Arsenal Thread

Great match today, really encouraging! I hoped the team would score more goals with all that possession and all the chances created, but I'll take the 2-0 (another clean sheet) any day.

Even Bendtner scored! Only to miss a sitter minutes later, of course
I was creaming myself at the prospect of seeing Özil and Cazorla exchanging passes, but it must be said that the best partnership has been Özil + Ramsey! As seen in our 2nd goal.

And the fact we were able to win so easily while resting a handful of players is also great. Finally we have that depth to rotate our squad and still pick up the points we need.

Meanwhile David Moe saw his United side losing at home to his former club. Rooney had been questioning Arsenal's credentials and said "let's see where they are in March". Well, back then when he said it they won and closed the gap to 5 points. Now they're 12 points behind. At this rate I suggest they pick up the pace, or else Rooney won't even see us on the horizon!

We've got 4 very difficult games ahead, but I think we can do well through this period. Cmon Arsenal!

I hope you guys can go the distance, would much rather see Arsenal take the crown ahead of the likes of Chelsea and City.

I agree, especially now that Godo said he d rather see Liverpool do well than United.. Sick n twisted those City fans.
One major reason why I'd hate to see Arsenal win it: that dumbass of a Piers Morgan won't be able to shut up about it for the next decade. Seriously England... please take him back.

We have to! If Arsenal does their 'homework' tomorrow, there will be a 7 point cushion. This will be essential to relieve some of the pressure of those end-of-year fixtures crammed all together. Points tend to be dropped during that period, plus we have difficult fixtures like Chelsea and Man City. So it's nice to play those matches with less pressure.

Anyway, first things first, there's Everton tomorrow and it won't be easy. I rate Martinez highly.

Everton are one of the best teams this seasons as verified by the table. They were resillient against United. This will be one of the toughest games of the season, but I think we should come away with a win.

Currently watching Arsenal- Everton. Splendid first 20 minutes by Everton.
I like their possession game.
I know they didn't create much, but i liked watching them.
This club deserved a top 4?

35% - 65% its ball possession in 30 minutes Everton its playing really good it makes you think they are playing home and they are 1st on table !

Everton made you look like Utd for 40 mins ;)

Good game. Barry playing well but what was that booking about? Wasn't a foul on Ozil earlier on either. To think we kept Garcia...

Enjoyable game. lol at Giroud at the end, great strike, but Everton wouldn't have deserved to have lost.

One criticism of Everton is that they didn't pick out Lukaku enough when they were in the final 3rd. He made some good runs time and time again but no-one picked him out

good weekend even w/ a draw. :)

Martinez has Everton playing some sterling stuff atm. Arsenal`s mental strength has matured. This was a game we most likely would of lost in the past. We withstood the storm and led the game and Giroud was getting a plastic statute build , until the ball hit the bar instead of the back of the net. 5pts is better then 2 pts ahead.

Next, Champion league game at Napoli and a win or a draw we finish on top of the group. :WORSHIP:

Lukaku was played out of the game by Koscielny.

With lots of fouls who weren't noticed by the ref... If Barry got a yellow, then Koscielny should have had a yellow for his challenge on Lukaku at the side line in the first half...

But all in all a logical result after a very good match...Arsenal were very, very good at the end of the first half...and this against a very good team...

Everton will certainly gets points against the other big clubs, so this isn't a point loss...in fact it's a good result.

Martinez has Everton playing better than they ever did with Moyes... So far. But it's really encouraging from them, and really positive football. I really enjoy Martinez's teams. I remember Wigan playing like Everton did against us at the Emirates! Pressing high up the pitch.

Or course that can only last for a while and they got tired. Arsenal were akin to marathonists, saved their breath for the crucial parts of the game. At the end of the first half Arsenal were all over them and most of the 2nd half was controlled by the Gunners.

I know Everton played admirably well and deserved something from the game but I can't help thinking it was 2 points dropped rather than 1 point won/fair result.

