Arsenal Thread

Quite a good day for us, decent xmas period, tricky trip to Southampton on New Years day, hopefully we can get at least a point.

Hopefully Welbz can get a few in the next couple of games so we don't miss Giroud too much.

Top marks for Cazorla, Welbeck, Ox and Alexis. Ox was a bit too anxious to finish towards the end and Alexis was quieter than normal, but still great stuff from them. Especially Alexis having played 2 days ago, what a player he is!

Good to have Kos back too.

Now we need our midfielders back - Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta... Wenger had to use Le Coq today and he didn't look too bad.

I worry a lot though about the lack of rotation/opportunities for Podolski and Campbell. Both very good players in my book, just give them 2 or 3 consecutive games and let them show what they can do. But Wenger isn't willing to do that :(
I'm afraid they will be off then.

PS: I had absolutely no idea that the Hammers had the great Alexander Song Billong Billong III in their ranks. How things change quickly, heh!

WHAT is our goal keeper thinking?! WHY hasnt Whinger bought a proper GK since we lost Seaman??

WENGER OUT I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!

Since Lehmann you mean. But I have to agree we're in a dire situation with keepers for a long time, I'm one of the people in here saying for a long time that Szczesny isn't by any means the level of keeper we should be aspiring to have.

That move there, that was very Almumia of him. He has some false charges off his line like that a couple of times every match or two, and gets away with it most of the time.

BTW, just as I type this our boy Szczesny just gifted them another goal. Toe poke it to the front of the 9-yard box! Brilliant. You can't make that shit up.

We are clueless fella - Wenger isnt a tactician everyone knows how to play against us.

And if we have to play a team in Top 4, especially away from home, forget it - we wont get the win.

We used to be Arsenal FC. We're just Wenger FC these days. same old results, same old misakes, same old 'happy with 4th' every year.

Sick to death of it.

Fk'n hell!!! Calamity in the middle+back= sczency!

Soton were threatening w/ every run ... Our middle has no steele it's styrofoam made. how come everyone is injured .I thought the German Physio was sorting everything ffs.

Well I don't know exactly what happened behind the curtains for this match, all I know is that Giroud was suspended.
I don't know what became of Flamini, or how long Arteta will be out for. Ramsey was supposed to be back today, but I suppose there's been another "setback" in his recovery.

What I know is: we went to a difficult away match using CHAMBERS and COQUELIN as DMF and CMF (Ramsey position). Chambers had his 1st match at DMF for us I think, and Coquelin is probably the last in the midfield pecking order, but played he Ramsey role as a starter. That's how poor the team we put out today really was.

Up front we had only Sanchez and Ox? I don't know what happened to Welbeck, but I do know Campbell was once again an unused sub and Podolski wasn't even on the bench. Sometimes I think Wenger would have used Akpom or a one-legged Sanogo ahead of Campbell or Podolski. That is SO frustrating.

At the end of the day, although we are admittedly short of defenders in our squad, our back four was the only sector where we had all our personnel available. Everywhere else we're a shambles (midfield, because of injuries; and attack because of Wenger's stubborness).
I really really really don't get what the old man is up to anymore.

And just for good measure I'll just say once again how UTTERLY SHIT our first keeper is. Really.

Anyone see that fan run onto the pitch and confront Wenger?? I was yelling "GO ON FELLA, TELL HIM!"

Thankfully the match going fans like myself are getting fed up now and calling for his head.

Should have happened a long time ago.

Me too, I thought he may have been too thirsty so he just tipped the ball to the Saints strikers, be done with it and sip from his bottle. Either that or there is something other than water in that bottle of his.

On another note, Podolski left on loan to Inter. It was expected, but I can't say I'm happy with that. First of all Podolski had been on fire not long ago scoring wonderful strikes in the Champions League but got inexplicably dropped from the team for the following matches. For a striker this must be really puzzling. Score a brace here and there and get benched by your boss. Watch people being improvised in your position, but you still don't get a look from the manager. This must be truly frustrating for the player.

Good luck to him at Inter. Incredibly enough, it's a loan deal too. If Wenger doesn't want to use him at all, I'm sure he could have found a permanent move for a German international who's just took part in a World Cup winning squad?

I mean, come on, we're not trying to shift Bendtner here! Just sell the guy and at least make some money off him.

Those kind of deals, the inactivity in key moments in the transfer market, the whole thing about going with 6 defenders into a new season, and the lack of a commanding and physical DMF for 6 or 7 years now... All of this starts to outweigh even the great things such as the Alexis deal.

At the end of the day, we have a fantastic player such as Alexis but we're still 6th in the table. We're over halfway through the season and still struggling to break into the top 4.

