Arsenal Thread

I'm still not sold on Zaha. He was woeful at the U21 tournamnet - which should be a stage for a player with his aspirations. Sense another loan deal ahead, or limited involvement like Ox.

its always a gamble w/ young players atm Arsenal has too many players loaned out in Spain Wellington, Campell, etc.

I meant to ask, did Arsenal end up signing Campbell from Costa Rica? I saw him last night against Mexico and he actually looked decent.

5 yrs contract since 2011. He was refuse a work permit and went to France (Lorient) then Real Betis. I don`t think he play much w/ NT.

Higuain and Nani maybe, I would welcome them both big time, especially if Nani is only around 8m it's worth a punt.

Then another def mid and we will be a lot stronger.

I just hope we wrap up some deals sooner rather than later.

And we have the coolest sounding Chairman Sir Chips Keswick!

Sad for Hillwood and the history the family have had with Arsenal, but I'm sure he will still be around and they have done some Amazing stuff for Arsenal and helped us grow into the club we are now. Hopefully we can progress further in the next couple of years and get back among the best.

This summer should be good......imagine if we didn't buy anyone

Jack is fully fit , he's like a new signing . I remember the ghost signing of a returning player . I expect a regular starting player to be sold before the window closes  Arsenal seem to sell 2 every season for 4 yrs .

I think Sagna is the only question mark at the moment.

Rumors of Barca wanting Koscielny, if Arsenal sell him and to Barcelona there will be a Bobby Spring and I will protest at the Emitates and I will take over!

If they decide Kos has that so called "Barca DNA" we're fucked.
The player himself should know that just 2-3 years ago he was a Ligue 2 player and now that things are going really well for him, he should stay put. Just look at Song and Fab, and decide if you want regular 1st team football (although I reckon he would get that at Barca too).

As for Nani, I'd take him in a heartbeat for just under 10m pounds. He's a technically gifted player who will eclipse the likes of Gervinho out of the squad.

Talk of Jovetic has gone cold, as the player himself said he'd love to join Juve.

Not much going on I guess...

Really?! Very bold claim, I don't see it but OK.

I think with the right signing's Arsenal can make themselves 'competitive' with the other three and possibly even challenge for the title but I think it would take 2 seasons with a lot of progress to get there.

So far there have been no indications this is any different to the last few summers for Arsenal except they don't really have a star player to sell.:P

Well, IMO this season is the real chance for Arsenal to go for it especially because the other "three" have a new manager.

Arsenal should take advantages of some of the changes at the other powerhouse clubs but I'm still not sure why so much faith is being put into the Higuian transfer. He is currently nowhere near RvP level as a striker and I'd almost argue Giroud might be better as well. What it will do is provide some much needed depth up front for you lot. I often feel Arsenal plays the most attractive football in the PL but it currently misses some balance across the pitch.

Jenkinson?---Kos---[signing]---Monreal

---------------[Fellaini]--------------

---------Cazorla----Wilshere---------

Walcott-------[Higuain]-------[signing]

Bench: GK, Sagna/Verma, Mertas, Arteta, Ox, Podolski, Giroud

That looks good to me

I think in Chelsea and Manchester City's case the new manager's are a positive, I think they've both got better managers then the ones who have left so I don't see either of those getting worse but instead doing better than last year.

We obviously lose Sir Alex but our squad is full of winners at this point, I don't see us going backwards, especially if we improve the squad.

If you supported a club that sold their best players every season for 3 - 4 season straight. You might understand Higuian (if really bought) is more of a change and hope. I think RVP coming back to the Emirates as a champion, made a statement and I pray we spend like we have NO Worries

Fair enough. Perhaps one of these days Gunners fans might see RvPs departure and statement about the direction of the club as one of the best things that could have happened. At least you haven't gone down into the Abyss like Pool, you re in a much better position to be top 3 competitive again soon.

I think Higuain its world class striker , and IMO he's on level of RvP and I would say even better since he has more years left , Higuain its very good he had some problems at Real last time but I still rate him more than Benzema who was a starter on Real Madrid , and I believe Arsenal has better team now than few season ago with RvP , I think now Asenal has a better team and create more chances so what they need is a world class striker like Higuain and they will be on fire next season !

Giroud ? not even near to Higuain quality ;)

Higuain on the same level as Van Persie?

In essence Higuain is arguably a better pure striker, RvP wasn't converted to the CF position until fairly late in his career, so in retrospect, it might be a dumb comparison. Different style, different positional history, different leagues. Think he'll be exciting to watch in every game that's not against United. :PIRATE:

Read a stat a while ago that stated that Higuain is the most clinical striker in europe (as measured by goals to shots ratio)

Up until around 2010 I thought he was arguably the best striker in the world. Since then I haven't been as impressed with him. Looked like injuries had taken some pace or agility out of his game but he still has a good goal record and Real have played him out of position in quite a few of the games I've seen him play.

He'll be a very good signing for Arsenal if he stays fit. 20 goals a season at least, imo

He's better than RVP at the same age, much better.
I'm not sure if will be better than RVP now, but he will be excellent. He is a much better player than Giroud.

Yeah I agree with Gerd, Higuain is a lot better than Van Persie was at his age. Also if you look at him for the Argentine national team he is very good, something like 20 goals in just over 30 matches. And he's scored very important goals for them too, the winner vs Germany (friendly pre WC2010), a hattrick that won the WC group game vs South Korea (would have been 1-1 otherwise) - only the 3rd Argentine to get a hatrick at a WC, the middle goal in the 3-1 win vs Mexico in the knockout WC game. For 2014 he's been just as important: a hattrick vs Chile at the start of WC2014 qualification and then the winning goal in the reverse fixture in October. Take away Higuain's goals in these qualifiers and Argentina could potentially have 22 points instead of 26 and might be behind Colombia and Chile (who would have gained 2pts by drawing twice vs Argentina) both on 23.

I think there are still issues with the financial cost (transfer fee and wages) of Fellaini - I dont think that is in the bag yet for Arsenal.

I really rate Fellaini. He'd be a great signing, and really make Arsenal significantly stronger.

While you'd lose a little bit of the midfield dominance of having 3 ball-playing mids, you'd gain a lot more in physicality, set pieces (attack and defence) and a plan B too.

But he should be seriously pricey, would be interesting to see if Arsenal would break their wage structure. He's probably on a massive wage at Everton now.
