Arsenal Thread

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Highbury RIP

On the radio this morning they are now saying it is suspected that they had a viral infection, hence why no else in the hotel had the illness.

good to see the FA denied spurtz request...

one things been bothering me though, how come in a hotel full of people only spurtz players got sick?

Heard on Sky van that the Spurs players ate away from the other hotel guests in a private area, with a completely different menu from the rest of the hotel.

Personally, i think the Squirrel shat in the Lasagne! :D

Wow, you had a good seat Clocky. It's stupid I know but these kind of photos do make me a bit teary. That warm sense of familiarity is going to take a long time to replace. Arsenal = Highbury for me. I guess it's really only now that it dawns on you that there will NEVER be another game on that imacculate green pitch. :(

Incidentally, I've only ever sat in the North Bank and seeing the view from another angle is actually quite mad. Those big heads were rubbish tho weren't they?

I sat in every stand bar the West Upper so I feel that's an achievement. I know what you mean about getting emotional seeing the pictures, I had a lump in my throat when I left the old place after the Spuds game.

As for the pitch the one at the new ground is going to be better apparently, only time will tell.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Highbury RIP

Yeah my seat was good but it needed to be a bit further back as I used to get soaked when it rained!! Sitting down the side in the East Lower at Emirates so everything is going to be different.

Sunday was sad but we gotta move on, it will take time but in a few seasons when we have won the Champions League and Premiership for the third year running Highbury will be but a distant memory!! :p

Food not to blame for Spurs sickness

Thursday May 11 2006

Tottenham have been told that a stomach virus caused the sickness in their squad ahead of the West Ham game on Sunday.

Scientific tests have shown that there was nothing wrong with the food eaten by the Spurs players at the Marriott Hotel in Canary Wharf - it was just a stomach bug.

The club had been threatening to sue the East London hotel after several players - including Michael Carrick - were struck down with sickness that left them vomiting until the kick-off of the game at Upton Park.

Spurs lost the game 2-1 and were ousted from fourth spot by Arsenal, leaving the chairman Daniel Levy requesting that their game against the Hammers was replayed.

The Premier League understandably rejected their cheeky request and Levy reacted to the appeal decision with dismay, saying he despaired at the state of the rules which did not take into account such matters as food poisoning.

He said: "We are disappointed, but not surprised. We continue to feel justifiably aggrieved at the course of events and remain convinced that the game should never have been played.

"If the loss of over half a selected squad to an inexplicable illness in highly suspect circumstances does not warrant the postponement of a match, then I can only despair at the state of our governing rules."

But now it seems that those 'highly suspect circumstances' were not so highly suspect after all.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Highbury RIP

The squirrel today moved from Highbury in what was an emotional goodbye.

And in other news:

Doctors now fear the mysterious illness suffered by members of Tottenham's first team before the crucial West Ham game was actually severe sunstroke and not food poisoning as first suspected.

Although they have said it's nothing to worry about, the Doctors say they will make a full recovery as they return to living under Arsenal's shadow.

I read this interview in a newspaper from Henry where he talked about the stadium. Very interesting read.
One of the things he said was that when he first joined Arsenal and had a tour of Highbury, he understood why English fans are so passionate about their club and their stadiums. Unlike in other countries where everything is fancy and "high tech", Highbury has kept its old fashioned look and it gave him goosebumps everytime he walk around the area. If this was Italy, no one would have cared if their stadium was shutting down.

How Joystick felt was natural cuz thats how people here feel about the club. Well said by Henry.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

2 days chaps!! Its going to go sooooo slowly. Sitting here at work all I can think about is Wednesday!! I have lived all my Gooner life for this moment!

Come on!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

i'm so excited, i feel like a spurs player (tummy trouble)

Heard reports that this could be the last we see of Henry, Pires and Arsehole Cole. I don't give a feck about the latter, and Pires needs to find the form of 3 seasons ago when he did in his knee. Henry, well you know how all Goons feel about the Maestro. :)

Henry is probably staying. The club means more to him than people think. I think he's only delaying his decision so that once he announces that he's staying, it'll give the rest of the team a huge boost.

He should do it before CL kickoff then

Which reminds me of another possible reason. By not letting his teammates know whether or not he's saying, the team now have an extra reason to be at their best, knowing a win might convince Henry to stay.

I just dont see why he'd keep it a secret if he was leaving.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

He'd definetely keep it as a secret if he had already signed with Barcelona, don't you think? ;)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

I can't wait until 2morrow!! I feel very sick at the moment and I can't seem to stop thinking about it!

I am going to the pub tommorrow, but most of my closest friends support either tottenham or Liverpool and they have all agreed to wear Barcelona Shirts - which I think is totally out of order, big time! I'm quite pissed off about it actually.

But I just hope we win then I can shove it back in their faces! I wanted Liverpool to win last year and even though I wouldn't really want Spurs to win the Champions league, I wouldn't wear the oppositions Shirt.

On the Henry front - I think he will be leaving, so all I care about is him being amazing tommorow lifting the cup and giving Arsenal a fantastic goodbye.

Then we can have Van Persie and Walcott up front and have a new generation of Striker for the opposition to be scared of and the Arsenal fans to worship.

COME ON ARSENAL!!!

Don't be pissed off about their shirts, sounds like they are getting the reaction from you that they want. Don't say a word when you see them and then give them shit if we win!

I really don't know about Thierry, but I agree when you say that if he wins us the Cup tomorrow then it will make his departure a little easier to take.

I have kept my anger at bay. I said it was out of order. But I said I didn't really care...Even though I do.

But it will be so sweet when we win!!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Henry is NOT leaving.....If i`m wrong I will jump in a lake in Florida.....I promise.NUFF Said!! Don`t mention it no more picks

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

hmmm if arsenal win, celtic have to qualify for the CL. If Barca win, Celtic automatically go through! :)

On another downer, Messi is fit. Arsehole Cole is going to have his hands full tomorrow night! (no pun intended!)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Messi starts tomorrow? Uh oh...not helping the English cause. Though I doubt he'll be at his best given he's nto played a competitive match in months. Still, he is pretty frightening. Should be such a good match, so up for it!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Paris here we come!!

Will there definately be a parade even if we lose? Most of the road up to the town hall is boarded off now. If there is a parade I get the day off 6th form cos both of my colleges are on the road where it takes place.
