Arsenal Thread

I feel we concentrate more defensively nowadays . Everybody tracks back , Not a single player ball watch. We're not clinical enough imo too many 2-1 around the box.

Sure? I saw brilliant attacks all along the match, not counter attacks, I mean, we managed to perform a very good pass-and-move play, looking for spaces and taking advantage of them.
I hope I can enjoy this version of Arsenal for the rest of the season.

bebo is completely right though. Arsenal has only been marginally better than the previous seasons, they've been miles more effective and has confidence which is apparent on the results and performances. If Arsenal can improve the defensive work even more, they will soon have a gap to the other teams which will be impossible to close. Offensively they are great atm and they have the luck they need, mind you luck is in many cases forced by actually being good as well.

Everybody else has been slightly or much worse than previous seasons, so this kinda reflects how marginal the differences are between the best teams in a top league. Arsenal has only brought in Özil and while he's been good he hasn't completely changed Arsenal on his own.

its a collection of things, Flamini added even further solidarity to a defence which had shown signs of becoming very solid with Mertesacker and Koscielny (Vermaelon was always a mistake waiting to happen IMO) and Ozil has added quality and confidence to the team without even mentioning Giroud going up a gear and Ramsay atleast two or three! and those two were players I think seemed the weakest out of that lot last season and now our probably the two stand out ones, Cazorla, Wilshere have shown how talented they are and its coming together finally.

The young players are maturing into world class players basically, credit to Wenger

I would genuinely love it if Wenger could win the league with a team that is on a fraction of City/Chelsea. Would be a great testament to the second best manager the prem has seen.

Flamini made the headlines for... cutting off his sleeves!
Also got involved in a row with kitman Vic Akers for it

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...utting-shirt-sleeves.html?ico=sport^headlines

Herbert Chapman introduced the white sleeves as a way for players to pick themselves out more easily in the field. Plus, there's this tradition, of the captain determining which type of sleeves the team uses for a match, and everybody has to wear the same. I didn't know this one.

Mathieu disrespected 2 traditions at once :P
Arsenal sleeves are not to be messed with!

Another good result, didn't play amazingly well again, but when we get forward we are always dangerous.

Ozil setting up two more goals today and Ramsey scoring two :DD

and another really good display by Szcz. He really is getting better and better.

great header by Ramsey , he don't celebrate and get applause even by Cardiff fans :WORSHIP:

and this was funny

He`s was being too honest :SMUG: he was offside ,but a lucky boy we won.

Cardiff is a tough ground, in the 2nd half they kept our midfield contained. Ramsey is just breath taking, he`s off to RM in the summer

Another great result. Keep em coming. You'll need a huge lead to fight off City of they click. Still far and away the best squad, if Pelligrini can sort out the away form, they won't drop many points this year.

Your overrating City Beach, they've been awful away from home and while that form will pick up they won't miraculously become the same force away from home.

Ramsay as a player is summing up Arsenal right now, when did this transformation happen?

We'll see. I can easily imagine City going on a 10 game winning run. They're the only team in the league this year that - if on song - will dictate the way every other team plays against them.

I'm with Beach, City are favourites for the title(but i want Arsenal to win it, well rather Spurs, but we all know better than that).

Will agree with that. As consistent as Arsenal has been, City is the only team that truly scares me with the flares of potential it has shown thus far.

It's still so close, we play Chelsea and Man City in December and we could drift down.

I fully expect Man United, Chelsea and Man City to go on good runs.

I also expect Spurs to get better and Liverpool are there, I really can't call it.

But I do agree if Man City click away from home they will be like a juggernaut.

Another fantastic display. This team continues its great away form and another clean sheet is very encouraging.
Mertesacker and Koscielny is a match made in heaven, while Gibbs and the already seasoned Sagna make our back 4 as strong and disciplined as I remember seeing from an Arsenal defence.

This game could have turned ugly if they had equalised, which they came close to if it hadn't been for Szczesny. But then again, Wilshere hit the post with that fantastic effort at 1' and Giroud didn't play to the whistle when he could have (although I prefer not having an illegal goal to tarnish the result). Not to mention we had like 60% possession.

So it was strange that we could have won 5-0 or drawn 1-1. It was more to Cardiff's credit for turning on the pressure early in the 2nd half. But overall Arsenal behaved extremely well.

Ramsey has me lost for words really! What a progress, I haven't seen anything quite like that - and he wasn't playing too bad for the last 10 matches or so last season.

Özil made 2 goals, nice to see our new assist king having a great match. And to see Flamini (of all people!) scoring.

Great result, but let's not believe the hype just yet. I'll begin to believe when we get decent results against the likes of City and Chelsea, and win or, worst case scenario, draw with United at the Emirates.

Well, we've scored something like 50 goals at home with a 100% record and about to kick off against Swansea who are without their front 2.

You know what's going to happen next...

We need to separate as much as possible from the group. We need to still be on top when dropping points. We can see every week the table change. Arsenal has been on top since September :)

Hull knocked Liverpool now! I think all this is too good to be true, I'm afraid one way or another we'll end up onn the fourth position again...

Fourth position I think not. It's impossible to predict who will come out on top, but for me it is w/o discussion that Chelsea, Man City, and Arsenal are the sole title contenders.

I wish for Liverpool to be succesul, but I don't think their points are a clear representation of their current footballing quality. I feel like they have some serious issues in terms of playmaking, pacing, and creativity in the midfield. They've really outdone themselves at the performances of Mignolet, Suarez, and Sturridge. Such steam can't last forever. For me the defeat against Hull was a defeat waiting to befall Liverpool, and Sturridge is out so that's another blow that will constrict the 'magic' they've been depending upon.

