Arsenal Thread

he didnt say that :P, the papers did :p

No it was actually skysports news that had him quoted saying that. The papers are the ones selling you crap that you are getting Buffon and co.

Wages are too high...those lads had the good life, now they must leave and adapt to another country only chelski seems to be weary.Real Madrid is the place where most wants to go.I guess? history over success or they see Chelski lacks integrity.

Well goons I hope Ribery is on the menu.We all know AW won`t be announcing any names anymore, not facing losing to other suitors

That artical is wrong. It is missing one quote, that went something like this. " I will add one, or, a maximum of two players to my squad".

He only ruled out buying attacking players.

It's actually Buffon's agent that has come out and said that Arsenal have made a serious offer for him.

I'm expecting 4 more players at least. A Keeper, CB, DM and winger. Going to be a busy period until the start of the season! I can't wait! :D

Ambitious! I'd say we'd be lucky to get two more players. More than likely a new, young defender ala Curtis Davies, but at £10 mil perhaps not actually Curtis Davies, if you know what I mean.

I think Thuram would be awesome for the team. At 34 he's not going to be a long term option but he's in excellent shape and has bags and bags of experience at the very highest level. He'd be an ideal inspiration for Big Phil, Djourou and even Kolo, even if it were just for one season.

If Buffon becomes available at a reasonable price (or as a way of paying off the remainder of Paddy's transfer?) then AW should definitely go for it. Jens has been a fabulous servant for the club (in the end!) and last season he was the best in the EPL, IMO. However, at 37 he's no spring chicken and a serious injury could have him out possibly for good. More to the point, when someone of Gigi Buffon's calibre becomes available you'd be mad not to get involved. He's only 28 and could possibly have another 10 years in him. Plus the only other 1st team keeper we have is Almunia #-o

Ideally I'd like to see another defensive/central midfielder at the club, but players in that position seem to be flavour of the month what with Man Yoo Real and a host of others scouring the market for tough tacklers in the middle of the park. Inevitably, they've almost all been priced out of a potential Arsenal move, the two most notable exceptions being Steven Appiah and Yaya Toure. Out of the two I'd personally prefer Yaya because a) he could develop a partnership with Kolo as the defensive spine of the team b) always nice to see a pair of brothers in the same side c) he's only 24 and d) his name is jokes.

As ever, don't read too much into what Wenger is and is not quoted as saying in the off season. He's fully aware that the media prey on his every word and I for one believe he sends out a few red herrings every now and again to get the hacks off the scent of his real dealings. Put it this way, AW said he likes Curtis Davies as a player but I'd be very surprised if he joins now, bearing in mind the figures that are being thrown around. Remember your faith! Arsene knows!

Thus concludes the sermon... [-o<

Sorry...i was being very ambitious! :( I've settled down now. I blame the rag red tops i read in the morning on the way to work!

Just looking at Wengers quote on BBC..

Wenger said:
I'm more likely to move for a defender to cover the departure of Sol Campbell, but I will not pay £10m for West Bromwich Albion defender Curtis Davies.

"We will sign one player, or two maximum, but no more. Davies is a player who I like, but I have not made an inquiry or a bid - £10m is too high."

Also, Big Phil is OUT!!

Senderos facing three months out

Senderos suffered the injury playing in the World Cup
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Philippe Senderos will be out for up to three months after dislocating his shoulder at the World Cup.
With Sol Campbell having left and other defenders injured, Wenger said they may be forced into the transfer market.

"We have lost Senderos for the next three months and Johan Djourou and Gael Clichy have had injuries," he said.

"If we find a player who can play centre back, left back then we are still open."

He picked out highly-rated West Brom defender Curtis Davis for particular praise.

"Curtis Davies I like. I have not made an inquiry or a bid but I like the player."

Arsenal's World Cup players are due to return to training later this week, and Wenger admitted another one of them - Freddie Ljungberg - was also injured.

"Freddie has had an inflammation in his foot," said Wenger.

"We have to check it with a scan. We will see."

Makes the move for Thuram on a short base more likely, but he has said his preference is Barca.

I'd like to see Yaya too, but isn't he quoted as saying he wasn't too impressed with his treatment from us when we turned him down, and he went to Olympiakos instead?

Also, i f*cking hate that c*nt Ashley. I'll boo him all season. TWAT.

Also (part 2), i just read this in The Guardian.

Guardian said:
Gunners have been linked with a number of names over the summer having already captured Tomas Rosicky, and Saviola has featured heavily after his agent Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela claimed the London side were keen to sign his client from Barcelona.

The tricky striker impressed during the World Cup finals and has also been linked with Bolton and Newcastle, but Wenger has now poured cold water on suggestions that The Emirates Stadium could be the player's destination, highlighting the extensive attacking options already at his disposal.

