Arsenal Thread

not really a lump. I think Arse need to win the champs league so they can look back on the present team in years to come. I hope they win it. just glad you scousers didn't win it again:mrgreen:

We are up against it now but I still feel that there are more twists and turns to come this season in the race for 4th place. But yes, Alucard you have your wish, its out of our hands.

I am one of Wenger's biggest fans but I think he must shoulder some of the blame for last night, I mean 7 changes!!??

I know its a squad game these days, and Song didn't play as bad as some people are making out. Gilberto needs a rest, but why rest him last night in an away game we really needed to win? Surely it would have been better to rest him on Saturday when we are at home and play Song against WBA if he has to use him at all.

Adebayor missed chances that he would usually score in his sleep, but he had the sort of night every player has in their career at some point. In the long term he will be a good signing, I am convinced of that. Great 1-2 with Thierry for the goal.

You just knew that last night after all those chances went begging we would be punished for it but I totally agree about the changes. There's tweaking the team to refresh players and then a complete overhaul like we got last night.

It's going to be difficult to finish fourth but with Spurs away to Everton and home to United this weekend and us at home to WBA and away to Citeh I can see it lying in our hands again leading up to the Scum game.

Song didnt play bad by his own standards, but im sure Arsenal can get a better midfielder in the middle than him.

Maybe now you'll start listening to what i say, instead of dismissing my opinions as 'ifs' and 'buts'.

Its gonna be hard as our game with Citeh has been moved to 4th May because of our Euro matches, so feasibly Spurs could be 7 in front when we play them, a win for them that day and its all over. Its ifs and buts again though!

Your clinging on to fairy dust.Arsenal have to hope Tottenham lose at least 2 games from now til the end of season if they want to overtake them, or hope tottenham draw more than 3 games. Even WBA will be a tough game, so i would be weary of thinking its automatic 3points, they will be fighting for survival also.

Yeah, a bit different now tho eh?

Don't write off Adebayor. He had a mare last night infront of goal but who hasn't had one of those? IMO he links very well with Henry. He wins headers, does the dirty work for our more flashy players and at the end of the day, 4 premiership goals in his first couple of months is hardly something to be sniffed at. He isn't as instinctive or as good a finisher as RVP, but he is stronger and perhaps has better vision.

It was a frustrating night in all as the first touch from our attackers was very poor in some cases, and Reyes seems to have jaded some what since the Real game where he played out his socks.

I got a feeling that Adebayor will be a big player next season, and i do like his running and persistance. He was somewhat unlucky with the first chance (where it should have been 2-0), when he prob thought the defender would have got the ball, but great strikers anticipate the defender missing the chance and getting the ball, and i guess he will learn. His second chance he normally puts away in his sleep (during his monaco days), and i guess is just came off his corn-rolls wrong! (just kidding) I was cursing our luck! Just when we get a tall target man, he heads like Crouch!

Freddie's chance was a good save from Kiely preventing it going in, and Djourou just couldn't find the net when he was free as well.

It's going to be extremely tough now, and we CAN'T slip up again. We seriously need to defeat Spurs, and any draws from now on just won't help at all. I thought with the 7 changes, we played really well, and were only caught out by a set piece (AGAIN!), and fair due to Portsmouth for playing really well.

p.s. Todorov is a c*nt. Did you see Wenger tell him he dived, and he patted Wenger on the arm and said "what did you want me to do?"

p.p.s I hate that dude in the crowd with the bell... f*ck's sake.. it's like the bell in the playground! haha!

Get yer facts right if you come on here reeling off stats.

What is certain is that we must beat Tottenham. After that though they have to win ALL their other games, including the one against United. Even a draw against you means it swings back to us. Remember our goal diff is 13 better so that is almost like an extra point.

I know you are dying to right us off but its a bit premature for that.

No cuz if you havnt realised your still 4points behind tottenham. They can afford to lose.If they lose and you win a game to close gap your still a point behind. Goal difference wont help if your a point behind.

