Arsenal Thread

Yeah we are, and I agree completely on the defense bit. Our CB pairings aren't so bad. We need to improve defensively overall. What the team lacks is more solidarity - midfielders tracking back and busting guts to help defense - and attention in open play, and on top of that, the setpieces of course!

I think, of all those CBs, Jagielka is the best, but would be too expensive.

Wenger talks about finding the right players, but he needs some less than special pieces to cover defensive roles too. The squad is very thin in some areas still. If Song gets injured, we're screwed. Frimpong looked promising (I saw him live last year) but he spent one whole season injured, like Vermaelen.

As for Sczez, I like the lad too, his abilities and attitude - I really like how he's mental :D
But he's still 19 and we don't know if he can do it season in season out. We're taking it for granted already. But what if he pulled some Fabianskies?

Wenger is walking on thin fucking ice this time if he doesn't do the necessary moves in the market and the team doesn't do well. But please don't see me as being too much of a pessimist. I want him to shut his critics as much as you do :)

definately I think everyone agrees that this is make or break season for Wenger, if he gets it wrong then everything is going to change. Makes it even more ominous because of how strong Man City and Liverpool are going to be this season aswell, on top of Chelsea and Man United strengthening aswell.

I'm just worried, because even if Wenger goes I can't see many positives coming from it, I just hope i'm wrong.

Well in all fairness , Vermaelen was out most of last season. Having 2 or 3 players not really prem experience plays against the grain every time . Song has been much better and he seems to be much bulkier atm too. Djourou was good he just didnt partner well enough with squallaci .

I remember squallaci always ran back to defend and usually let the attacking player on sides. He is more of a true CB while the others play more of a DM role. I would like to see 3 players fab`s replacement 1 CB and 1 GK. IMO Gervinho is replacing Nasri, whether he goes or stays.

He makes some good points about our defenders and also about Denilson aswell.

Yeah I saw that he made some obvious valid points . Djourou always said he prefers DM and plays somewhat like one. kosci never played at the top only was a promising future for Lique 1 that`s the buffer for Lique1 not PL... Neither of them played 20 games with Vermaelen so at least pre-season they have bonded to a certain positive degree :) who do you see starting next season w/o the ? of a new signing coming.

sagna.....Djourou.....vermaelen.....gibbs

I would go for that, but I think Wenger might choose Koscielny instead of Djourou.

Well, Wenger said “Certainly, we will have to find one more defender,” he said. “We [are] working on it.

he also said
“I don’t want to comment individually because I do not want to destabilise clubs. I do not want to do to other clubs what some clubs do to us so I wouldn’t like to comment individually on any player.”
Wenger`s quotes

Samba is tall ,good in the air ,but having an Englishman at back might bring a more stability with Gibbs/Carl .Vermaelen to me plays like a English hardman .

Tall, good in the air, strong, English?

Bramble.

He has got alot of mistakes in him though (or at least he used to, I haven't seen much of him recently) and we have plenty of players to make mistakes, we don't need another one :))

Gervinho scoring 2 very good goals before the 15min mark very impressive, not sure how a winger keeps getting thru the middle . He is very fast or really really wants to impress.

agreed own goal from 30 yds out  anyhow great 1st half ,but Gervinho leaving left no one running into open space. 2nd half was a bore fest! no creativity Arshavin woeful finishing and RVP only got 1 shot in the whole half. Ramsey n Jack are a bag of opportunities they pass n dribble past players w/ ease. Nasri was easily shut down. Gervinho threat is running w/o the ball and creating space, we missed that since Henry left I know it was his 1st game but I`m loving this bloke! :BOP:

Lovely first goal by Gervinho, great pass by Wilshere.

Poor Jenkinson looked like he was going to cry after doing that, poor guy. Apart from that though he is sounding very promising.

I think gervinho will amaze a lot of people in the premiere this season. You need two more signings good as this one to have be title contenders in my oppinion. Good to hear he is starting well!

He's not really a "winger" per se, more of a versatile wing forward who can play across the front-line.

i hope that shit doesnt happen during the season because thats all it takes to lose a final.

Jut ask kolsenleya nd shezney.

i truelly believe if we had won that carling cup we would have won the league.

All ifs or buts of course but cant deny the fact that winning the carling cup can boost your morals .

I think you should be Arsenal manager, Jonney. Wenger is to complacent and you're the extreme opposite.
Also, calling them by wrong names should give 'em a reality check, that should put those chumps in their places :D

Funny side note here, as pointed out by Arseblog: didn't know we spent £15M for Chamakh!

Chamakh is quality!

He played great in 1st half and when van Persie came back, he played all the time which is good because van persie is also quality! And Maroaune was limited to substitute appearances late on for 10-15 mins and sometimes not even that as Wenger would keep bringing on Bendtner! And also Chamakh needs great crosses! The guy's a BEAST in the air (one of the best) but Arsenal rarely cross the ball or when they do very well (Sagna rare exception), so he wasn't getting the service he needs.

He's a very good player and a very good forward. No doubt about it.

I guess even the Czechs hate Barca...

Despite the clear language barrier, Czech Gooners took a message for Xavi to Köln:

the thing is, when theirs nothing to play for ie not pressure, arsenal can beat anybody 9/10 but when its time to pull your socks off and jump that final hurdle, they always fuck it up.

Pre season games dont tell us fuck all.

matter of speaking, from now until march, it doesnt mean fuck all either. lets see how we play from march onwards till the end of the season to see if we have made any improvement.
