Arsenal Thread

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Congratulations to the Arsenal players. They played their hearts out but in the end it was too much. Barca deserved it for their persistance but I thought it was an amazing display by our boys against supposedly the best team in the world. That could have gone either way in the end, the thought of that seemed a million miles away at 18 mins in.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

hard lines gooners, felt sorry for you and if henry had taken that chance in the 2nd half it'd have been game over

mind you don't feel sorry for wenger, saw barca were offside for the sending off & the equaliser but never saw the blatant dive for the free kick leading to arsenals goal, typical of him

add to this his comments from a year ago

UEFA are set to dash Liverpool's hopes of defending the trophy should they beat the Italian giants in Istanbul on May 25 but finish outside the Premiership top four.

But Arsenal's French manager - who has yet to guide the north London club to a European trophy since arriving at Highbury in 1996 - said Liverpool were fortunate to be in this season's Champions League at all after only finishing fourth in the Premiership last term.

"Normally they should not have played in this cup. They are already lucky to be in it because of the advantage this country has in having four qualifying places," Wenger said"

"Most countries have only three places, so they already had an advantage in qualifying last season after finishing fourth," he added on Friday.

ok then arsene, are you going to give up your place in next years competition?

And Wenger was adamant that if Everton finished fourth they should be allowed to compete in the Champions League and not be 'knocked out' by Liverpool.

"I feel the rules were clear at the beginning of the season so it was very difficult to change. You cannot knock Everton out of it," he said.

oh i see, so it's ok for everton to finish 4th (and no doubt arsenal finishing 4th this season) and qualify but liverpool finishing 4th in 03/04 were lucky to qualify for the competition we went on to win

Wenger said the Champions League, which in the days of the European Cup was restricted to the holders and the continent's national champions alone, was becoming more of a lottery than a test of excellence.

"The Champions League has now completely become a cup competition (without a second group stage)," added Wenger, whose side face holders United in the FA Cup final on May 21.

"Everybody can win it. Last year you had Porto and Monaco. Every year you will have two different teams in the final because it is so open.

"It's like last year, when Millwall were in the FA Cup final. Next year, you could have Coventry.

the european cup is now a cup competition? well fuck me when did that happen?
well at least it gives a chance for another shit team to reach the final next season

* i've picked the quotes that suit my scouse biased argument but the full interview can be found here

anyway gotta go now cos there's a programme on sky 1 in 5 minutes called "ONE NIGHT IN MAY" about our 5th European Cup victory in Istanbul

Good fight from your lot but they were just too strong. I dont have a clue what Henry was on about when asked at the end of the game : "Did the best team win" and he replies with a firm "NO" :lmao:

There was some definate dodgy decisions made in the game, the whole Eto'o/Lehmann foul, Barca scoring, free kick given. Then Eboue going down when it seemed there was no contact at all to set up the goal, but in the end justice prevailed.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

replay shows Eboue got hit on the chest w/puyol elbow not on purpose, everyone looks at leg and foot....even if you see replays you f__ks will till say the same

Its still not a foul in which resulted in the goal, In a game where Barca should have been 1-0 up already

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

YEAH! SAME OLD ARSENAL ALWAYS CHEATING!

The best team won tonight - COME ON BARCA! LEAGUES apart!

Fair play to Ashley - "We lost the game tonight - no need for all the excuses. Onwards and upwards now."

Why don't you go open a new thead about your mingin' ho u cunt.

You're a cunt when we win, and you're a cunt when we lose.

I know we lost, but to have to see you put 3 posts in 2 pages which everyone tries to ignore is just too much for me tonight.

I would have loved to see any team play 70mins of a game with 10 men, against a team of Barcelona's calibre. We lost in the end - It wasn't a great spectacle for an Arsenal fan to watch, but i'm glad i did. I was proud of the boys today, they did their best, but in the end, it was just one ask to many.

Lehmann's sending off was right, and there was nothing else we can do about it now. Maybe if the referee gave a yellow and let the goal stand is something between here and there.

We need to consolidate, and move forward. Here's to success in the Emirates Stadium!

Come on Arsenal!!!

Eboue dived. But Lehmann shouldn't have been sent off, the advantage should have been played. In the end, it wasn't meant to be.

took me ages to cut the quotes to my agenda, suprised just how quickly arsene forgot about it

maybe i'd be able to get a job with one of the tabloids and spew some anti cockney/manc bullshit ;)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

I'm looking on the bright side. I work with an Arse fan and at least he'll be at work today (if you'd won he'd be totally pissed). I won't have to cover for him.

Hard luck anyway. Think back to the start of the season. Did you think you were going to win it? You'll be stronger next year (maybe)

Respect to the gunners Ice, I felt for you tonight and you are 110% right about Ninja and the stench he leaves behind., the guy is a fool, try to take no notice as most of us don't rise to the bait.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

To continually let ninjabreakz know he is a cunt is to keep reminding a terminally ill kid about their fatal sickness; it's medically proven but there's no point.

The refereeing in this game was shit. For Arsenal fans, for Barca fans, for neutrals. The first goal by Giuly should have stood and the referee should have kept in mind the spectacle that had been set up. You can understand his decision in the moment though, but he continued to embarass himself further and further as the game went on.

Last night, I was thinking of all the 'what ifs...'. Henry's scoring chances, Eto'o's marginally offside goal, 90 minutes of 11v11 etc. but it doesn't matter and if it was ever possible, I am even prouder to be a gooner now.

