They had an awful lot of teams in the CL finals for the "stingiest league in Europe."

FFS I said stingiest, as in stingy, that means tight where I come from, Seria A must be one of the hardest leagues to score in because they put so much into defences. So for a striker to score 18 goals in such a league is some achievement. I was giving the fella credit you dumb fook, learn to read before you post.

I was defending Serie A, you made a derogatory remark by saying it was a "stingy" league. Surely good defence should be seen as a positive attribute, and not something that you would mock. Stingy does indeed mean "tight," but in a financial sense. So its wrong to use it in reference to a defensive system.

The Italians pride themselves on tight defences, you only have to look at The CL final to see that. Every striker talks/dreams of playing in Italy for the very reasons I mentioned, if they can do it there, they can do it anywhere. So how is this derogatory :roll: ??

So lets go back to my original statement then. If he can score 18 in that league who knows how many he'll score in The Prem.......

Again in what way is this derogatory.

If your whole point of these posts has been because I used the word "stingy" you are a very sad lad. It might not have been used in the 100% correct context but I'll bet you anything that most normal people fully understood what I mean, and if they had any sense or are "intelligent" they wouldve asked what I meant rather than assuming.

No if we can please get back on topic, Chelsea haven't named an interest in a new midfielder, as far as i know. The latest speculation was surrounding Hernen Crespo.

Its OK Jooste, we've had it out now. In fact Vz, i think you were my first argument on these boards, so well done. I don't normally like to argue, as it's often pointless. I don't dislike you by the way, but you ought chill on calling peoples names, some people on these boards might not be able to take it. :) Plus if both parties start, it makes for a bad thread.

I knew he would come good this season, its his third in The Prem so there can be no excuses this year, I saw him do some brilliant things in his two years at OT but no-one (even some United fans) would listen, He is a genuine World Class midfielder and I hope he plays a blinder this season.

Fair enough he played awful in a few games, lfc away his first season, the semi final at Leverkusen and his first derby to name a few but we cant be bitter, he didnt do to bad for us, 2 seasons one winners medal. I hope he proves everyone wrong, but he wont be getting another winners medal ;)
 
Nutmeg, what about Zenden, Bogarde, Melchiot? They won't get many chances this season i assume. Well, maybe Melchiot will, but the other 2 won't play a lot.
Do you think Zenden will go back to Holland? He's linked here with Ajax and PSV. What does the English press say?

I read Charlton were interested in Zenden too. Bogarde missed the boat ages ago, he won't get a game unless there's a serious defensive injury, even young Huth is above him in the pecking order. Melchiot will get games, but you can see he's worried about Johnson. You could see it on his face at the Zilina game.

Is it true that Bogarde (who I used to think was a good player) doesnt even live in England he just comes over to train gets his £40K a week and flies back to Holland. I mean good work if you can get it but if this is true, for a proffesional footballer that is disgraceful, I have more respect for a player who is prepared to take less money for first team football....
 
I used to think he was a good defender at Barcelona. I think we only bought him as a backup cover for Lebouef and Desailly. Should have just got him on loan. He's a waste of space and cash really. We've got more promising young defenders than him.
 
I also heard something like that Vann. Don't know about the flights, but he gets a massive amount of money for training, and that's training only!!
€ 57.000 a week! That's sick.

I hope Zenden signs for Ajax, we need some experience.
