Arsenal Thread

Fabianski, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Flamini, Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Podolski, Sanogo

Jones, Flanagan, Skrtel, Agger, Cissokho, Gerrard, Allen, Coutinho, Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge

Don't think we have any chance with that B-squad. :/

I'm sorry rentboy, but Porto has a tiny budget compared to other European Giants.
Hell, even Anderlecht has a bigger budget than Porto.
Winning that CLwith Porto was a great achievement if not by Mourinho himself, then by the club.

And that is Mourinho's point: mourinho himself ofcourse thinks that a manager/coach is instrumental in winning titles. Ifyou look at it from this angle, then Wenger is a failure....

I have two things to say about this:

1 Even if it's true, it's classless to say something like that, one should always win in style imo (that is why i like Wenger).
2 I'm notsure the influence of a manager coach is that important in the success of a club, it can be huge in the failure...(but far from always).

This is why I made sure to remark that Porto is the wealthiest club in Portugal. I'm not comparing it to European giants, as you say. Instead, I'm pointing out how dominant they are in Portugal - they've simply won 14 league titles in the last 20 seasons!

Regardless of how many titles Mourinho has won, I think my point has substance to it, if you know a bit of Mourinho's personality: if he had to manage a club with restricted spending power due to building a stadium, you would put your money on him bailing out.

For that, we have to be greatful for Wenger. And in his (Wenger's) case, the importance of the manager/coach has been huge. Not only to the aspect of playing football, but he also conceived how the new training facilities would be built, even the dressing room.
Well, you may have read Arsènal - the building of a modern club. It's in there, how Wenger took part in more than you'd imagine.

Anyway, today's game: I'd put my money on us knocking Liverpool out, if Wenger worked the mentality of his players and the need to give something good to the home fans.
But after looking at the starting lineup, I begin to have my doubts :(
Jenkinson and Monreal? Fabianski?
We could be ripped appart by Suarez. This one could go either way, really.

Proven guilty by the Italian court. Just think about that for a second. Two seasons ago Conte was suspended for four months, all because a single bitter player of his said he had known about fixed matches at Siena. This player actually re-traced his own opinion twice. This shows how big of a joke the Italian Juridical system is. You should read into Farsopoli better. Anyway, I'm not going to discuss this any further, since you're probably only trying to get to me. I don't even know why you brought Juventus up in the first place.

I wouldn't want to discuss it either if I were you. I brought it up because you were saying Chelsea didn't have any class and last time I checked they hadn't been demoted because of blatant cheating at the very least...

John 8:7 is about throwing the first stone...

Congrats with the FA cup advancement.

Good luck in the next round guys, hopefully you can go on and win it. Its the least Wenger deserves, and hopefully Mourinho and Chelsea win f@&k all just for the amusement!

It was a Chelsea fan who brought up that site about Arsenal first. I replied to him. Like I said two times already, you need to read more about Farsopoli before you judge. It isn't as easy as it seems.

It was a match Arsenal needed to win, the truth is Liverpool`s 5-1 did effect us. So, I`m glad to be done w/ Liverpool. I saw 2 things from Liverpool that made me chuckle Sterling`s hand on Webb and Sturridge boot tying on SuperFanbanSki formerly know as "flappybanski"

Wenger said:
"I am embarrassed for him, honestly. First of all I would say that I didn't speak about him at all in my press conference, and I have no more to say... I am more disappointed for Chelsea than for me."

Then ,Who was Wenger speaking about in the press conference? Rodgers?! I won`t do the handicap bit ,but leaving a person`s name out to fill the blank is the same ...no?

seems like giroud thinks he is a role model-superstar. apologizing to the whole world because of his private issues. :BORED:

Think Giroud was set up! I bet she had reporters on the wing and since Giroud isn`t loaded £££ She could get more from the media outlet.

That tweet just shows how green he is...I`m more bother he hasn`t finish more goals (header vs Mutd)

The Arsenal page is there, it exists and it's contents are nothing more than facts.

I have read enough about the match fixing scandal in Italy and without Juventus eyes so I have a different opinion than you, obviously. I'm under no illusion, many more clubs worldwide are dirty and I don't hold any particular grudge against Juventus. I just brought it up as a hint that you probably shouldn't throw stones when you're sitting firmly in a glass house.

Think Giroud was set up!

Does it matter? He put his schlong where it doesn't belong.

Giroud should know better. I'm not even going to touch on his marriage issue, this is his problem. But shagging the girl at 3am the night before a big match??
FFS, football players never cease to disappoint.
Now I bet Wenger regrets not getting another striker.
Let's hope Sanogo has more chances from now on. Giroud needs a reality check. The guy thinks he'll fuck around til the early hours and just walk into the team. No wonder he looks knackered and plays like a championship striker at times!

Actually it doesn't contain facts. It should be called 'Since Arsenal last won a major trophy' it is now only implying that. We won the Markus Liebherr trophy. :SMUG:

Like I said, I don't understand why you brought up Juventus. This was between an Arsenal fan (myself) and a Chelsea fan (Mehtab). Yes, I support Juventus too, but that has nothing to do with this, regardless of Farsopoli.

I wouldn't say them too, it's more like Zero using anything he can to launch personal attacks, when there were no real reasons to bring up Juventus in this.

Anyway... that Howard Webb, huh? He gave the penalty that shouldn't be and didn't give the one that really was. Compensation?
Maybe he had a guilt trip for giving that first penalty on Suarez and a dangerous free kick for a Flanegan dive on the edge of the box, after missing Skertel's studs on Cazorla inside the Liverpool box.
Whatever that was, it was bad officiating yesterday.

The way Suarez fell on the 2nd time is already a hit on the internet:

Juventus was just as relevant as Chelsea, which I explained in detail a few posts above. I didn't get personal at all unless you're really, really touchy. I.E. that you identify yourself with Juventus somehow, in which case I would urge you to contact a shrink.

I think they were both penalties to be honest. And the Cazorla one might have been a pen too, but I didn't see a replay of it. For the first one it was a badly timed tackle from Podoloski, yes it wasnt very malacious and it wasnt a big hack or anything like that but there was contact and it was enough to impede Suarez and stop his leg from moving forward. The second one was a more obvious penalty, it was an unbelievably clumsy challenge from Chamberlaine, and Webb was right in front of it. As an interesting aside, it might be better if Arsenal's attackers just try and track opposition runs while defending instead of diving in. Arshavin got pelters in the press for doing that (tracking and not risking a tackle) a few years ago against Man Utd (mainly by Gary Neville on Sky), but if both Podolski and Chamberlaine had simply tracked Suarez, blocking an angle for a shot and channeling him away then one of Arsenal's proper defenders (Koscielny or Mertesacker) could have dealt with it. Admittedly it looked like Suarez had already got away from Podolski, but even so I'm not sure it was at all necessary to try and tackle.

One big thing the game highlighted was how much Flamini was missed in the match at Anfield and the home match to Man Utd. Flamini is your key player as there is no one in the squad who can really play that role. Maybe Diaby could if he didnt lurch from injury to injury, and maybe this Kallestrom guy could if he wasnt also injured, but at the moment you would be lost without him. There is noone else with a ball winning, destructive (to the opposition) mentality in your midfield. Even if say Giroud got injured, although it would be a massive blow, you at least have options like Bendtner and Sagbo but there is no one at the moment who can fill Flamini's role. Arteta is not a destructive ball winner, he's a very good footballer, but a creative one, his positional sense and marking skills arent good enough to be a defensive player and he can get caught out (like vs Palace away). The same is true of Wilshire, an accomplished midfielder but not really a pure defensive one.
