Arsenal Thread

I think this is not the real REAL Eboue. Still brilliant though

We need a keeper indeed, with all our dodgy keepers leaving. I still had some faith in Mannone though.

M'Vila being confirmed, I can say I like the business we're doing so far. Exactly the positions we needed to fill.

But the next signings will depend on our league position finish. I'm worried about this WBA away game, given our Norwich performance...

We don't have Bac Sagna. Who should play RB? Coq? Or maybe move Gibbs to the right and play Santos as a starter?

mVILLA is not confirmed until its announced here http://www.arsenal.com/home.

i'd be shocked if we pulled that off. We barely pull off one decent read made player per transfer, now 2? na doubt it.

Whens the last time arsenal bought two read made players at their peak?

Probably Nasri and Arshavin in 2008/09, although Nasri was 21 and M'Vila is 21 so I wouldn't say either are/were at their peak, although undoubtably talented.

It's not confirmed yet, but I think it's quite possible.

As for the signings, come on Jonney, dig deep :D
How about Mertesacker, Arteta and Santos? Those guys are pretty much at their peak and they're as ready as can be!

I really think we can sign more guys like these, as hopefully the board and AW saw the error of their ways. Plus a complete overhaul is in order IMO, we still have to ship out Vela, Bendtner, Denilson, et al.

M'Vila would make Denilson definitely surplus to requirements. Whereas Vela and Bendtner might be replaced just by bringing back Miyachi and Joel Campbell.

I saw Vela speaking about how much he'd love to make his stay in San Sebastian a permanent one. Can't blame him, it's beautiful there!

It's up to Sociedad to make a move for him though. We'll see what happens there.

I believe M'vila only because Arsenal came and deny it....them lots are sneaky I believe norhing they say. Nasri n Fab won't leave....then Fab was force to go back to London lol. I remember podolski saying he was going to Lazio lol. Arsenal does not fancy early submission.

There is in-house business that needs sorting out! Way before annoucing such business. We need a win at the weekend foremost.

Song vs M'Vila:

Tackles 92-111; Interceptions 65-91; Fouls 71-30; Clearances 40-64; Total Shots Blocked 4-9; Goals+Assists 11-2;

Song vs M'Vila:

Tackles 92-111; Interceptions 65-91; Fouls 71-30; Clearances 40-64; Total Shots Blocked 4-9; Goals+Assists 11-2;

You can't compare two players who play for different clubs, in different competitions. M'Vila is the type of player Arsenal needs for years now, but right at the moment, i'm not sure if they need him. Good player though...

I keep thinking about us losing at the weekend and Spurs and Newcastle winning and freaking out!

The players need to play like this is the Super cup of cups!

hopefully they do it for Pat Rice, he is a legend. The amount of time he has given to Arsenal (he got paid obviously :PP) but we have had alot of success with him around as a player and as Assistant.

Fingers crossed Bouldy can take over well...and sort our defence out!

Such a big game on Sunday!!!!!!

Big big game indeed. I just hope the players take it seriously and don't panic. I expect WBA to be reliant on counter-attacks. They will have seen already how kamikaze Arsenal is going forward, and know we leave gaps at the back.

What pisses me off is to see Vermaelen and Song bombing forward like we needed a goal at the 90th minute... when in truth, as to what happened against Norwich, we were leading 1-0!!

I've been seeing casualness and irresponsibility in the way the team attacks. Also they've taken Norwich and Wigan lightly. That was clear.
Any Premier League team worth their salt will punish us when we play like that. Even WBA who don't have anything to play for.

Cup final indeed!! Even though I'm not sure it would be beneficial if Wenger actually uttered the words "Cup" and "final" in the dressing room. Would that spark a collapse like that against Birmingham? :P

Yup completely agree. HUGE match indeed! For all these clubs! Gotta say I'm really looking forward to this final weekend of fixtures.

I think Newcastle will drop points against Everton who wanna finish strong at home and finish ahead of Liverpool! Maybe a draw there. But I think Spurs will win and so you guys need to as well.

WBA will be in buoyant mood as well though and kinda celebrating a Roy Hodgson day as he leaves to take over England. Maybe that is a distraction for them or maybe they'll play more relaxed and confident while Arsenal is more nervous like a cup final, we'll see but yeah I think Spurs will win and Newcastle won't, as for you guys, you're very unpredictable! :P

Very very unpredictable! haha

Newcastle and Tottenham both have very tough scraps IMO. This Fulham side has been very good with the likes of Dempsey, Dembele and Pogrebnyak. I can see them snatching a result even at Tottenham! But of course, we shouldn't count on that in no way.

Come on Arsenal!

