Arsenal Thread

The Swiss Teenager are good but Senderos playd on the wrong position. Don't care to much about this season, there are many young players in the team. Looking forward but the Gunners need a good position at the end, otherwise they don't play international matches in the next season

There's 2 ways you can look at our current situation.

1) We are in transistion - some players are past thier best and need replacing

This is the popular view and too be honest, I share it. Players like Freddie, Sol, Pires look a shadow of thier former-selves. They are past it IMO, living on their reputations. We have replacements in the squad, Walcott, Senderos, Hleb but they are not ready yet to replace them long term. However, on the plus side, experiences like last night will do them good in the long run.

Wenger has to come for some criticism as well, selling Paddy was all fine by me, but ONLY if a quality replacement was signed at the same time. This didn't happen for 1 reason or another, but letting him go after Edu had left was unforgivable. Paddy may well have had shite 18 months prior to leaving, but a below par Vieira is better than no Vieira at all! Wenger left the midfield too weak and we all knew it.

2) We have had terrible luck with injuries in defence.

To lose our first choice left back through injury, then our very capable second choice left back within a week is bad luck. Even the thrid choice left back (Cygan) is injured now. Its not much better over the other side, Lauren has been in and out (currently out for a month) Eboue is away at the ACN, and Gilbert the thrid choice limped off last night. We have no-one else left to play there. Campbell is not right at the moment too and no-one could have forseen the problems we have had in this area.

On a plus note, I really like the look of Djourou. He is commanding, good in the air, can pass well and looks like he has a good future in the game, lets hope he gets a run of games so he can make it at Arsenal.

IMO the current situation is down to a combination of the above, to lose Cole\Clichy has been detrimental to our attacking strength down the left side, we just don't look as dangerous coming forward without either of them in the team. Can't wait to get them back.

Still it looks like the run-in will be exciting!

I agree with you there mate he looks really confident and assured at the back.

I've heard from somewhere (think it was ANR) that Lauren could be out for the season!

Lauren one of the best players in the prem! Ah i havnt had a good laugh all day until now.

Double team of 1998.

Double team of 2002.

Unbeaten Champions 2004.

Present day - He is again team building for the 4th time, this time with talented youngsters who will need a bit of time to bed in.

Great DOMESTIC List there but what about Europe where real Quality managers like O'Niel,Mourinho,Benitez shine.

The fact that you went a whole season in the league unbeaten and you still sucked in the European cup says it all.
Arsenal fans right now should expect to compete in the domestic but apart from this season being your best in Europe you know if arsenal are ever away to a Panithonikos,Moscow etc etc its an away loss every time.
Where Man unt, Liverpool and chelsea and even clubs like leeds have played crap but still managed to scrape draws.

Alots being mad of Sols fitness, but why is Wenger playing him...

Probably because we don't have anyone else fit or available! I suppose we are suffering by having 2 defenders who are african and are away.

Fair comments there. But earlier you said that Wenger is a "bad manager". Nothing you have said there backs up that view.

If you had said bad in Europe then you may have had a point...;)

He is one of our most consistent performers year in\year out. He's a quality player, surely even a blinkered United fan such as yourself can see that?

The fact that he has made numerous PFA teams of the year backs up the fact he is one of the best players in the prem.

Whats you guys take on the campbell situation? The guy is consider hanging up his boots because of how disappointing he has been recently. i Think getting substituted against west ham was the last straw for the lad. He should really take it on the chin but he one of those players who cant handle the pressure and when things get tough opts for the easier route.

Alucard, you are talking bollox again. Campbell has issues in his personal life which is now affecting his game, he is only human after all.

He needs some time off IMO to get himself sorted out. This couldn't have come at a worse time though.

Oh right, so you speak to Sol personally do you?

If he's got personal demons to exercise then it's best if he isn't playing. His father passed away in '03 but he came back to be one of the lynchpins of the unbeaten Premiership side. To suggest he's the sort of player to take the easy route is a joke frankly.

I think he's turned in enough match winning performances for us to deserve a bit of patience, at least until it becomes clear what's up with big man at the moment.

Ok fair enough, i take back what i said. It merely sounded like he was having a sulk. When i heard he stormed out of Highbury when he got substituted and then being left out of the birmingham match I thought he was being drama queen.

I guess you got to feel sorry for the lad. He is going through a terrible time on the pitch. He has been strugglinh with injuries for the last few seasons. His england place is no longer gurenteed. Arsenal are no longer the team they use to be in the premiership. On top of that he has cost arsenal some important matches this season. Namely in the carling cup, facup and matches against everton and west ham where goals have been conceded in abundance through the middle of defense.

I wont be suprised if he quits. Apparently he was just staring at the wall in the dressing room alone at half time after he been substituted, wondering why he had become so stale.

There is a story going round the net at the minute that the reason why Campbell is having a breakdown and considering quitting football is because apparently the news of the world are going to be running a story exposing Campbell as being in a relationship with another man. The rumours are that its either Stefan Freund or Will Young.

:lmao:

There's also rumours flying around that he's HIV. You can't believe rumours!

If that rumour about the News of the World is true then that is a complete joke, are they going to destroy the England team piece by piece every week?
