Nicky, obviously this is a long term investiment.

What Sulph said b4 was correct. They plan to have the club financialy stable, meaning no help from Roman, in a few years... maybe around 2010.

Fuck me I understand what he said. I work in the wonderful world of finance myself. However Kenyon said that Chelsea wouldn't be have big summer spend ups anymore to make that goal realistic and this summer you have spent £12 million on a left back!

So what i'm saying is that I don't think he will be able to increase the turnover at the club that much in the next 5 years whilst at the same time continuing to pay over the odds for players and their wages.

Are we all understanding my point now?

Actually Del Horno was £8 million. Chelsea have also made £6.5million from Parker, £3 million from Forssell and £5.3 million from Kezman. So the left back is payed for

And how do you pay for the £200+million spent on players? Sell the stadium?

And to add to what Nickybaker said, even though the team is apparently gonna be financially stable in about half a decade (who the hell wants to wait that long?), Chelsea are no longer gonna be able to spend the crazy money they spend on players. The fact is no matter how stable you are, no football club could ever spend £200million on players and it'll never happen again.
And what Chelsea are aiming to do is become Manchester United which means being able to generate money from different forms of marketing so that the extra money gained can run Chelsea without the help of Abramovich.
So to sum it up, Chelsea in 5 years time will become what Man Utd are today.
But what if all doesnt go to plan? What if Chelsea cant get the players to start that cycle of success? What if Chelsea cant get the right players to market their brand overseas? What if they dont meet their target of where they want to be by 2010? 2 Thing will happen. Either Abramovich will have to dig deep into his money bag and throw more money aroound or he's gonna finally realise that he could just bought a copy of Football Manager for under £30 and done it all on his PC.
Now seeing that the big players are snubbing Chelsea and that fact that they dont have any big media loving player like Beckham (Mourinho is the only one in the media) and also the fact that Chelsea dont have a scouting system as good as Arsenal and Man Utd's, it makes you wonder where they will actually start making their money from.
From what I hear, the reason why Chelsea always target Man Utd's targets is because Kenyon knows who we've been scouting cuz he was very close with Sir Alex at Man Utd. Now that we have the Glazers in charge, we're gonna be much harder to predict in what we do.

To cut a long story short, Chelsea only CLAIM they will be ssecure by 2010 but who knows what the future holds.

Yeah anything can happen, i mean we all saw what happened to leeds.

And the big players would snub United too, for the 50th time.

And for the 50th time, you dont know if those players would snub us until they actually do.
Rooney snubbed Chelsea and joined Man Utd so he can do it, why cant others.

He was not at a big club before he came. So your saying Shev, Joa, Robin, all wanna go to Man U? :p

Cmon Rune you cant say anything on th future finaces of Chelsea when the stabilty and finances of your club are all over the place! I dont think Rooney snubbed Chelsea Im sure that summer Morinho came out a few times and ruled Chelsea out of going in for him!

Yeah, and Rune also says Chelsea will fail just because Sheva, Gila, Robinho etc snubbed us. What he does not realise is that they would snub Man U too! Its nothing against Chelsea!

well things seem to be quiet for now!

I'm going on vacation today, and probably won't touch a computer for two weeks. And even before leving I'm gonna enjoy Felix Da Housecat! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I don't want to return here and have to read trough 15 pages about "HE WOULD SNUB X, HE WOULD I TELL YOU!"

Hope that when i'm back, chelsea will be having a new midfielder.

Hey, pretty cool that chelsea is coming sunday to play against benfica! :)

Chelsea sign Lassana Diarra from Le Havre

The 20-year-old is to clinch a dream switch to Stamford Bridge and become the second of Jose Mourinho's summer buy.

Le Havre were at pains to point out that Chelsea acted very professionally throughout the negotiations and they are pleased that Diarra is joining the Premiership champions as it represents such a great opportunity for the player.

Diarra played for France in the summer Under-20 tournament against England in Toulon and talks have been continuing for some time between the two clubs.

The Paris-born youngster can also play in defence and has previously attracted interest from Nantes.

