Which Goalies in the PL are better than Cech and Cudicini ? Only ones who I think come close are Robinson, maybe Kirkland... but the fact Chelsea have conceeded only 6 goals which season suggests to me at least that no other club has a better keeper. Cech has played most matches this season, but in the ones Cudicini's played in he's looked on top form - he was the best keeper in the league last season, its no coincidence that Chelsea's form dipped when he was injured and Sullivan and Ambrosio stepped in.

Shearer was a great striker but he’s just lost an edge of pace, he's still a good striker but passed his peak and I'd rate a fair few other Premier League strikers ahead of him (eg Defoé, Baros). Henry is probably the best striker in the league, and probably still will be for the forseeable future. Van Nistelrooy's a good striker, don’t really rate Saha that much - hard to see him starting that many games anyway. Kluivert again is a good striker but I think Drogba will end up being a better overall striker, coz of his injury he's only played a handful of games. But if you look at his performances for OM last season you'll see he was a top class striker. Even in the few games he's played for Chelsea he looked quality. The PSG match in the Parc Des Princes springs to mind where he scored with a decent strike from the edge of the box in just at the end of the 1st half and a neat free kick in the 2nd half. He'd scored a few decent headers too, one v Porto at home and also at Palace.

Well in theory any team could beat them, but in the cold light of day Chelsea have already seen off Man Utd this season so I don’t think they'll have any problems if they face them again, esp. if Utd don’t improve their current away form in Europe. Chelsea beat a more in form Arsenal team in last years CL and now Arsenal seem to going off the boil a bit these last few games, picking up suspensions and showing signs of fatigue etc. Barca and Juve are undoubtedly big threats and have great squads, I could see them - particularly Juve with their tight defence beating Chelsea. Milan and Bayern might pose a threat but to be honest I expect the current Chelsea side to beat them.
you might think this is biased but Brad Freidel is still a world class keeper, his team just sucks, look at chelsea's defense, its amazing, so i dont know how many of those clean sheets you can attest to the keepers, your also forgetting about Van Der Sar, and Jaskelianiean(sp?), looking at drogba for OM is on thing, but this inst french league 1. its the premieship and the CL very different levels of competetion, i certainly think drogba has the talent to be one of the best, but we will have to see. United lost 1-0 to chelsea WITHOUT Rio, Ruud, Rooney, and I belive Saha, your talking three of United's best players... so that win to me is not a true test of chelsea has, i belive they have all the potential in the world to win hardware but lets see it first....

Re: Chelsea FC thread (5 points clear)

The defenders played a bigger part in keeping the great defensive record. Chelsea could have had a weaker keeper and they probably still would have conceeded the same amount of goals. Cech and Cudicini are good but I wouldn't say they're any greater than Howard and Carroll (except for the rare blunders that our keepers have made this season).

Re: Chelsea FC thread (5 points clear)

I've recorded the C. Cup game with Fulham and watched that last night, I think Drogba still not fit and might be need 3 or more games to get fit. But glad to see our defence are great!!

Btw, what comes to my brain when I watch it is, I think Huth might will be transfer to other club in January or in summer. And I think Joe Cole still havent improve much, he cant help the squad defence.

I have to agree - Chelsea have to world class `keepers. I would LOVE it if we brought Cudicini to Old Trafford!

Re: Chelsea FC thread (5 points clear)

I dont think Cudicini will leave us soon, sorry Man. Utd and Arsenal.

I think Kezman will be in the starting line-up tonight. He need to play more games and score for confidence.

Here is my choice:

--------------------Cudicini---------------------
G. Johnson-----Gallas---Terry-----Babayaro
---------------------Parker---------------------
---------Smertin--------------Tiago-----------
---J. Cole-----------------------------Bridge--
-------------------Kezman---------------------

Just give the boys more chance to play and improve.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (5 points clear)

Got to agree with csaunders - Brad Friedel for me is the best keeper in the league. It's easy being a keeper with a rock solid defence. His is crap (slowly getting better now) so he's had a lot of practice. Personally I also like Niemi - solid! Chris Kirkland needs a bit more experience looking at the free kick he let in this week....

Having said all that, Chelsea have great keepers too (who are probably a bit bored for 89 mins).

Re: Chelsea FC thread (5 points clear)

I think Cudicini needs to up his confidence. The last time he played he seemed shaky... not the same GK he was a few years ago.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

I think you lot could have won against the goons.Gallas exploited Lauren well but cant cross for shite! What the hell was Drogba doin when he came on? All the talk that he was the closest player that can be compared to Henry was pure rubbish...He is no where near the frenchman.Putting Kezman on would be the better option...but great game nonetheless.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

I agree, Drogba was pants when he came on. He didn't work hard enough. That performance won't help him get a starting place. But he will come good, i refuse to write him off. Bridge should have been on from the start too. Mourinho chose Gallas for his pace only. Funny really, as he bitched at Ranieri for playing him in that position.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

I am gettin continually pissed right off with the lack of Wayne Bridge in the side!! grrrrr

He is a better full back than Gallas and i think he should play there more regularly. I know he has to keep everyone happy, but Terry is the dogs and will not be dislodged. So it has to be rotated between Billy G and Ricardo "the pace" Carvalho!