Yeah Fulham's definitely a capable side with some very good players. And Spurs have been somewhat struggling and not perform all that great even when they've been grinding wins in the past few weeks BUT I think with them having SO MUCH to play for and at home and Fulham having nothing to play for, the motivation levels will show in the level of performance and commitment and result in Tottenham getting all 3 points.

Same can be said about Arsenal vs. WBA in terms of motivation, etc. except WBA is at home and wants to send off their manager with a good result so I think they have a bit more to play for and if Arsenal players get nervous or not fully focused, it can be trickier than Fulham despite the lesser players.

we can't deppend of the others matches... we need to win :)

Pd: fulham have kerim frei... and a great squad yep.

The art of shooting ourselves on the foot combined with some blatant ripping off by the referee makes us level 2-2 at half-time.

Their 1st goal was a clear offside. Having said that, what on earth was our defence doing?? Why the hell do you push your defence line up to the edge of your own half like that when you're leading 1-0?!?
I don't get it. This kamikaze behaviour from Arsenal's defence is driving me crazy, I can't take this shit any more!

On both their goals, we got caught with our pants down, Vermaelen nowhere to be seen, nor Song. FFS this is getting old, teams know how to hit us on the break, it's easy peasy. Even a League 2 side would punish us.

Only a fantastic goal by André Santos could put us back in this game, and now there's no more margin for error.

Sometimes I get to thinking, what was AW thinking when he signed Gervinho? Watching this man playing football is a depressing experience. Nothing has an end product, when he beats his man he tries another unnecessary feint, when he can pass he tries a shot, when he can shoot he tries a pass. Utterly frustrating. And some people had the cheek of saying Arshavin was frustrating??

Still 45 minutes to make things right, come on Arsenal

We did it! 3rd and in the CL, we don't need to wait til May 19th to know that! :)

But the manner in which we did it was rather worrying. I don't have the slightest confidence in our defence, which has excellent individuals in it but look all loose and messy as a whole.

Bouldy has a lot of work to do! Come on Arsenal!

Fantastic for Arsenal!! No qualifying for the Champions League this year!! Straight to the group stage for us. I love it! Congrats to van Persie for winning the Premier League Golden Boot!

Funny game football is. Last season we were much more stable, even challenging for the title until some point and chucked away 3rd place on the last round to City. Now we finished better off with a 3rd place and straight CL place. Not bad for a season that promised to be our worst in a long time.

A lot of credits to Arsene Wenger and most our players. Now there's a lot of work to be done. Because right now as I type this I have to hear Samir bloody Nasri babbling about he knew from the start that he'd made the right decision. Bollocks! With 3 minutes to go there were City supporters wanting to rip his head off for his shocking performance.

As much as you hate it: Nasri has his silverware. He made the right move. Face it.
A well deserved 3thd place for Arsenal.
Your team will be stronger next year.

That sounds a lil bitter to me! Nasri was hardly required for City to win the league, for me he just grabbed some sky blue coattails. He would have had a much bigger impact if he stayed at Arsenal or gone to United in terms of playing time, contribution and so forth.

But in 20 years he'll have a bigger bank account and a nice medal sitting on the shelf. So yes, in terms of club achievement, no in terms of personal achievement.

Guess all Spurs fan are going to Bayern supporters for the next week!

Guys, don't celebrate so much now, we still can loose the straight Champions League place if Chelsea win the Champions League against Bayern Munich. ;)
Don't forget that Uefa changed the rule that the champions league winner can compete straight into the group stage next season and we have to go to the qualification stage instead.

link?

Wait, I'm not shure anymore :D the German press says Arsenal have to play the qualification of Chelsea win the Champions League but the English press says the totally opposit. I searched in the official UEFA rules but didn't find anything. I'm confused now.

Ahh, that makes sense, it's true! But I would support Bayern with all my heart anyway, so for me it's kind of the same :)
Firstly I want Arsenal someday to be the 1st London club to win the CL. Secondly, there's this impact on the CL places if Chelsea win. But even if I was totally neutral in this, I would still hope Chelsea to lose anyway. They lack fair play on and off the pitch, with a scumbag such as Terry as their captain and all that load of millions spent, and still they manage to play with a negative style centered around denying the opposition. They are pretty despicable IMO, you guys get the idea :D

I don't think that's right - don't Chelsea then have to qualify, not Arsenal?
I read that they assigned the rule that the Champions League winner will compete straight into the group stage, they changed it after Liverpool played the qualification after their Champions League victory. The weird thing is that if both Arsenal and Chelsea are straight in the group stage, then the qualification would miss one opponent :CONFUSE:

I'm really confused, no one has a clear answer on it, yet.