No transfer fee has yet been disclosed but it is claimed that Mourinho was personally impressed with the Le Havre starlet and moved to add him to his squad ahead of the new season, when Chelsea will defend the Premiership title.

Even though Diarra has been playing at Ligue 2 level, he is highly regarded within France and is viewed as the next Claude Makelele.

I Think that this whole dispute between sulph and rune is quite entertaining, so why not give it its own thread....

Heres some ideas for a title,

Sulph vs Rune : The Great Chelsea Debate.
Sulph Vs Rune with Special Guest Referee Nickybaker (see the special guest referee is always someone involved with it, so says the wwf!)
Sulph Vs Rune : When Continents Collide!

But my personal favourite, Sulph vs Rune: This time, its PERSONAL!

That way, we can all get back to discussin chelsea, and not slatin it, or arguing about what people have said.......hows that sound?

yup the actual bid you made was 20m and it was rejected!

"Manchester City Football Club can confirm that we have received a bid from Chelsea for Shaun Wright-Phillips which has been immediately rejected," read a statement from City.

"We have always stressed that we want Shaun to stay at Manchester City and Shaun himself has always been adamant that he is happy here as the club continue to build on the excellent progress made under the leadership of Stuart Pearce.

"We do not encourage any bids for Shaun and both the club and the player remain firmly focused on our preparations for the new season."
Best thing theyve done all summer!

I cant see how Chelsea need SWP

Where would he play ? As one of the 3 centre midfielders or either one of the 2 players behind the striker ?

Plus I dont think hes better than Duff or Robben at the minuet so I reckon he'll find it hard to get in, If Chelsea do actually get it could be a waste of a good player

So do i ( and no Sulph he hasnt snubbed you! :) )Ive been worried all summer with our lack of transfer activity i thought the board were waiting for a bid and then we would delve in, but as Sulph said there strong words hopefully they mean them! and arn't pushing for a higher bid

I cant see man city holding out for much longer would be crazy to let that kind of money slip away , they could get 2 players of a similer ability for £20Mil , Yea I agree he is a gr8 promising player but he isnt going to make Man City a Uefa cup side on his own so it should be seen as good buisness and Man CIty should have a healthy looking bank balance along with a few other English Clubs thanks to The Russian with far too much money to know what to do with . One thing tho its very hard to put a proper value on a player especially when he hasnt actually achieved anything yet , except he plays for the oil rich side of Chealsea.

20m wouldnt go anywhere near putting us in the black if we sold him Pearce would be lucky to get 10m to spend on players! Chelsea are saying they are continuing to negotiate! a couple of mates are up watching city tonight against Tranmere swp is supposed to be playing, Im betting if he plays tonight he stays if not..........

Ok fair enough u wouldnt get to spend it all but u dont want a situation where he goes in a few seasons for a lot less or even a free , or even worse lets remember this guy is still nowhere near the finished article so u dont know what could happen to him remember Lee Sharpe

I think SWP is a fantastic player, but Chelsea don't need another wide midfielder, unless they start selling. They've already got Cole, Duff and Robben on the books, and SWP or Cole aren't likely to get many games at this rate. I do think that Chelsea should instead focus on a classy midfielder to complement Lampard and Makelele. Tiago did not do badly last season, nor did Gudjohnsen, but that's arguably the only 'weak' area left in the Chelsea team, and that's not even close to weak, it's more world class.

The financial stability ISNT all over the place. We're a private company now so you or anyone else wont know what the financial situation is really like at Man Utd. As far as we know, we might have everything under control which BTW I think we do cuz everyone involved with Man Utd like the manager and the rest of the staff believe that they're better off with the takeover.

Are you saying that Real Betis and Santos are such great big teams that the players wouldnt move to Chelsea from them?

And the you still havent replied to my first post where I covered all the points you made. For the past two days, you've avoided me everytime I made that post. So since you havent replied to it, it means you've lost this arguement. Go back and read that post. When you have a reply to it, post that here but until then, dont bother having a go at me cuz I have all my answers in that post.
I'm not gonna repost it all here cuz I've already done that about 3 times and its just flooding the place.
