Arsenal Thread

For me, yeah he definitely would. No problem there. Quality speaks for itself. One of the best if not the best midfielder in the league. He fully deserved his EPL player of the year award. He can get into any team really. Certainly every EPL team, maybe not as much abroad. Wilshere's still young and learning and will be rotated and needs some rest, he's better than Song for me definitely even if Song has vastly improved and is now a good player.

Anyway with all the games in all the different competitions the team will play in, everyone will be rotated and considering injuries (which Arsenal never disappoint in lol), suspensions etc. everyone will get enough playing time.

If he's a target, then great, I'm very happy to hear about that and to see Wenger's actually serious this year and wants to take care of what needs to be done to really improve this team.

VERY HAPPY to heard that arsenal have reportly made a club record 18 millions poud for Juan Mata. thats would be a the greatest signing since 2001.

While he'd obviously be an upgrade in that area of the pitch, it's a bit déjà vu seeing you guys linked with the likes of Alvarez, Gervinho and Mata rather than some steel in midfield or someone to shore up the backline.

Not liking very much those shirts...I preferred the away shirts of the last seasons, specially the yellow ones (of which I have one).

About Mata, it would be a very good signing, but I think you still need 3 signings: a striker, a midfielder and a defender.

A stellar striker and a midfielder. Someone like Etoo would inmediately put the team at the title fight. I know Etoo costs too much for Arsenal, but I think Van Persie is better as a AMC or a second striker, and since Henry left, Arsenal is missing a reference striker that can play with spaces or in tight crowded areas as well. Someone who will score in the difficult matches and put fear in the opponent deffenses.

In the midfield, the names in this thread would be great. But if Nasri or Cesc go away, I think Arsenal should spend big in Pastore. He's a perfect player for Arsenal, he's young and he would fit perfectly well with the current squad.

But also someone like Toure or Cambiasso is needed there to add the "steel" Aboutreika talks about.

Thing is though Reyes though supremely talented, was not very professional. He was more into checking out girls than training hard lol. Can't blame him there. :P Hardly the most ambitious or professional and let's face it, you need both in abundance if you wanna truly reach your peak and hit new heights.

Mata is no saint but he definitely seems a lot more focused and professional as a person than Reyes though not the most ambitious either so for me he's already great and who knows just how great he can become. Unlike Reyes, I don't see him going downhill or plummeting as a player so much or so fast, might just get even better though and he's already VERY good!

Yeah I don't think Mata is actually as talented as Reyes but its likely he'll be more of a success. Hard work and commitment is nearly as important as the talent to make it to the top.

Probably even more important in my opinion. Look at all the great talents that faded away and all the players who not only made it to the top but stayed there for years playing for the best teams and contributing while not exactly being natural talents because of sheer commitment, determination, hardwork, drive, ambition and professionalism.

I don't agree that Mata isn't as talented as Reyes though. I think he is. Very special kid. But yeah considering he has better attitude, I expect him to stay on top as he is right now for much longer and even get better. He hasn't hit his peak yet and he's already a damn good player.

Still, unlike Scott Parker, he's not absolutely 'vital'. Arsenal would be club definitely boosted by him but they don't NEED him like they need Scott Parker. Let's hope Wenger makes us all proud and does the right things this summer.

you lots make it sound like we got Mata already  We dont know who or what Arsenal has only the media is speaking...Cahil,Samba, Jagielka,Gervinho,Chamberlain,Nasri,Clichy, Enrique,Baines,Alvarez(60%)Benezema, Mata and Fabregas.

No doubt this summer looks more promising for signing players ,but seriously how many players will actually join vs leaving. Vela`s agent said Vela wont leave even though he wont be involve at all this season or He`ll gamble on injuries to get him on the bench. Arsenal could push the debt a lot more imo and still be ahead compare to most clubs. I just think Wenger n Co. goals are stability over short term success. Which I find so gutted short term Oh! beside Mata father did say Arsenal is a big club but Mata is on Holiday so nothing to materialize until the end of July .

Reyes had a brain the size of a pea, if Mata is a bit more clever, then it should be alright....if we get him.

Nah Jose Antonio was no dickhead or like typical English winger, just speed and don't 'understand' football, no brain. His problem was, he just didn't give a f***. :D  Only cared when playing for beloved Sevilla.

Lax attitude, too laid back, 'cool' guy.

Mata's got the brains but also knows you gotta actually 'sweat'.

He was like a little kid, for a grown man I think that is stupid. No doubt in a football sense he had a good brain, but everything else he was a fool.

It's such a waste, he could have been amazing.

I loved Reyes then I could still hears girls screaming "Reyes I Looove You " was cute back then. Now, Reyes is a has been.... he did everything wrong Not to be a success. Once everyone could agree on that . Poor Jose`s radio hoax :COAT: that was some crazy days.

Lol okay maybe we're being too harsh on poor guy now. :P He's not a has-been, he's still a good player and only like 27 still but yeah disappointing definitely. Could've been so much more. Him and Joaquin both hugely disappointing after all and will look back on their careers with regrets despite fair amount of success.

Haha true.

Anyway all this talk about Mata, at this point, it still might be wishful thinking anyway but Gervinho will get done I'm pretty sure. Just a matter of time I think. Despite interest from many, he's set his heart on Arsenal for awhile now it seems and I think LOSC and Wenger will do business real soon. And he's a quality player so something to look forward to.

Mata is definitely a more complete player. He may lack the creativity of Reyes, but he's a worker and can be a satin finisher too. He's a great signing if you make it and will inmediately start producing.

Besides, another left footed player is always a blessing to any team. We lefties are only a few, but add 3 or 4 to a squad and the team begins to work...:BOP:

Pastore to Arsenal would be absolutely awesome. IMO Pastore has all to become one of the best players in the world. I'm looking forward to an Argentinian national team with both Messi and Pastore full strength. With players like that Argentina can win the next WC in..Brazil!!!

uppdate:

its official. arsenal are expecting an improved offer from barcelona and will sell for the right price.

gutted.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13928823.stm

Might as welll write off next season. I doubt barcelona will hand us cash in hand for fabregas for us to buy a replacement. where screwed.

Another shitty season awaits courtesy of Barcelona

Only happening if Barcelona offers the right money wich i doubt they will and i olso hope they will not!
IT will be tough to imagine Arsenal without Cesc...just like it was without Henry....

.......I am pissed off waiting for the first real signing only rumours....

French media report PSG will up the ante and offer Arsenal €15m for Gael Clichy and offer the player €3m a season.

I'd love Liverpool to sign Clichy but PSG can have him for that.

So would this mean that Nasri would stay? Or what he actually leave because of it?

Well , £18m wouldn`t be a record then ? reyes was £17m

Well that was my point, although it was wrong ;). Unbelievable that you guys haven't even passed the 20mil mark yet. A quick google search shows that Reyes was 10,5 rising to 17,5mil based on appearences...

I'd be happy with that. I just want Fab to go now, so we don't get all this crap every season.

So Fab to go, Nasri to commit to us and then sort out our defence! :DD

But it is true, Barca still need to offer us how much we are willing to sell him for, will they do it? who knows, but from what they were saying, they won't.

Only way I can see it happening is us getting £35mill and some other bonuses/players etc.
