Arsenal Thread

Given the strong rumours and Arsenal's promise to reinforce the squad, I'd put my money on us signing Jovetic and Julio Cesar in the beginning of June.

Rumours in Brazil about Julio joining Arsenal are strong.

I think its rumor mill doing its early rounds nothing more. We seem to buy another injury prone french striker on a free transfer :COAT:

This stevan bloke has 14 goals in 31 games sound too expensive , If we're going to break the bank it must be a proven scorer /w those numbers he' ll be a flop.

How can you judge Jovetic if you are saying you havent seen much from him and you are only looking at his statistics. That is not a proper judgment. He is an amazing player, in a club like Arsenal he could create a lot of goals by his own.

I don't believe he's coming at that price. He looks average and not a Wenger type of player. 14 goals cmon! Theo Walcott is not great but scores a lot more then that.

u know i love u man, but trust me on this, u're embarassing yourself. if u actualy had any idea of what player jovetic is, u would be having an orgasm at the mere idea he might consider signing for your team.

u don't judge a player like jovetic by his goals, as he's not a cf, so that's not the most important aspect of his game... besides scoring 14 goals in 31 games equals to a ratio of almost 0.5, wich is a fantastic result for a supporting striker (and to be fair it would also be an impressive result for a striker as most strikers in europe don't reach that average).....and let me also remark that scoring 14 goals in italy is very much different from scoring 14 goals in the epl.
also i hate to correct an arsenal fan about an arsenal player, but walcott definitely does NOT "score a lot more than that".... infact he's only scored more than 13 goals once in his entire carreer!

btw how can u not know jovetic? have u never watched fioretina this season (or the season before)? i know serie a is very much snubbed theese days (and with good reason imo), but come on, fiorentina was one of the few things worth watching in serie a this season...... and it's been unanimously labelled as one of the most entertaining teams to watch in europe!

u're a footie fan man! u're supposed to watch theese teams! :P and you're also supposed to know players like jovetic!! :DD

Plus it is not the same playing for Fiorentina that for Arsenal. He could eassily better those numbers playing on an offensive team like Arsenal.

If you're reading English papers' reports on Jovetic, forget it. I read the other day he would be spearheading Arsenal's attack... those people think he's a CF! He's not, he should play off a main striker.

I think Jovetic has what it takes. I've seen him 4 or 5 years ago for the first time, when he still had long hair and he impressed me instantly! He isn't the free scoring type of player. He contributes with assists and much more.

If you look at Dennis Bergkamp's scoring numbers, you'd get what I'm saying. Maybe he could be our next Bergkamp. No pressure :D

I think he fits the bill and he would fit like a glove at Arsenal, as long as Wenger balances his team and fixes his 4-3-3 system. It was working at the end of the season, but I know a player like Jovetic just won't work confined to the flanks. You have to give him freedom to roam. You know, everything they did to Arshavin, they shouldn't do to Jovetic. I hope a lesson was learned there.

Anyways, if Fiorentina's asking price is really something like £30m and they insist on that, we know Wenger too well...

I think his goal return would improve at Arsenal so I wouldn't worry to much regarding that front. He's only 23 so you would expect him to develop further under Wenger.

He can play up top and lead the line but expect him to also drop deep and involve himself in the build-up, a bit like van Persie does.

ouch ! OK POINT TAKEN. Im a Ljajic fan :) . btw Theo scored 14 in 32 games w/ 13 assist :) He scored a record 21 goals altogether which is massive for a 1 trick -pony. Anyways Fior is doing what Lille did ,by getting clubs to look at all the fuss and get the highest bidder. So, once figures of 25m is being spoken of I know we ate biting.

completely agree with everything u wrote here. however keep in mind jovetic is quickly evolving into something more than a pure supporting striker. last season he bulked up quite a lot. if u compare a picture of him from 2 seasons ago with a current one, he's much more muscular now (wich is quite natural as he's still growing up)... he's also becoming a much more serious scoring threat. at this stage in his carreer, there's no saying what he will eventually develop into (a cf a la ronaldo, a universal offensive player a la ibrahimovic or a supporting striker).

anyway fiorentina's asking price is 30 million euros, not pounds (it's about 25 M pounds), wich is actually a pretty reasonable price. of course if a bidding war were to blow up, the price would get much higher, but i doubt that'll happen (european clubs never start bidding wars on big players ike jovetic, as the starting price is already pretty high).

that's how italian, french and german midclass clubs survive. theese clubs don't have the same high steady incomes big clubs such as arsenal can count on (tv rights and merchandising) so their only way to generate big revenues is to make capital gains on the players. fiorentina itself is doing this since the days of baggio's departure.:))

his numbers will definitely improve in the future, as he's still developing and getting better each year.... but i don't think playing for arsenal would make much of a difference. infact one might argue that fiorentina's football is much more offensive than arsenal's and that offers more scoring chances to its offensive players.;)

@lo zio. I agree , but Arsenal sold many players recently w/o a bidding war. They offered a price they couldn't refuse. They live like every player has its price. As an Arsenal supporter I refuse to get excited about any player . We have history of settling on a player we lost to another club :( So my views on a high profile player are crocodile tears.

I think we will strengthen quite a bit this summer, but I think Man City and Chelsea (chelseas attack will be friehtening if falcao joins) will strengthen BIG TIME! Man united will always be up there and Tottenham will be stronger with or without Bale (they will use the money from bale to really improve their squad if he leaves).

Liverpool will be stronger and I think Newcastle as well.

So although we will have a better team/squad a lot of teams around us will be improving somewhat as well.

I just hope we buy the right players and they gel well with the team that is key.

I'm really looking forward to next season! :-D

 Brilliant.

I think your being a bit misinformed Gerd, I don't think there's even an Arsenal fan who likes Piers and his constant moaning.

Haha hilarious . Piers Morgan is such a tool. (Seriously England..stop migrating all your idiots to the states. Thanks) At least he was man enough to see the humor in it.

Van Persie proving once again how big of a cunt he is. Not saying I like Morgan, he's an idiot, but it's pathetic that Van Persie did it.

Piers Morgan is a twat and Van Persie is an arsehole. Or is it the other way around?
By going the distance of actually signing a poster, having it framed and delivered to Piers Morgan, RvP just shows what a petty little man he is.
He wasn't that cocky when he used to spend 70% of his career injured, was he? Now that his luck changed, he could have chosen to have a gracious attitude and stay above most things and just ignore people like Piers Morgan. But some people just cannot enjoy things with a tiny bit of class.

When or if Jovetic signs, I think he can play together with Giroud. Why not? Giroud is a power centre forward. There's Walcott and Podolski in contention too, so would be interesting to see what Wenger does. I think a change of system/formation would be in order.
