Arsenal Thread

Cavani's best days were at Napoli indeed.

He's a dangerous striker though, when played CF. What he has that Giroud doesn't is a bit of pace and work rate (although Giroud does defend corners very well, Cavani tracks back and closes down defenders in a way that would benefit a style of pressure high up the pitch).

He didn't have a good Copa America and World Cup, so his stock could be low now.

But I wouldn't fault Wenger for not signing a CF. Not many available. Unless Pep Guardiola goes back to his plan of killing off the natural CF position in his team, and Lewandowski becomes available.

I can't see Zlatan or Benzema leaving either... so I guess it's better not to spend just for the sake of it.

Imo, you need a ST desperately, as does Wenger himself. Arsenal and Wenger finally have a great chance to win the league, a chance that may not come around again for a while.
But you won't win it with Giroud. He's not a 20+ goal striker.

Would be surprising to me if you don't at least try for Dzeko. He doesn't have the buildup play that Giroud has but he's a natural goalscorer. Him and Giroud would be good STs to alternate

There are rumours about Dzeko, seems we're linked with him. But I think he's on a similar level to Giroud. I'm not sure he would score over 20 goals for Arsenal either.

I agree that this season Wenger has his best chance in years to win the league.

But I'm just not sure he would do like Liverpool for instance, and splash 32m pounds on a Benteke. For that kind of money, it has to be a striker that will perform as RVP did for Man United, or Aguero and D. Costa still do.

Tancredi Palmeri @tancredipalmeri

It's all true the Arsenal bid for Benzema: 45m€. Real Madrid was initially open to talk, but now they have stopped everything
6:40 AM - 20 Jul 2015

Let`s hope the reason they stopped is to focus on Reus to RM will happen  I heard the plan is to put Ronaldo to lead the attack :ST: . Let`s hope Mufc won`t stick their nose and focus on getting Muller :)

That should be why then. At 28, I think he's better off now joining a good team for the next 3-4 years where he can play as CF. He can't afford to waste more time.

EDIT: And I just noticed my post is 4 posts late since gerd's.

The CF were signing won't command a regular place IMO based of the fact LVG see's Rooney as first choice for that role.

Benzema would be incredible for you lot

Re: The ARSENAL ThreadMerak to see

Rumours has it ! Arsenal is handy Giroud extend 3 yrs @ 130k ! Wtf!!! I remember they extended Ramsey during his worse season he had the season before. What's the logic in rewarding without merit.

Yeah, i threw my paper on the tube when i read that this morning. Come on Wenger - we have a great squad - strengthen it with Quality. God knows why he isn't backing up Coq and Giroud - it's plain to see! Will prob leave it till the last half hour of the transfer window, and then say they need 2-3 months to settle in.

I'm also resigning myself to Cech being the only signing this window.
His got backup for girud with Walcott and wellbeck

Arsenal won the emirates cup! :) but next week is the first real test
1st match was brilliant martinez done pretty well it was well balanced squad coquelin done excellent stopped a lot of lyon attacks and the counters lead to goals

2nd match was different felt the balance of the squad wasn't right
For me it shows how important Coquelin is,
Arteta just isn't good enough even when he does win a tackle or intercept he's not quick enough to start a counter
wolfsburg just passed the midfield too easy
saying that the back 4 had a good game cech too dealt with everything properly my concern is if coquelin gets injured
although hayden done pretty well in that cdm position when he came on
despite usually being a cb
walcott was good but i felt at least at the start arsenal shouldve played a bit differently because wolfsburg pressed very high arsenal shouldve lobbed the ball into free space for walcott to chase
although cant complain too much because arsenal kept cleen sheets overall played very well

youngsters were impressive do hope to see more in the future as they looked very promising

i still believe arsenal need a proper striker and a backup cdm
but other than that im very happy with the squad

Can cech make it 3 out of 3 with the community shield? lol XD

Mickey mouse cup is in Orlando,FL @Disney World . The Arsenal are filling up that cabinet trophy nicely . You need results and mental strength to challenge and we broke a layer of the mental block called "Fuckinchino-Mourinho" We`ve did really really well w/o Alexis Sanchez who would of thought. Im so excited to finally beat Mou`s Chelsea , it`s huge !!!!