We were 1-nil up and had Flamini already on the pitch. We needed to shut up shop and weather the storm for less than 10 minutes and soak the pressure like we showed we can. Instead, we let in such an avoidable goal. Gibbs looked like a PES 2012 player marking the Everton striker - it was as if he wasn't even there, the ball went through him! Really poor one from Gibbs, and Sczcesny was awkard there as well. I don't want to point fingers now, but some of the very top keepers would have gotten a hand on that.

Giroud's strike would've been his best goal for us and it's such a shame it didn't go in!
Still, some positives to take out of it. Jenkinson filled in admirably for Bac for the 2nd time in a row, and Mertesacker once again shuts up his critics from the Ensligh press with a Per-fect performance :P

Arsenal is the silver lining for me at the moment, cause in Brazil my team got relegated today... after winning the League in 2012!!! You have to hand it to those guys... :COAT:

Today was an extremely sad day for Brazilian football. Fluminense and Vasco relegated, incidents and death at the latter's match against Paranaense...

I feel you, you know, my team has now been relegated for six months for the first time in their history (I think Flu is in the same situation if I'm not wrong), but now we managed to finish the year on the third position thanks to an AMAZING goal since Crucero del Norte tied today :)

Unfortunately, I support Flamengo in Brazil, so I don't know if laugh or cry with you xD

Anyway, we must keep cheering for Arsenal this season. Six or less months ago I would have never imagined they would manage to play in the way they do, not even close. Let's hope the streak goes on (and PLEASE, let's keep Giroud away from injury hazards until we get someone to back him up next month) and, who knows, we might end up holding silverware after ten years...

The guys who went to hospital will survive and recover. Fortunately there were no deaths, but this is no doubt a huge shame for the country where the next World Cup will be. Savages, barbarians... not enough words to despise those hooligans.

You must be happy for Flamengo because they won the Brasil Cup, so they got a place in the Libertadores. But amazingly they finished only 3 points ahead of Flu, who was the first team in the relegation zone. This league is very tight, but levelled at the bottom IMO, for lack of quality and being out of sync with European football - Flu lost Fred to injury, sold Thiago Neves and Wellington Nem, and Deco retired with injury problems, and as a result no quality reinforcements were available of course. The European window was closed.

It's not the first time we got relegated actually. But Flu will get back. I just hope some lessons were learned. Changing the coach who led the team to win the league in 2012 is unthinkable. And then they changed his substitute! They're not even thinking about how sacking a manager in the middle of the league will affect the team, and obviously the managers who will be available are sub-standard quality. They're available for a reason :P

I think clubs around the world have a lot to learn from Arsenal. Keeping Wenger all these years has been key to stability and now we seem to be back in contention again. Not to mention the move to the bigger stadium was only possible because of Wenger.

South American football, with all its short term thinking, should take many lessons. I'm sure Flu wouldn't get relegated if they didn't sack Abel Braga, but now there we go.

This is South America, where managers won't last more than two years at a club! You see, Miguel Ángel Brindisi took over with six matches to go and after Américo Gallego (who led us to our last league title in 2002 and an amazing 09/10 campaign with a total of 86 points, 43-43) got sacked for bad results. After we got relegated, he only laster other six matchdays, a total of two or three months!

Anyway, good luck down there, as a Fla fan and for the sake of South American football I wish the three teams relegated, all excellent teams, get promoted ASAP (Racing fans don't wish the same to us I think xD).

And finally, let's see how far Arsenal might get this season :)

Very similar case then! Changing managers with 6 matches to go! haha
Sometimes I think people running these football clubs know nothing about actual football, you know.

I get all confused with Argentine leagues, because you have Clausura and Apertura. And then there's an average of points from those two, isn't it?
So when you say Independiente spent 6 months in the 2nd division, what does it mean?

Yeah, we cheer on Arsenal knowing it puts things in perspective. I'm thankful that people running Arsenal aren't hot heads like the ones running South American clubs.
Having said that, Wenger needs (and deserves) silverware! Let's see what we will get from this season. So far, we have reasons to be optimistic :)
