Arsenal Thread

Retreat that smack, now! xD
BTW, why aren't we talking about City stumbling at the Etihad for the first time? We're back to the status quo!

Is zis ze beginning of Le Collapse? After all, it's February, it's time for a complete shambles. And we're oh so used to it.

The right thing to do is to consider this game as 3 points lost in the table and nothing more. Of course there are the lessons to be learned, but we need some tiny bit of confidence going into the next games and the mentality of still being in the fight.

The only way to avoid the February crisis is to get our shit together by beating United on Wednesday and knocking Liverpool out of the FA cup next weekend.
That's the only way to exorcise the ghosts.

Today's game was not only a freak occurrence but there was a stark difference between the way both teams play football. By the time we were already 0-4 down, we had more possession, but who gives a fuck? Our passing game is too slow. Liverpool, in contrast, got in the face of Sczcesny with 2 or 3 touches on the ball.

And what's more, they showed that killer instinct that Arsenal never has. When they smell blood they go relentlessly for more. When Arsene's Arsenal plays a great match and open up a 2-0 lead, the team takes its foot off the gas and 'control' the match, only to give away one goal in the later stages of a match and find themselves having to soak up the pressure. Familiar scenario? I've certainly seen this time and time again from Arsenal. Utterly frustrating.

Questions will be asked about our record signing Özil, and rightly so. For the umpteenth time this season he did fuck all and, what's worse, not only omitted himself offensively, but he also gave the ball away cheaply for 2 of their goals.

I'm still getting to know the player better and watch him every week. Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like his heart's not in it for most of the time.
Wilshere was maybe the only one who showed heart and tried to call some responsibility upon himself.

Anyway, here we go! Oh, and this time the mauling came after the transfer window closed, so no 'panic buying' now :FAIL:

Liverpool exploited the fact that Kos and Per were so high up the pitch. Every time with a high defensive-line our defense is shambolic.

Özil was the worst player on the pitch IMO.

Only positives were Szczesny, Wilshere and the Ox who atleast tried.

In all fairness, Wenger has to take a lot of the blame for this. Which manager watches his team letting in a sequence of 4 goals without making adjustments on the pitch?
The writing was on the wall, minutes before their 3rd and 4th counter attacking goals, Suarez had set up Sturridge with a one-on-one chance against Sczcesny.
Wenger watched all that and didn't correct our players' positioning or anything. It was just waiting to happen.

Arsenal won't go too far like this. We desperately need to be more dynamic. And sometimes kick into a different gear, as we need more directness, to pass the ball faster and in a less predictable way.

Today the boys were so easy to mark, it wasn't even funny. Mignolet didn't break a sweat for about 70 minutes of this match.

You know what else makes a huge difference? The appetite with which the Liverpool players pressed us high up the pitch. Our players didn't do anything in the slightest similar.
In modern football it is key to do that kind of pressing game. It was through this that Chelsea reduced City to nothing. But we just don't see much of this from our attacking players.

Credit to Liverpool for being absolutely on berserk mode and hurting us somehow with every bit of possession they had. Hope we learn a bit from this, because we need a bit of this in our game style.

This is a match to forget, if we want to retain confidence the players need to put this one behind pretty quick. And it's real soon. Wednesday we have the chance to do so. Let's hope the players and manager bounce back and show real character.

Not much pace in attack without Walcott

and not many runs beyond Giroud from midfield without Ramsay. Giroud was poor but he was put into poor situations too often.

Giroud looked like a Championship striker at times. But as you said, not all of it is his fault. One can see he's clearly knackered too, so the decision of not getting a CF in January might haunt Arsene for a long time.

Still too early to draw conclusions from this. I hope the team can bounce back.

Last time we got stuffed at the Etihad stadium we went on a winning streak and got 20 points out of 24.
I hope for more of the same from now on, that would be just what the doctor ordered.

It is key for us to win our home games, especially against United and City. If we can do that, I can accept getting stuffed in away games as long as we finish on top.

Brilliant campaign but the wheels could really come off soon, I think you'll get 3rd but with Liverpool on current form you'll need to keep winning games get there.

Really pathetic how those shitheads at MOTD were laughing about it. Incredibly funny when a 64 year old falls. Cunts.

Yeah they showed the pictures and Lineker was smirking and said 'It was a day to remember for Arsene Wenger' on a sarcastic tone.

Let those little pricks have their fun. Wenger will have the last laugh!

Wenger and the players must deliver on Wednesday, knowing they owe a lot to the fans. Our team better turn up with an appetite and with a sense that they have a lot to prove.

It's important because United rarely fail to turn up against Arsenal. They love this fixture. Expect even the likes of Cleverley and Smalling to be playing like beasts.

So we need everybody well up for it and focused. Win this convincingly and we can put a bit of momentum together again and turn up again at the Emirates next weekend with some serious lust for blood and vendetta!

I have seen MOTD, they didn't laugh at all...i agree that there was no need to show this picture (let alone to take it), but Lineker was not laughing at all...
