Arsenal Thread

I'm 99.9% confident that he's coming, all signs point to it. The 0.1% is only there because it's us we're talking about here.

EDIT:

Wonder where mister Higuaín is going?

Turns out those pictures are actually him arriving in Madrid, but pretty much every Argentine and Spanish newspaper is saying he'll fly to London either tonight or tomorrow.

Higua in, Higua out, Higua in...? What a soap opera this thing has become (another one for our collection). Apparently this time around Madrid had to wait until Carlo Ancelotti arrived and sanctioned the deal.

I'm wondering how our squad would behave with this addition and especially what Giroud would think of that. It's a bit harsh on him, such a hard worker, who had not bad a debut season.

But in the end... Hell, if we can, why not? We need a stronger squad, that's for sure.

if we want to win titles, girud is not the man to lead the line

I agree with you, but he needs more time to adjust. Nowadays players are judged too quick. Arsenal should certainly go for Higuain but Giroud could still be a very usefull player in the future.

Your making out as if Giroud has no chance now, he only has one player in front of him now, that's healthy competition IMO

either he sinks or swims and proves his worth and fights for his minutes.

That is entirely your conclusion and that conclusion is totally wrong.
I wasn't referring to playing time but to the fans' reaction about new players. IMO one can't judge a player in one season. Some players need more time to adpat than others. Since we are in Arsenal thread, don't you think that the Italian club who let Henry go (was it Juve ?) would keep him if they would have known what a fantastic player Henry turned out to be.

It seems as if the glass is always half empty: Giroud isn't good enough in his first season and Benteke's first season is also considered a fluke...

What is happening that only the big names get some credit and even they are judged harshly. You only have to read the reactions about Neymar before the Confederations Cup...i wonder if those people still have the sameprejudice about him. It could well be that he will never be a good transfer for Barcelona, but that is highly improbable...Just give those players some credit.

5 or 6 years ago there were people on this forum who had a very negative judgement about Xavi, they said that Xavi alone was responsable for the Barcelona's bad patch at the time...luckily the club had more fate in him.

But since you mention playing time, do you think it's normal that Wenger played the likes of Walcott and Gervinho as a CF while having Giroud ? Do you think it's normal that a o never saw one match where Park started for Arsenal ?

Therefore the fact that Higuain will be expensive is a good thing, he will get enough chances to adapt.

They will both get games IMO and we will be much better off for it. I think Giroud will be better this season and if he is injured or vice versa we have back up. I expect Higuain to be first choice but it wouldn't surprise me to see Giroud step up and make it hard for Higuin to keep his place.

I do Gerd because I think Wenger is a manager who knows what he's doing, Walcott has some advantages upfront compared to Giroud. I don't see the problem with Wenger trying different systems and options even if the end up not working like Gervinho.

It always takes some players a year to settle down, with Higuain coming in maybe Giroud will surprise everyone no longer being 'Van Persie's replacement' and the pressure of being the shiny new signing who has to deliver, maybe all these things will be the making of him, we'll see.

Giroud is not a flair type of player, but he's very useful. We played really well with him upfront being the focal point. He wins headers, chests it down, holds possession well in times of pressure. Not to mention he defends corners really well.
His stats: 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. That's not too bad at all for a first season.

I was getting excited about the player toward the end of season. I hope he settles in even more and improves on that.

If Higuain does come, I won't complain though!

I also think Giroud did well. Had he played more at the beginning of the season, he would have adapted sooner (well, i have a feeling that after some matches he played less, maybe that is just an impression).

Younggun. I'm a huge fan of Wenger. He changed English football with his player development, he cahnged the diet of his players, prepared them...he is arguably one of the most important managers ever in English football.

But he isn't the tactical wizzard and IMO lately he has made mistakes (Park being the most Obvious, why buy a player and never give him a chance ?). I have a feeling that now that all the other teams have caught up with his methods, he isn't the outstanding manager anymore...but who am i to judge somebody like Wenger...

All manager's have the odd moment of madness, Sir Alex signed Bebe, it doesn't take anything away from them though.

I was a bit bored so I decided to draw this up. This is place is pretty dead lately anyways so. What do you guys think of such a roster and formation?

Giroud
Podolski---Cazorla--Higuain
Wilshere-Fellaini
Nacho-Koscielny-Mertesacker-Carl
Julio Cesar

Also throw Walcott, Arteta, Ox, Rosicky, Ramsey, Gervinho, and Bendtner(!) into the mix. (I doubt Wenger will bench Walcott, but I prefer the starting eleven that I put up there.)