Manchester United aren't looking bad. Rooney is playing freaking phenomenal. And I believe Moyes can be succesful, but IMO SAF had this swuad overperforming their capacity year in and out. On paper, they were always a class below Chelsea and MC, and now also below Arsenal in a few departments. I just don't see them going all the way. Definitely Top 4 for me though.

Chelsea have a plain ridicilous squad, it should be illegal. And Mourinho is a cunning wolf. I don't like his playing mentality, but he does bring a force. Couldn't tell if Southhampton were to soft, but last week in the second half they got pulverized. A real impressive show of mental strength. Let's not forget that this is a team of winners. CL 2 years ago, UEFA last year (for me it was an important victory against Benfica). I just can't see them slipping away from the title challenge. IMO, they're favorites.

I think Manchester City will definitely be better off under Pellegrini. (Nothing to take away from Mancini. His championship was an amazing accomplishment). But this year they've suffered a bit too much, and they're showing they can fluctuate. They're really coming into form, and they will be there till the end imo.

Tottenham have some issues. Too many transfers makes it hard to creat good team chemistry. I wouldn't call for AVB's head, but I think the pressure is upto him to prove himself. Honestly, they should have been 4th last year so it is on him that they slipped that up.

I like Everton, but they're no where near title challengers.

Now for our gunners. The team is really playing fantastic. They're really on automatic it serms, I can't remember the last loss in the league. (AVL?) For me, this is no coincidence. The roster is really fantastic. And Ramsey is really on something this year. My only concern is if Ramsey's form drops that the team will suffer. But there is just so much talent that someone should surely step up to the plate. Honestly, I think Wenger should go for another purchase during the break. It can really make the difference between lifting the cup and coming in second.

Prediction:
1. Arsenal
2. Chelsea
3. Man City
4. Man United
5. Liverpool
6. Tottenham
7. Everton

I would expect Chelsea to win it, but I couldn't NOT put Arsenal on top. I'm hoping that Wenger and the guys pull it off.

I know it sounds weird, but we're just winning so easily that I'm paranoid it's a false spring and it will come crashing down.

I think if we can beat West Brom tonight the away form hoodoo could be over and we may well push on. It's obviously a mental hurdle atm rather than anything else. Kompany and Silva may be back as well.

Just hope Vinnie is over these injuries. It's strange because it's not a recurring injury, they're all different ones. Don't know if that's positive or negative :/

As for Arsenal, can't fault them. People keep writing them off but they keep going to difficult places like Cardiff and winning. What gives me hope is that under Sven we were in the top 4 in Jan and yet finished 9th. I also think back to that season when Arse were top (was it the season before we signed Nasri?) and yet faded and Chelsea under Scolari(?). ATM tho I can't see you losing. Can't even see you losing at our place in the upcoming fixture, sadly :(

Tonight we will rest Bac and play Jenkinson as RB. There might be other players rested too, but I hope the players don't take Hull lightly. Even if the game is at the Grove, which will make Hull even more cagey.

Wenger has just hit back poor criticism from the British press, dubbing some of them lazy - yeah, we're looking at Mark Lawrenson, Alan Hansen, et al. By saying their opinions and criticism lack substance, which I couldn't agree more.

As a matter of fact, when Mertesacker joined the Premiership those guys were saying he's too slow and not good enough for the Premier League. Those guys are so biased, it's uncanny! For them, John Terry isn't slow, and Cahil is the perfect CB. So I must say, there's nothing better than seeing Mertesacker going to Wembley as captain of the German NT and scoring the winning goal! I laugh at their faces
Per is vital to the organisation of our defence and alongside Koscielny forms one of the best CB pairings you'll see nowadays.

PS: the season Godoteli refers to must have been 2007/2008 when Arsenal were well ahead and looking like league winners, but the collapse started when that Birmingham butcher almost ripped Eduardo's leg off. It had an instanct impact on the team and we started dropping points in that very match, when Clichy gifted them an easy equaliser late in the game. Then we kept on dropping more points and missed Eduardo, who had been scoring frequently and looking really good. And we were left only with Adebayor and Bendtner. RVP was laying on the treatment table as per usual with his perenial injury woes (while getting paid handsome sums, of course). Gallas was our captain and did what he did... jeez, I don't even like to remember. But that season we finished 3rd and only 4 points behind the Champions. So I'd like to think that if we didn't lose Eduardo that way and if Gallas didn't rock the ship and ruined the dressing room atmosphere, we wouldn't let that title go. That team was well drilled, had that Flamini + Fabregas and Hleb partnership going on. That title was supposed to be Arsenal's.

Now we're in a similar position - and coincidence or not, Flamini is back with us!

Anyways, it's important this time around we don't let similar things happen. And a new striker in Jan is needed, Wenger must surely know this. I don't know for how long Giroud can play consecutive matches like that.

If we get through this month and the beginning of Jan we are in the same position with a few points gap the. I might start thinking we have a chance.

I still think we will struggle a lot against Chelsea and Man City coming up and will definitely drop points and I think their squads are much better/stronger than ours. I see them both as favorites at the moment.

But I am praying we can keep going! I am just glad we will be fighting for it until the end .....hopefully.

Think your midfield has better squad players. I really like out first 5 (Ferna, Yaya, Silva, Nasri, Navas) but the quality drops off quite a alarmingly after that. Milner is 50/50. Against Pizen he looked like a pub player but against Swansea he looked good. He's inconsistent like that