Also, just want to say Robben = Ledgend!!!!

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Parker has been ruled out for THREE MONTHS with a broken foot. Seems a shame as the lad was just beginning to get some playing time!

Re: Chelsea FC thread

I read on the paper today stated that Jaquin of Real betis is on his way to Chelsea soon.men his service will probably makes Chelsea's 4-0s to 6-0s.

when was that? coz when he played against us at St. James' Park in the Carling Cup he was superb

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Just finished first half, I prefer move P. Ferraria back to right and replace G. Johnson by Bridge at left, and I think Drogba still not FIT... too bad. At this moment, I think GudJohnsen is a better choice.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Bit worried about tomorrow's game at Liverpool. I think they may just nick some points. I think we can just about fill the bench :eh: And surely with Carvalho still injured he'll play Gallas as CB with Bridge on the left. Hopefully we can keep the gap at 5 points though :-k

Re: Chelsea FC thread

WOW. What a performance. Its goals that win games. Joe Cole. 4 Goals. Coming off the bench 4 times. As an all round team performance, we played very very well. We worked very hard. Im still unsure about Tiago and Glen Johnson. Gallas today, was absolutely brilliant. I was very impressed. Its good to have that kind of depth in the squad. Drogbaa i feel pretty bad for, hopefully after he gets some starts he will be back to his scoring ways. Gudjohnsens performancee was also a little dissappointing today. However, as a team we are still going strong at first. Havent conceded a goal since Henrys cheap shit free kick back on December 12th. Brilliant. My comments on the penalty appeal, it was a penalty, even though Tiago looked as if he was pushed, but hey the ref didnt see it, and thats part of football.
Im also a big fan of Mourinhos footballing policy. A strong defence makes a strong team. Makes a lotta sense to me. What a way to start 2005. A very happy new year to all the chelsea supporters and everyone at chelsea football club.

My Player Ratings.
Cech - 8 - Wasnt troubled that much, but when the shots/headers came in, he was behind them.
Ferriera - 7 Solidd, a bit sloppy, but still worked very hard.
Terry - 8 - Another game for Chelsea gone without conceding.
Gallas - 9 - MOTM Withstood all pressure and was absolutely brilliant.
Johnson - 6 - Sloppy and was booked with a terrible tackle. Cant wait till Bridge gets back.
Tiago - 6 - Not impressed again, lost the ball a lot and wasted a few chances when he could have played the ball or taken shots.
Lampard - 7 - A lot of important challenges and hard work put in by Franky however was booked and broke Alonsos ankle.
Duff - 7 - Looked a threat, but made little impact.
Robben - 6 - Had one excellent chance. Probably the best of the game. But wasted it when Gudjohnsen was in open space at the far post.
Makelele - 7 - Hard working and solid.
Gudjohnsen - 6 - Dissappointing, no actual goal scoring chances.
Drogba - 6 - Didnt get a decent chance in.
Joe Cole - 8 - Impact player, the 4th time this season hes come of the bench and scored.
Kezman - 6 - Crossed a ball in and thats about it, didnt have enough time to actually make an impact.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Exactly, this shows the difference mourinho has had on our team. Last season we would have drawn or maybe lost that and the game against portsmouth, but we went on to win bouth out of nothin and with pretty much the same team which has played in the past two weeks four games. These are very very good times for chelsea - THANKYOU MOURINHO!!

Re: Chelsea FC thread

It seems Jarosik will join our team soon. Anyone know is he good or not?

Re: Chelsea FC thread

From soccernet:

Rocastle returns to Stamford Bridge

Midfielder Craig Rocastle has returned to Chelsea from Hibernian in a bid to prove himself at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old joined the Easter Road club in the summer on a six-month loan deal under Hibs boss Tony Mowbray.

But, after impressing with the Edinburgh club in his short spell, the player is determined to make his mark with the Premiership leaders after Jose Mourinho recalled him as cover.

Rocastle said: 'Chelsea have asked me to come back down and train with them because they have got a few injuries at the moment.

'And if there's any chance for me to play in the Chelsea first team then I don't think anybody could begrudge me that.

'Obviously I want to try again with Chelsea but if it does not work out I would never say I wouldn't come back to Hibs.

'I got on very well with the manager, the rest of the players and the fans there and I enjoyed my time in the SPL.'

Who is this guy??

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Rocastle was signed on a free transfer from Gravesend & Northfleet in the summer of 2003. He appeared on the bench for the first time at the beginning of February 2004 as an unused substitute in the home win over Charlton Athletic.
He was then loaned to Barnsley a week later and made his professional debut in a 1-0 defeat at Wrexham. He struggled to make an impression at Oakwell and returned after one month.
He then joined Lincoln City on loan on transfer deadline day in March 2004, appearing twice as a substitute.
Another loan spell came on transfer deadline day in August 2004, north of the border in the Scottish Premier League with Hibernian.
I'm glad Jose has dedcided to recall players. Instead of complaining about players not being fit, he should use the reserves like other clubs do. Nuno Morais in defence for example. Oliveira as an attacking option etc etc.

Jarosik could prove a useful loan as cover for the centre of midfield. I think he's equally adept at attacking and defending. Possibly a hard worker too, one hopes. He's quite tall as well, which might help.