Well done to Barca. They had the upperhand, and with Iniesta & Larsson, it seemed three more players, but they still did the job.

Cheated on an early goal and Arsenal were CRAP second-half!

NO EUROPEAN cup for London - the NORTH STILL RULES!

what a fukn douchebag

most teams would have lost 5-1 against that barca team having played with 10 men for most of the match.

your the kind of piece of shit i enjoy kicking the shit out of and then watching over you when you're crying for your mum.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

I think the excuses are abit excessive with Arsenal. Ok you were abit unlukcy to get man sent off since they could of played advantage, but he didnt and lehnmann did foul the player and the ref only went by the rules of the game. But still i hear Wenger try and desperatly claim Eto's goal was offside when you couldnt even tell cuz it was so tight, maybe his toe was offside but it was a difficult call for anyone watching and ultimatly i dont thik it was offside.

Why cant these London clubs just lose with grace instead of all the unfair talk like 'the referree was bad' and 'the whole world is against us' Dont get me wrong I would of liked it better if Arsenal won although i wouldnt of heard the end of it, but they didnt and Barca deserved to win in the end.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

considering what happened last night, iam 100% guarenteed that henry will stay with arsenal. barca have definitely been the best team in europe and deserve their win on merit, but the way how arsenal lost last night will persuade henry to stay. He knows and i think most of the people in the world know that despite losing a match to the best team in europe with 10 men and a few dodgy ref decisions....this is the start of arsenal team!! cole is probably the best LB in the world at only 25, toure and eboue are surging up their and fabregas, hleb, senderos and reyes can only get better!! and theres also the small question of theo!!

forget last night people, this team is inevitably going to get better and better and IMO exceed the previous wenger teams!!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Unlucky Gooners you did all you could...personally I didn't want you to win because of Arsehole Wrangler the way he dismissed Liverpool's success last year comparing it to Millwall was an insult to the club, also the fact that he's been a hypocrite on a few occasions. I felt sorry for Bergkamp, Pires, Lehmann and Henry I would have wanted Arsenal to win it just for these players.

My premonition* is freekick to Arsenal by the right corner flag with Eboue getting fouled. Henry takes it, and in comes Pires at the far post to head the ball into the ground, and it goes into the roof of the net.

With Barca pressing, we get a second when Henry just strips the whole defence when Fabregas plays a through-ball.

Then in the second half, Eboue misjudges a header, and Roanldinho sneaks through and hammers it in the roof of the net, with Toure just missing the tackle.

Arsenal hang on, and we win 2-1!!!! Happy Happy Joy Joy!

(*This was actually my game this morning on we10 before work, not a premonition! :D:D:D)

I don't see that this has been edited, but jeez that 1st goal premonition (apart from the scorer though) is pretty darn scary. And you nearly got the Henry thing right too.

 LOL @ Ninja jibes. The guy is like one of them smelly farts you do and it seems to get trapped in your trousers and refuses to come out, and annoys you.

As for the game, Arsenal where really unlucky, the sending off was a huge mistake for me, he should've played on and left it at that, as for Henry's moans, I don't think they are justified, the ref made some howlers on both teams.

Thought your defence was terrific, I thought it wasn't really that great and would be shown up against Barca but they coped really well, thought Henry played well considering he had a lot to take on too.

I do feel for some of ya losing a European final though, but don't want to yank yer chain too much as I did really want Barca to win strongly for numerous reasons.

The good thing is that Henry by his comments may seem to suggest that he's staying.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Just thought I'd qoute this guy from Skysports.com. He is spot on.

I thought the game was excellent - the way a final should be played. I was disgusted with Lehmann's blatant foul and I think the sending off was not really punishment enough! Even worse was the fact that Campbell post-match stood up for his goalkeeper, saying he did the right thing - I don't think players from a team should advocate cheating when other players from the same team who are contradicting and whining about decisions not going their way. Henry also needs to grow up. The reason he is so upset is because he knows he missed enough scoreable chances to ensure an Arsenal victory - but he did not perform well on the night - and for every decision against him, there was also one against Barca - not to mention some of the discusting fouls commited by Eboue and Toure. In all, the better team won on the night and Arsenal just showed their true cheating childlike colours - they just don't know how to accept when things don't go there way - arrogance has no home in football.

With a rye smile ive gotta say im gutted for you's, I canny imagine what it feels like to lose in a final, but you's got there and that cant be taken away.

Dissapointed with Henry last night, both in terms of playing and his comments afterwards.

I think Cole is the only one to come out with dignity intact.

But its easy for me to say that, I still feel hard done to about a goal we had disallowed against porto a few years ago so god knows how the arsenal players feel today.

now its all about the henry staying/going saga....

tough loss, for anyone of you planning on getting HD for the world cup, DO IT. WE had the CL final broadcasted in HD here in the states and it was simpley AWESEOME!!!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Lighten up! I always congrat Arsenal when they are the better team!

They were the second-best team last night and that nut-case Lehman proved he is a risky card in big matches.

Well if they weren't the best team, there is a huge possibility that they'd be the 2nd best team in a two-way contest. ;)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Unlucky Arsenal couldn't win the uefa cup a few years back now this...

But yeah Eboue dived and ref was all round poor for both teams.

Henry should have buried those chances, good tactics by rijkaard,
Larsson brought much more intelligence to the play.

Eto's goal was touch & go, pretty much like Crouch's disallowed
goal last saturday.

As for Henry decisions, decisons to be made.
