You mean fights where there is a huge size disparity in weight, height, arm length and the smaller guy in every way in only his 3rd ever heavyweight fight comes up with the tactics, determination and skill to beat the vastly bigger and more experienced opponent? Maybe my 25+ years watching the sport has given me a skewed vision of boxing but for me it was an excellent bout.

I just felt he didn't do enough with these tactics which made it boring

If he got inside and through a few punches it would have been OK but did he ever throw more than 2 punches until the last round?

I wouldn't mind seeing the stats because it seemed like he only threw about 10 punches a round and that's far from making a excellent fight for me

Haye is hardly going to go in there and have a toe to toe scrap with Valuev though is he. Valuev has the height, reach and weight advantage. You'd be crazy to try and knock the guy out straight away or leave yourself open to any form of counter by throwing wild punches. Even spending too much time on the inside would have been dangerous.

I personally thought it was a very technical and intelligent fight from Haye; he kept on the move at all times and never allowed Valuev to get any momentum going in the fight. He bided his time and picked him off as and when he felt necessary. He even said this in the interview afterwards, he was biding his time and it was only in the final round he felt comfortable enough to test Valuev's chin; so he threw a haymaker in there, it landed bang on Valuev's chin and shook the 7ft monster.

I didnt say i wanted a toe to toe scrap, i wanted to see Haye come inside throw a few punches then back out

Which he only did once

To be fair, Haye executed his gameplan to perfection and all that really matters was that he won, no matter how he did it. He also said he injured his right hand in the 3rd round so maybe that dictated just how much attacking he could do. It might not have been brilliantly exciting but it was tactical and interesting and Haye was superb and proved all his doubters wrong.

No stamina? Lasted all 12 rounds.
No chin? Valuev never really caught him cleanly, but Haye didnt really look worried at any point and was confident enough to leave himself open plenty of times so credit to him for that.
All mouth - clearly not.

I think it was a superb fight by Haye and it's great to have another British champion and someone with a bit of personality spicing up the heavyweight division. Say what you want about him being cocky and arrogant but he's promoting his own fights as a relative newcomer and he's generating the press attention and interest in the fight, and has now shown he's got the ability to match the talk. Now he can negotiate with the Klitschko's on his own terms and we will have a huge fight on our hands.

Yet MMA can be like watching a hugging competition on the ground :).

I don't know how you guys can rave about MMA being superior to boxing when there hasn't been a decent fight in ages. I've watched almost every UFC since UFC 50, Strikeforce since it started and almost all of the Pride competitions from back in the day. Almost every MMA fight I've seen in the past 2 or 3 years pales in comparison to the older competitions when MMA was starting out. The commercialisation of MMA has ruined it IMO and there are only a handful of decent MMA fighters still around that are worth watching (Fedor, Anderson Silva, Shogun, GSP), and even their last few performances have been pretty uninteresting.

Yet in Boxing over the past two or three years we have seen a wealth of homegrown British talent do well (Khan, Haye, Froch, DeGale) and we have still some of the most exciting fighters around in this era, proven champions with fantastic track records Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Cotto, Marquez. Boxing will always remain the staple of professional fighting, your kidding yourselves with modern MMA fights, they are nowhere near as good as they used to be.

WEC is awesome as was the last UFC Fight Night. You should definitely watch those mate if you haven't seen them.

Fight Night 19 - Guillard v Diaz? I've seen Diaz in a lot better fights than that if I'm honest, the fact he got dropped early on with a weak punch shows his chin isn't what it used to be. Good submission at the end, shows his ground game has improved but overall I thought it was quite poor. I also caught a glimpse of a few of the other fights which were pretty basic if I'm honest. If I really think about it, there's not a lot that excites me about MMA these days. If Fedor came to the UFC it would have been interesting, but overall in the UFC there's little to be excited about in the heavyweight division, middleweight is OK (Anderson Silva dominates, Wanderlei - how old are these guys again?? Will Wanderlei even bother again?). Welterweight is perhaps the only division worth keeping an eye on, but yet again noone can touch GSP it seems. I will keep watching MMA as I always have done, but it seems to have had it's day and the glory years have been and gone :(.

World Extreme Cagefighting is shite, you may aswell watch Cage Rage .

Now back to the boxing...

Yeah boxing talk please.

Just watched the Sky coverage and fuck me what a negative bastard Jim Watt was towards Haye. All fight he went on about how you can't give the round to someone who is fighting negatively, even if they are landing the only punches. He was challenged that Haye had no other option but continued right up until the last round where he started to change his tune. Was like listening to Craig Burley on Setanta. What is it with Scottish commentators?

I must confess I find it mind numbingly ignorant for anyone to a. criticise Haye's tactics or
b. say that he didn't deserve to win the title
, to put it into perspective for some of the blinkered people out there:

Anyways, that's done and dusted, apparently Haye
must now have a mandatory defence against John Ruiz which could be interesting. Obviously it'll be a very different fight.

That's awesome

Put Mayweather in his place and proved that he is only in it for the money and not interested in any kind of legacy

So the big fight is upon us. :)) Im sticking to my prediction that Cotto will win tonight, I think Cotto will be too powerful for Pacquiao. obviously The Pacman is the favourite but I just have a feeling Cotto will produce a shock tonight.

BTW NO SPOILERS AFTER THE FIGHT PEOPLE. USE THE SPOILER TAGS THIS TIME! ;))

WOW!! Manny is ridiculously good. I thought Cotto may prove to be a bit of a stumbling block but he destroyed him. The only good division left in boxing has a couple of cracking fights left. If Mayweather doesn't shy out of fighting Manny(after watching last night i'm guessing he'd be in no rush to fight him).
Very impressive from Pacman and record breaker too

Very good fight

Yep, Pacquiao is just something else. The first round was a good one for Cotto and was thinking this could be interesting but slowly Cotto kept making mistakes which he got canned for. Surprised how he took what Cotto gave him and kept charging.

Pacquiao V Mayweather...unless Mayweather ducks him.