Also, I initially thought Fellaini was developing into a more attacking midfielder, but some of the guys here mentioned him as a box-to-box type defensive mid. Some clarification would be nice, since I've only watched him a few times a long while back (I did rate him pretty good though).

Fellaini is definitely a box-to-box type of player.
About Higuain, Florentino Perez said he wouldn't let him leave so I guess Walcott will take his place in your formation.

And what about Jenkison ?
Is he really that good to be a starter ?

A wanted player is more valuable then an unwanted player. I think its a backlash for Suarez bid. Arsenal can bully smaller clubs ,but RM is a grave mistake , their egos are much more dangerous. To bid £30m is telling RM we have the money to get Higuian . Who knows why Liverpool made this public unless they feel they don't want to be a part of this game of wits .

Theo is no striker not in this life nor the next, neither is Pol and Jenkins is a good squad player that needs experience .

Fellaini is essentially a defensive midfielder. That is also the role he sees for himself. He is quite clear about that.

Don't get too excited about Higuain, guys. Apparently Florentino Perez said yesterday there was no offer from Arsenal at all, and that he doesn't want to let him go, etc.
I really don't know what's going on, or who to believe, and I won't get worked up about it this summer. I've made myself that promise :)

Truth be told, I'd rather see us strengthen our midfield by signing Fellaini. That's where the focus should be.
Our attack performed really well last season and I think Giroud can offer us a lot, with Sanogo as an option from the bench.

Also, keeper wise we're short and we need a signing there too.

Maybe to rise Higuain's price. A backlash effect from Suarez bid for us.

Getting a little tired of Perez running his mouth every opportunity he gets.

Apparently we've had a bid for Lars Bender rejected. Wenger is definitely looking at the right type of midfielders. It was a nice option, since Fellaini seems tricky to get.

The Luis Suarez bid was a shock to me, maybe all just smoke screen and a way to send a message to Madrid?
Maybe it was so, because if the figure is accurate (£30m bid) it would never be enough to buy a guy who went to Liverpool for around £20m and more than doubled his market value by becoming one of Premier League's most prolific goal scorers.

I read that Arsenal went back to up the bid to £35m , I don`t see it. We can never underestimate the power of an agent  to blow up a story.

I wonder why Higuain`s family gone quiet . I can`t imagine they feeding lies to the media for the sake of it. Perez said €27m bid was never offered. I think the fact that Higuain spoke after the last match this was his last game under RM. This gave Arsene hope of a cheaper option to Jovetic.

I think Arsenal are just throwing bids w/o any hope of getting the player. Its like disturbing the hornet`s net to see what happens in the market.

so Arsenal its behind 3 world class strikers , Suarez , Rooney and Higuain , dont get surprised after you wont get any of them and will have a panic buy at the end of season !

give the damn 27 mil to RM for Higuain , then you gonna be one of fav to win EPL , dont make Perez upset with silly offers for Suarez because then he wont even sell Higuain to you guys , Perez and RM have power ;)

I don't get worked up about Higuain and freaking Perez, let him have it. I think Giroud will be great for us next season and it may be a crying shame if Wenger has to leave him on the bench.

We need a holding midfielder like he seems to be trying. Plus the keeper, which is disturbing how we're not even trying to sign one and the stories about Julio Cesar have gone quiet.

Anything more than that, including strikers, will be a bonus for me.

Then again, of course Wenger is thinking ahead by pursuing strikers. I think he finally lost his faith in the likes of Gervinho.

We need another striker when Giroud can't play or to rotate/try something different.

So many conflicting stories you don't know what is true anymore. I am just waiting to see what happens. It looks like we are looking for players and willing to spend some money, let's hope it happens.

Am I the only who doesn't care about a possible Cesc return. I feel like of all the significant departures, we suffered the least from his. I would say Song's and even Nasri's departures have bern much more hard-felt where as we've had a relative easy time filling Cesc's gap with Arteta, Wilshere, etc.

I would like to see him back.

imagine if we got him and Fellaini.

midfield of those two and Cazorla (Wilshere, Arteta and Rosicky to throw into the mix) with Higuain/Giroud etc

unfortunately for that to happen we would need to spend around 75m at least (maybe we could get them three for that amount actually?) and we need another defender and goalkeeper and I would say another attacking wide forward, especially if Gervinho goes.

It could be Sexy though........or Cescy....... ;))
