Arsenal Thread

When you win, can you please embarrass us? That's what we need right now. A simple 2-1 or even 3-0 isn't good enough. We need to get tonked if we hope to move Moyes.

If the boys play the match of their lives and we're leading 2-0 by 15 minutes played, then we will go into casual innocuous tippy-tappy mode and coast through the match sitting on this lead, only to see United score one goal with 5 minutes left til full time. By this point we will be grinding our teeth, hurling abuse at the TV, sweating, chewing our nails and shitting our pants, hoping it won't go all tits up with a last minute equaliser... which obviously will happen.

Wow, that is too bitter from me

Seriously, I have no idea what will happen. We could turn up, or we could play a shit 1st half as we've been doing time and again. And United could be too respectful, not dare enough... or they could come with guns blazing and step up to the match, as they love this fixture. The type of performance that could see Jones score a brace, and Smalling playing like a god. haha
That would be typical!

Whatever happens, I wanna see some fucking attitude from this team. And the likes of Özil stepping up and showing they give a tiny fuck for a change.

I'm not so sure that Liverpool can't win the EPL.

Agree was so sure chelski would extend their lead but they looked flat and not like a team hell bent on winning it.

City looked the part but also faltered over the last 2 games.

So far Liverpool look the most intent yes there have been a few stumbles but if you look at the body language they seem like a hungry bunch.

12 games to go I think they may just get in there especially with tough Champions League fixtures coming up for the others. Spurs and Everton imo do not have the legs to penetrate the top 3.

If Flamini available?

Arsenal will tear United to shreds. Liverpool provided a perfect plan for how to play them - pressure pressure pressure - but United will sit back and let Arsenal play like United always do.

United might nick a goal from a set piece, but I see Arsenal having too much. 3-1 to the home team I'm thinking.

I don't see a ton of Arsenal, but is it possible for Jack Wilshere to be touched without laying down for a minute? Every single tackle he goes into or is part of, he spends a few seconds rolling around. Even when he's won the ball!

I think we could of had a penalty Shout , when Vidic pushed Giroud inside the box. That said Ozil is made to have a target not stop and side pass. We need to change tactics and bring in Podolski(more fire power). We really miss Ramsey n Flamini I hope they return on FACup match on Sunday.

Excellent display and brilliant tactics by Wenger. Perfectly executed by the players till the end.
In the end, our masterplan materialised and we held United to a draw at the Emirates.
We're firing on all cylinders for that 4th place trophy! Yay! :BOP: :FAIL:

Seriously? Turgid football from Arsenal. That whole aura of a team that plays an exciting brand of football is a travesty nowadays.
We're up there on the table because our players defend much better as a team. Still prone to shooting ourselves in the foot, mind you. The clusterfuck that was the Anfield match resumed today in the beginning when Van Pursestrings was gifted an early chance.

But Arsenal's attacking football as a whole seems to have deteriorated. Our short passing game may be good enough for small teams, cause we deny them 70% of possession and eventually break into their weaker defences.
But why can't we come with the goods against stronger teams? Because if the opposition has a slightly better defence, they'll cope with our counterfeit tikka takka all day long. Once again their keeper didn't break a sweat in the 1st half and then in the 2nd we didn't change philosophy. It was 5 meter passing until the end, with little to no end product.

It was really infuriating when after the 90 minute mark, when we were pressing and had United cornered, instead of building on that, and trying to be the more direct we could (with only 2 minutes on the clock) we chose to pass the ball at the back between Kos, Mertesacker and Arteta. Yeah, very likely to see a goal coming from that, boys! :COAT:
All supporters were booing that, and the jeers continued after final whistle. And deservedly so!

It's like the team was afraid to win. I'm sorry but in the end this team played like cowards. As if the 0-0 was good for us.
If anything, United did their job by winning at home and drawing at ours. We, on the other hand, fell miserably short. And we continue on this mental block against them. Not even against Moyes. Not even against the weakest United side we can ever remember seeing on a visit to the N5.

Now fingers crossed we can walk proudly out the front door of the Champions League. Hope Bayern doesn't embarrass us too much.
I don't even care to be honest. This was all very off puting.
Rant over.

Chelsea at home all over again. Both teams were there for the taking but we lacked so much. Can't help but think we would've won it if he had a world class striker upfront. I really like Giroud, and he could do a good job for us. However, I don't think he should be our first choice striker.

The game came at the worst time for both sides.

Arsenal had just got hammered and we were probably hoping to just not get hammered.

lead to the stalemate.

I thought the second half was ok as a game, I must be easily pleased. Some good chances and saves.

We need to beat Liverpool on Sunday though and get some revenge and a bit of confidence for Bayern.

Agreed second half was good. Man u are disappointing though. They seemed more intent on not losing rather than winning.

And we still had the best chances.

Arsenal were typical Arsenal for me. Lots and lots of passing, but real fear of actually doing anything with it.

The one time United were able to break at pace, they should have scored if RVP had put his head pretty much anywhere else. Then it would have been 1-0, and everyone would have said how Moyes used Fergie's gamemplan to perfection. Those are the margins.

I thought we had more chances in the second half, the clearance off the line, the two good saves by de Gea and the miss by Giroud when the ball was crossed perfectly across the face of goal....also I think we deserved a penalty when Giroud was pushed over......but I'm biased ;))

That looked a lot like a penalty to me. I've seen them given.

Arsenal's performance as a whole was disappointing IMO. You do have to turn up at both halves to win big games, you know.
And even if the 2nd was a lot better, it wasn't good enough. The same problems: predictable movement and passing. Too much possession and a whole lot of nothingness.

It was telling that Cazorla's shots were the most dangerous efforts we made. He's the one player who will try some different things and long range efforts.

This team is not ready to win stuff. I can feel it. When you have your opponents against the ropes like we had United yesterday atstoppage time and simply shy away from it like the team did, passing the ball at the back without any purpose or urgency with 2 minutes left... that is a sign for me. This team is afraid to win stuff. It's uncanny!

It's not the end of the world but it surely was a hell of an opportunity to go top and we chucked it away.
Wenger should work closely with his star players in order for them to feel more confident, and free to break the mould when needed.
Arsenal has to start approaching big games in a different manner. It's pretty fucking clear we ain't gonna pass the ball into the net against these stronger teams in the same way we do against Crystal Palace.