I hear what your saying but i was talking more about the other games where they can afford to lose. Obviously when you play them its gonna be crunch time but the pressure and onus will be on Arsenal since only a win would be good enough. Whatever way you want to kid yourself, the advantage is still in Tottenhams court.

Of course it is, they are in Pole Position. What we don't know is how they will cope with the pressure of being where they are. A defeat to us and the wheel could come off. How do you think Utd will do on Monday at Shite Hart Lane then? Do you think you will win?

Im not too certain of victory now since its been reported Saha is injured. Either Ruud or rooney cant be given a rest now. And its two games in 3days for the lads. But the one avantage is that its only sunderland we are playing and its at home, so the players shouldnt get too tired. But its always a sticking situation when we play Tottenham away. Considering the form we are in im still pretty confident we will be too much for tottenham. My prediction
Tottenham 1-2 Man Utd, but you never know.

So what you have done there is speculate which is all I am doing really. Should that be the score and we have beaten WBA on Saturday then its back in our favour again. Like I said earlier, there will be more twists before the end of the season.

While speculating, you also have to be realistic. I was only speculating one mere result which i consider to be realistic. Im not saying we are gonna win all our matches til the end of the season while chelsea then are going to certainly going to drop points to bolton, then everton and then United beat chelsea and then we are champions. Thats being unrealistic. I think chelsea will be champions since they are above and its only theirs to lose and its a more than likely outcome. Im not assuming and kidding myself to believe they are gonna throw it away and its in our hands to win it from them. Im hoping and thats all i can do, since its out of our hands.

It's exciting though guys! (Who said the Premiership was boring? Oh yeah, SPL fans)

Yeah but that happens every year, they've only got 5 or 6 games left this year so I'm sure they'll be able to play both games and then be fit for their next game 5 days later, especially Ruud he's had a month off.

Jesus if we mention players being tired cause of the added Champions League games we get slaughtered.

it would be quite funny if Blackburn got the 4th place, although it would be funnier if spurs finished 4th and you won the champs league.

No Hollywood career after football for Sol. He might just join Steve Bruce's broken boxers nose club.

Arsenal have confirmed defender Sol Campbell broke his nose against Portsmouth on Wednesday, but no decision has been taken on whether he will have surgery immediately.

The stopper made his return to action at Fratton Park, following three months out through injury, but he was forced off late in the contest with blood streaming from his nose following an aerial challenge.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger feared the worst in his post-match interview and tests on Thursday confirmed Campbell had broken his nose.

The defender will see a specialist who will make a detailed assessment before a decision is taken on whether he will go under the surgeon's knife immediately.

"Sol's nose is broken. He sees a specialist today," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.

"He has no breathing problems but the surgeon has to decide whether he has surgery now or whether we should wait until the end of the season.

"If he needs surgery now it is at least a week out. It is three weeks without any risk but I feel he could play after one week."

The injury is the latest setback for Campbell who is struggling to prove his fitness for this summer's World Cup finals.

Gunners set Dennis date
By Peter ORourke - Created on 14 Apr 2006

Arsenal have confirmed Dennis Bergkamp's testimonial match will be the first game to be played at their new Emirates Stadium.

Bergkamp is in line for a testimonial in the summer as reward for his service to the club.

The Dutchman has spent the last 11 seasons at Highbury after joining the club from Internazionale.

Bergkamp is looking forward to the testimonial game on July 22 and is excited that it will be the first match to be played at Arsenal's new home.

"It will be an emotional day for me as I have spent the last 11 years here, playing some of the best football of my career," said Bergkamp.

"The supporters have been amazing to me and I hope that they will enjoy the day as much as I will.

"What will make the occasion extra special is not only will it be the first-ever match at Emirates Stadium, it will be an opportunity to see Arsenal players past and present on the pitch at the same time."

Should be a good night!

Nice to see Dennis getting on the scoresheet, in recent weeks I kinda forgot about him. He's not been getting too many games so I think it's good he's put himself back in the frame.

I also captured his wife and kid while I was watching via Winamp. :D

His kid had the Arsenal shirt with "Daddy" and number 10 on it. :D