Rentboy, as I've said earlier, I don't feel the need to post, because you put everything on the table so clearly. Really don't know what Wenger is thinking. He's seriously lost the plot. It's as simple as that. People who don't want Wenger to leave only do so because they are afraid of change. But there are plenty of great managers in the world who could manage this squad much better. At the end of the day, that's all coacing is. Squad management through tactics, training, motivation, etc. Tell me which one of these jobs is Wenger doing amazing at? At the end of the day, with a club like Arsenal, he's been piss poor besides guiding the team theough a financially rough period. A period, which arguably was made more difficult due to some of his decisions.

Can't really see how someone like Diego Simeone would not be managing this team better. I guarantee there would be a better mentality in the team and players would be playing in their correct positions. That's just 2 basic things and it's already 3-4 steps at where we are. How many more years do we have to wait until Wenger just gives up and buys a proper physical CB or DMF. We're not asking for Ronaldo. Just a physical DMF and CB that would bring some tenacity and tactical depth to the team. Even somebody like Mohamed Diame would have been a significant asset. Playing Chambers is in DMF is a joke that would never ever happen in any other top club unless a very very bizarre situation. But this is regular Arsenal where Wenger doesn't buy players because he plans that Chambers can play DMF or Monreal can play CB.

I feel bad for going all in at one of my most respected figures in football, but I'm not being bitter at all. Just stating the obvious. Wenger isn't bad by any means, but his failure to do 3-4 basic things for multiple years on going is hurting the club and his reputation.

Alexis is a dream player to have. I remember during the summer he putting in a shift.Im just saying hard work goes a long way. We are blessed to see such a player working so hard offensively-creatively-defensively. I hope his example sets a new bar (hard work goes a long way)

Alexis is the man, that is all.

As for Szczesny, I don't know. One can't get fined for being shit, can one?

Wenger said that playing Ospina in the FA Cup wasn't some sort of punishment to Szczesny, but I think it's totally worth it to give the Colombian a run between the sticks for us. Not that I'm overtly impressed with his performances, but if he can steer clear from the fuck ups our boy Szczesny is so prone to having, then it's already a good thing.

Ah yes, appaarently he smoked in the dressing room. After 2 howlers like that you'd have to be one cheeky bastard to pull this off. Wenger won't be pleased.

Ospina please. Let's root out those who behave like clowns and give a chance to someone working seriously.

I know it's not our priority for January, but a world class keeper would be a great and long overdue signing.

It has already been revealed that the story was a fake story made up by shit journalist Jonathan Cross and his 'sources'.

I genuinely think Wenger has just lost the ability to impose himself on his players.

They respect him to a point because he's Arsene Wenger but the moment he tries disciplining them they basically don't get a fuck and he can't do anything.

Szczesny can do one with his cockiness. Surprised Ospina hasn't started more anyway.

Ospina been injured more then fit. We had our 3rd Choice GK having more matches under his belt this season . Ospina looks average nothing else...the funniest bit of all this was Szceny having an interview about his most recent growth as a GK from last season was his ' commanding in the box' lol

What a joke ... It's the selfie on the pitch again to haunt him ffs!

He drinks some water and has a fake story about him smoking, now Wenger can't control the dressing room and Sczc is a lost cause?

Exactly what I expect from this thread.

Welcome to the world of football Bobby. Players have highs and lows and will suffer with media speculation and fan hatred, it's always been like this. A keeper doing howlers like that is always going to be under pressure, and no one can control the rumour mill.
Whether he smoked or not, got a fine or not, we can't know for sure.

What I do know is that Arsenal should have a better keeper. You can't look at the clubs around Arsenal and say you're happy with Szczesny. All clubs sitting ahead of Arsenal right now in the table have superior keepers. Cortouis/Cech, Hart, De Gea, Foster, Lloris.

This may look just like a temporary coincidence for now, but when you consider that our keeper has been costing us points, you can't help but think about it. Also just think about De Gea's performance at the Emirates and you might understand the impact a good keeper can have in your league standings with such fine margins.

I've had my doubts about Szekhpytsdfgey (or whatever) for a couple of years.

But it is a litle bit too easy and too obvious to single out a GK when the team's defending has been weak for years (and weak is a big understatement).

The same happened with Mignolet at Liverpool.

Manchester Cityhas twice proven that a team can become champions despite having a liability in goal, both Mignolet and Szesccszny (or whatever) are certainly not worse that Joe Heart.

Sometimes i understand that managers and players don't give a toss about the fans' opinions (oh and i'm the same for Spurs, i'm far from above it).

Liverpool and Arsenal would both be FAR BETTER if they had a decent GK.

Look at Chelsea and Man U - they have proper Goal Keepers. A good goalie is worth at least 3-10 points alone - look at De Gea saving Man U backsides this season so far!

Mignolet and Sir Chesney Hawks are TERRIBLE keepers and should be a midtable club NOT CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

I can rant all night about Arsenal, I keep waking up with texts from friends "Wenger has been sacked mate!" and I run downstairs, with excitement, like a kid on Xmas Day. I turn on Sky Sports News and there IS NO yellow ticker saying "Le Clueless One has been sacked by Arsenal".

WHY?! god? What did we do as Arsenal fans to deserve this?