"We are not interested in Saviola at all," said Wenger in The Guardian.

"I have enough forward players.

"We have bought Rosicky. We have [Freddie] Ljungberg, [Robin] van Persie, [Jose Antonio] Reyes, [Thierry] Henry, [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Theo] Walcott, [Nicklas] Bendtner, [Jeremie] Aliadiere and [Arturo] Lupoli.

"Where do I put the strikers?"

Whilst Wenger is happy with his forward options, a new defender is certainly a priority after Sol Campbell's exit and the uncertainty over Ashley Cole's future.

A number of injuries have also left the Arsenal backline creaking, and to that end Wenger has admitted he is a confirmed fan of West Brom stopper Curtis Davies.

However The Baggies are determined to keep hold of the stopper, with Wenger describing their asking price of £10 million as "too high", and Arsenal are yet to make a formal approach for the former Luton Town man.

"We still want to strengthen our squad at the back," Wenger added.

"We have lost [Philippe] Senderos now for the next three months and we have injuries. [Johan] Djourou has been injured. [Gael] Clichy is injured.

"At the back, if we can find one player who can play centre back, left back, then we are still open.

I wonder if he's already braced for Cashley's move?

Anyway, back to work.......

well guys, with the 3 Serie A team getting relegated, who do u see wenger going for? hopefully Jimelnez who we were linked with before of Fiorentina, what postion does Dabo play? if hes a cb then lets go for him, but i think hes a rb, so nah. what about Tomas Ujfalusi of Fiorentina? hes a cb, or Zebina, can play both Rb and cb, not that we need him for rb?

Dabo officially joined City. Zebina is shit and will ruin Arsenal. Ufjalusi bids were rejected today and its likely he will stay. Jimenez left Fiorentina and returned to Ternana.

Picked up the new kit today. Feels amazing but the Fly Emirates is really taking some getting used to.

Well, whos going to Members Day on Thursday? I can't wait personally. Going to have a good look around the stadium. Thats all I am going for really, not that interested in seeing Cygan fall over his own feet when attempting to dribble it out of defence during the practice match!

Anyone going to DB's match on Saturday, apart from Joystick?

Yeah I am dude. I do have a serious problem though in that I can't find my membership card so I need to give the club a call and find out whether they will let me in on Saturday!

I wanted to go to Member's day but I got the invitation e-mail during my holibob's and when I got back the deadline has passed.

Welcome Edip, you're English is fine, it's actually better than some of the English people and definitely better than the Scottish ;)

I agree with you on Saviola, we definitely need to strengthen in other areas before spending money on strikers.

thanks for your words about my english...ı agree with you...Bot doesn't arsenal think a player from ajax..or young players from netherlands...I think Sneijder, Ryan Babel, Heitinga and the others...ı want to see them in arsenal a lot..because arsenal is the best team for them...they can't play for the other teams...namely any change about players from netherlands...ı think Hamburg transferde young genioous players...for example kompany, Van der vaart, nigel De jong...thats are very good transfers...And Chealsea transferd Salomon Kalou from Netherlands league...her is my opinion...we must be carreful to young players...especially the players who is playsin netherlands...
8)

I lıke Ajax's players very much..

İs there any people who is agree with me...:)

please someone say my words to arsenal...Arsenal must see this words..thats are very important... :D

I've always had a thing for Wesley Sneijder (that sounds a bit gay doesn't it?) I think he's highly underratted and could slot into most top sides. He's very versatile, two footed and can hit a sweet free kick. A real student of total football. Thing is I don't really see how he fits into the current Arsenal eleven :(

maybe u r right...but ı want to see him again...he is very genius...:)
he must be in Arsenal's rosters...;)

Hows the new stadium then ? to the gooners that went to that members day

Its going to be weird next season, none of that low camera view on TV now for highbury, I think I might miss it in a strange sort of way

still think you need a fighter in your midfield. You just know you're gonna get kicked to fuck by Everton, Blackburn, Bolton, etc.

I'm both worried and excited about the new season. Worried because I feel if we stick with the squad we have and don't add to it then I don't think the squad is strong enough.

I also feel the sqaud will again come a croper against the bullying teams as mentioned above.

But I am very excited because I know we have very exciting young players that I can't wait to see in action this season. I think we can win the league. But we must strengthen our squad, especially because we have been cursed recently with injuries to our players.

We definately need another defender - an experienced one aswell. I think if we bought Curtis Davies then it would be good, but we need someone with alot of experience to help us through, what is going to be a long tough season.

I have no doubt if we have a fully fit squad for the season then we wil be successful, but after last season, we know that will rarely be the case. So we need back up and good back up at that.
