Arsenal Thread

Yup, indeed a lot to ask. The point Clocky is making (correct me if I'm wrong) is that unlike say Bolton or Blackburn, we don't have to rely on other results going our way to achieve 4th. That is AT LEAST something to take comfort from, the fact that if we keep our house in order we WILL get 4th, the other teams can do what they want.

This is the only mentality we can afford to have at the moment.

Well whether its in your hands and what the actual chances of it happening are two different things. As a matter of fact, from the moment the league starts, winning the title is in everyones hands. But really does that mean anything?
The point is, 6 straight wins is a lot to ask from a team that JUST lost a game and have the CL to think about.

Fecking hell, I am sure you would rather be able to say the same in your position, rather than relying on Chelsea to slip up.

You can dress it up how you like but its in our hands, end of.

you should get 4th. there is a gulf in class between the top 3 and you, and the rest. I can see you winning the rest of your games but I think Tottingham and Blackburn will lose 1 or 2

true, if you win out, you get the 4th spot... but thats a big IF... its going to come down to the wire. In a perfect world its up to you, but this isnt perfection, and somehow i doubt it will come down to your team determinig its own future, there are too many fixtures left, wait about two weeks, then the picture will be clearer

What ever way you look at the fight for 4th spot its going to be a close one, the Arsenal v Tottenham game should decide it but we'll see. You got to take your hats of to Spurs though this year, Jols done a great job

He has done a fantastic job and if Spurs formed had taken a big dip they would have had fourth place sewn up a long time ago.

BTW everyone keeps saying how hard it will be to win all our games, it'll be even harder for Spurs to do it which they also need to really do!

But theres a difference here. We know winning the title is way too much to ask for and finishing second is enough to keep us happy.
If you lot dont get 4th place, will you settle for 5th?
Realistically, we always knew winning the title would be too much to ask for before the season even started. And the way we're finishing this season off has surprised us more than anyone cuz the gap is very close now and we have the League Cup.
But what if someone told you before the start of the league that you'll finish the season in 4th place (let alone 5th)? How would you feel about the team?
Quite sad if you think about it.

I am gutted that we are not winning the league this year but if you are happy to settle for 2nd then who am I to argue? ;)

why are you gutted, did you really expect arsenal to win it.

Being that we've played most of the season wihtout a midfield, us being this close to chelsea is better than any other teams have done....

apparently the spanish FA are moving Villareals league game so they have time to prepare for the gooners.

Funny how all the other FA's help their own teams yet english teams get no help!

On the game itself, after seeing arsenal on sunday, and knowing how Villa play, they will give you's alot more of a game than Juve (which wouldnt be hard) and I fancy them over the two legs.

Still you's have made club history anyway by reaching the semi's and the final could still be within reach so the season hasnt been a complete waste for you's.

Maybe gutted was a bit OTT but I am disappointed with our league form this year. Its funny how you mention your lack of midfield. Whenever we mention our lack of defence or the fact we have used 8 different left backs over the season we get slaughtered for making excuses. Funny that.

your missing the point, we have no MF but we are still playing well, so its not an excuse...

anyway if your defense was the problem how do you explain your CL campaign...

I think your problems lie elsewhere myself...

I don't think that you can say a midfield of Ronaldo, Giggs, Park and O'Shea is NO midfield. Theres plenty of talent in there.

You are right about Villareal though, this will be our toughest 2 games yet. Madrid are fat and past it. Juve were strangely subdued. Villareal are a young, talented team with great players. Its gonna be tough. I am worried our Euro campaign will end here.

yeah the wingers are fine, its the CMF thats a problem, lol if you think a fullback and a 34 year old winger are a quality CMF pairing...

I think Arsenal have the quality to beat them its just that arsenal are pretty easy to beat if the opposition plays the a certain way and IMO Villareal play that way.

I know but like you say, they are doing the job very well at the moment. Scholes should be back soon anyway. O'shea is playing well in that holding role, after all he is a defensive player.

i'd rather have a proper MF than a makeshift one, the prem is pretty poor so we can get away with it but when it comes to europe you need quality, if you's want we'll take cesc of your hands and you's can have the midfield dynamo that is, fletcher!! or Oshea the DMF lynchpin, he would get on very well and play well with Big Sol!!

lmbo!

6 straight wins? Dont make me laugh!! That was Arsenal's one saviour game, and just as i said portsmouth got something out of it. Now its defintely out of your hands.

I have never been happy with the Adebayor signing and I guess I will never will be. I think his character and playing style don't fit into the team. He reminds me too much of Kanu.

Im suprised Arsenal went along with playing alexandre Song in the heart of midfield instead of Gilberto Silva., the guy is absolutely shit. He is Riobert Song's(former Liverpool scum player) cousin, which says it all. Adebayor is too clumsy a player for my liking, open goal and he couldnt finish lol.

I hope Arsenal get that 4th Champions League spot...even if it comes by winning the CL.

We can't be having an unscrupulous team like Spurs representing us in the CL.

...and we don't want a bunch of hatchet men like Blackburn chiming in on it either.

I have a dislike for Spurs, and Blackburn would only end up being an Everton embarrassment.

Arsenal have been the most exciting team to watch in the Premiership in recent years, and they deserve to be taking part in the CL.

Think of it boys, Liverpool win the CL, then the Arse...that will be sure to leave a lump in United's and Chelsea's throats.
