talk that again when he meet Gerrard's standard & performance.

Btw, i think we have a very good squad in the coming season except Drogba. He need to prove himself asap rather than talking something about how he make Lampard shine. What a BS.

MILAN: Eleftheropoulos; Cafu, Nesta, Stam, Kaladze; Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf; Rui Costa, Serginho; Vieri.

CHELSEA: Cudicini; Gallas, Carvalho, Ferreira, Geremi; Robben, Lampard, Makelele, Duff; Crespo, Gudjohnsen.

So both were pretty tough sides with Chelsea being very close to their first team.

Were Chelsea using a 4-4-2?
