So first game of the season kicks off in 90 mins and no posts about the opening day!? dissappointing!

My predicted/hopeful startin lineup...

-------------------------Cech----------------------------
Ferreira-------Terry----------Gallas--------Bridge-------
-------------------------Maka-----------------------------
------Geremi-----------------------------Duff------------
-----------------------Lampard----------------------------
------------------------------Kezman----------------------
-----------------Drogba-------------------------------------

The cech situ is jus cos i think mourinho will prefer him on his form over pre season, and i would prefer to see kezman start with drogba as i think he is the biggest goal threat we have. Kezman and drogba would be, IMO, the best partnership in the premiership, with great quality in guddy n mutu to fill in for injurys. I think 3/2-1 chelsea. Id prefer 3-0 tho!

maybe carvalho will start, but not sure how is form is right now, has he started the season later!

well 25 mins remaining to find out! :D cya!

/me as gonne to watch Chelsea . Man Utd

possible outcome - 2-1 to chelsea! 8)

It wasn't pretty, our ball retention was rubbish, but job done.
Phew, it was a tough one to start with.
It was a surprise to see Smertin starting on the left side of the diamond, but to his credit he played quite well. I think Mourinho got the general balance right for the game, but we really need to work on our possession. :l

glad that mourinho didn't hear you :D
go eidur 8)

yeah is duff injured? quite unbelievable he wasnt playing. i mean, smertins not too bad and all but apart from the goal and some last minute chances when man u piled forward, there was not a sign of any creativity in midfield. heres hoping mourinho doesnt turn them into liverpool!

Smertin was playing good!! Imo, he's better than Lampard in that game.

And I'll go for Drogba and Kezman for the next game.

Duff was fit and well in the Zaragoza match which he started. I don't think Mourinho wanted to use him as a tactic if you know what i mean. It was a very defensive midfield really, and i think it just about worked for us. Smertin appears to have a good work rate.

I don't think you can read much into that performance - we looked nothing like the team that has shaped up in pre-season. With no Cole, Robben or Duff, a middle comprised off defensive midfielders was hardly going to set the pulse racing! We didn't ever look in any danger though, even though the ref had a red shirt on under his black one.

3 points and hopefully a few players back for Brum.

Duff was only fit enough to play 45 minutes of what was a pretty tepid friendly though - I'm certain José isn't going to rush him back for competitive football. Hopefully he will make an appearance on Saturday.

If Im Jose, I'll use Robben instead of Duff. I think Robben can give the squad more energy and aggressive.

Dont get me wrong, I think Duff is good and he did good in the last season. I just think Robben is better.

Robben is still very young and has a lot to learn, DUff on the other hand has played in the premiership, it has to be rotation for me. For this season, 75% duff and 25% robben.

robben has wonderful skills, he's a smooth player... a pleasure for your eyes...
but IMO is duff who can give more energy and aggressiveness

and, 'bout refs... well, they have "fly emirates" on their sleeve :D

Hey dude,I thought about that also! Maybe Mr Roman has got them too??..Its just unproffessional in my eyes to have sponsors for refs,it dont look right.

definately agree with T butcher, the ref was shite!! He blatantly loved man u. Some of the decisions i was fumin! How could he give a free kick against eidur for backin in? He didnt no where to look!

And they show unofficial sponsor through their refereering (eg. AC Milan).