I think Arsene has this squad finally playing well w/o interruptions (clubs poaching players) . The tree are baring fruits , in the past 4 seasons it look like patience was the downfall . We all wanted Wenger to bring in 5-6 top class players.Theo is better suited from the wing . The Ox in the box had a good strike ,but Ozil`s vision n pass clearly gave the advantage for Alex Ox. I really think Coq should be our main DM he knows the squad`s in`s n out's . Im all over the place atm ...good result defended and took out their fire power along the way to. Hazard was the wolf in sheep`s clothing ,but we made sure the wolf stayed fully clothed .:SMUG: Falcao might come handy ,but I doubt it.

Roy Keane this for you

Great that Arsenal won today, It was a good game.
Defence looked better with Cech in goals, He's a great keeper and I'm sure he'll do well throughout the season ( 3 out of 3 for Cech :) )
I thought that Arsenal gave away the ball a bit which kept inviting pressure when we could've put on more pressure on instead
Although saying that everyone gave a solid performance
Koscielny and Coquelin played really well
Chamberlain scored a fantastic goal

Ofcourse the community shield isn't the most important trophy but it was still a very important game, anyone can see what it meant by watching the match and after the match aswell

The real test beings now with the new season
I'm looking forward to it

Mourinho made those preemptive comments about the Community Shield being just a little more important than pre-season friendlies and then backed it up by throwing away to the crowd his runners-up medal (a classless act that you'd expect from him).

But I'm sure he said those things because he knew he was going to lose :SMUG:

Was great to finally see Wenger breaking this curse/juju of not beating Mourinho. There were times he was thoroughly beaten and given a lesson, but other times it was down to bad luck. Anyway, this was long overdue.

Now the real thing starts and it will be great to see our squad firing on all cilinders for the first time since I can remember (only Wilshere has a minor injury, but should be back soon).

Plus, the anticipation for a signing remains. Lots to look forward to, I'm glad football is back :)

If there's anyone who would be class-less, it would probably be Arsene Wenger.

Loonyfest-both were shameless lol its a bit too much hype. Although the moment they had that pushing debate they both handled it better. Wenger admitting he was wrong and Mourinho said it was nothing.

Half time arsenal vs west ham 0-1
disappointed with the score because arsenal were starting to dominate and the last 10 to 15 mins was really great attacking football couple of very close chances

It shouldnt have been a free kick for west ham which lead to their goal
ramsey's foot was up before the west ham players head was even near
it was even worse than the norwich disallowed goal which should've been a goal btw, it should a rule now no overhead kicks period because might aswell since this is getting ridiculous

tomkins shouldve been sent off 2 bad fouls i just dont get the consistency one game you can do 2 bad fouls get sent off but then others you can do unlimited bad fouls, there needs to be more consistency in the ref's decisions
i think west ham tactics were to do late tackles and take out the arsenal players because it happened a dozen times were they kicking andd taking out our players that late when the ref has already turned around, linesmen needs to do more
arsenal needs to scream and complain when tackled, it has worked for other teams

cant really say what arsenal had done wrong other than the goal
its a very good entertaining match regardless

the west ham goal was bad cech probably shouldnt have come out
and sad to say other issue was coquelin as everyone trying to play the offside trap but coquelin kept them all on which made it too dangerous

commentators are laughable...

but arsenal are still very much in the game as theyre playing well
hope for a better 2nd half

It was an entertaining weekend of football so far

but... that first goal changed everything it was never a free kick

west ham were allowed to follow on with late tackles when the ball was long gone kicking arsenal players constantly furious with that went unpunished
but yet sanchez barely touched the wrist of tomkins he diving down and gets a free kick wtf does that make sence?

your allowed to kick or stamp players legs apparently but barely touching the wrist is a no no.... i say no more

also whats the point of yellow cards if your not going to give anymore to the same players for more fouls

They might aswell add new rules people! no yellow cards and no overhead kicks!

arsenal were poor in 2nd half tried to make the perfect goal when someone couldve had a shot from outside the box which happened constantly through the game

I'm expecting a Pulis masterclass next week. Right now I don't see us having any chance of beating Palace away.

As for today, classic Arsenal. Concede a stupid goal and then chase endlessly by crowding around the opposition box. It has happened too often before. Sometimes we'd get away with it but West Ham were lethal today. The most frustrating thing to see was Giroud going out wide a crossing it several times.

Unfortunate for Cech, but hopefully those were his normally few times in a season mistakes out of the way. Coquelin never looked like last seasons Coquelin and it impacted the match considerably.

It's easy to say this but we really, really need a new striker.

Tomkins maybe should've had a red card but it's no excuse.
