Arsenal Thread

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

you really think van persie will be as good as rooney... cmon man... im pretty sure man united have made back in spades in kit sales alone for rooney and ronaldo... every other kid from the UK to HK has a man u jersey with rooney or ronaldo on it. I even see it all the time in america... Dont you think that is doing good business? Do you know how many park jerseys have been sold in Korea? He is a legend there.... How many toure and van persie kits do you think have been sold comparatively? Sure you bought some players on the cheap, but man united certainly makes money off the big names they buy. After all it is a business. And while arsene and arsenal have there business style, man united has theres, they both seem to work very well, so i dont think one is better then the other... So it baffles me when people act as if its a negative that manu paid so much for rooney, ronaldo, tevez, and other players, they get the most out of them.... weather it be on the pitch or in the stores... Now if there was a salary cap in place, then arsene is a pure fucking genius... but there isnt...

I don't know the figures etc so can't really comment. but I think that you are over estimating the numbers somewhat.

Man United are run very well - but alot of their money (and their ability to make money) comes from previous success. So yes they are big in Asia anyway.

I'm talking about just how much players cost - Van persie for 2.5 million!! if you compare how much each were bought for In that terms value for money I would go for Van persie easily.

Anyway - The infalted prices Man U and Chelsea pay for English players mean they price other teams like Arsenal out of getting them, Full stop. They pay over the top to stop others from getting them. Thats why Arsenal have no big English players.

Ashley cole fucked off because he is a greedy so and so.

Shaun wright Phillips eyes glazed over with the Chelsea money. It is well known cheslea only bought him when they did because we were seriously interested. They paid a stupid amount for him.

We have bought a few but they are shit!! Jeffers - Richard Wright etc

This is why we don't buy English players.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Yeah I do think he is as good (they are different types of forwards but on the same level). Van Persie can change a game in a instant and is always looking to do something out of the ordinary. Rooney is over-hyped by the British press and is no way superior to RVP in any way. Just my opinion.

You argument is screwed anyway, just because Rooney cost £29m doesn't mean he will sell more shirts, look at how much Fabregas cost and look at the amount of shirts with his name on. Yes there are lots!

you cant possibly think that arsenal is a popular world wide as manu(thus rooney and ronaldo would sell more shirts)... rooney overhyped by the british press? wow, i think any level headed fan would find your comment ridiculous... his goal record this year and last year speak for themselves...

No you miss my point. Of course United are more popular worldwide but if Toure played for United you would still sell lots of Toure shirts whether he cost £500k or £500m. The cost of the player is irrelevant.

Do you read the English press then?? If you ask any genuine English fan they will tell you that Rooney hasn't really hit the heights he was expected to reach (yet!). He has been good (but not brilliant) for United but pretty mediocre for England (and thats being kind). Even Peter Crouch has a better goals to games ratio at international level

he has been special for united cause they are a special team. He has been avg for england cause england are shit! rooney not brilliant for united?!!?!? thats like saying henry was a decent goal scorer...

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

sometimes your point of view falls on death ears and you still keep talking. Rooney is shit for England and not for United thank God for foreign players to help Rooney be special and for Korea who buys Rooney mugs...point taken

Arsenal were rubbish tonight regardless how many were in Slavia P. goal

Come on mate, that's going a bit far. You have just shown your true colours, you are wearing red tinted glasses! So put me in the "special" United side would make me a special player would it?

saying wayne rooney is a special player has absolutley nothing to do with me being a manu fan. I think cesc is as well. and i wouldnt say you wear red tinted glasses for saying so either. If you have any kind of passion for the game and an open mind you surely have to admit that he is a very very good striker and in fact special, saying so otherwise to me, is absolutely ridiculous and points out that your the one being completely biased.

games goals assists
234 83 45

so rooney either scores(more likeley scores) or gets an assist in every other game...

Well you would think Rooney is special when all you have to compare him with is Brian McBride and Landon Donovan!!

Seriously pal you have your opinion and I have mine. Seeing as I actually attend Premiership matches home and away and talk to a lot of fans of other clubs I think I have the right to believe that I have my finger on the pulse of public opinion a little bit more than you pal, don't take offence though. Rooney is a good player and has the potential to be special but he is not there yet. Van Persie is in exactly the same boat.

If you want to talk about a Utd player who is very close to being special then Ronaldo is that player, I rate him very highly.

Like I have said before Rooney is over-hyped over here and thats the way it is. As an England fan I hope he can scale the heights and send us to World Cup glory in 2010 but he will have to improve a lot to do this.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Gomito - you obviously didn't do much research looking at Van Persies honours.

If you look at this page on wikpedia it will tell you a bit

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_van_Persie#Honours

You will find a Uefa Cup winner with Feyenord - some Barclays player of the months. Goal of the months. Also Rotterdam player of the year.

If that is all true - then you should really should not post until you know all the facts.

Van persie was leading the pack in goals before he got injured for half the season. and he is doing well this season before injury.

Rooney is a great talent - but he is not special.

as and england fan i guess you forgot about his performance in portugal. but i think its useless arguing with people who bring up the fact that they go to prem games week in and week out. I have no idea what that has to do with anything... i guess the huge disparity in goal scoring and assists means nothing if another arsenal fan tells you rooney is nothing special, why bring up donovan and mcbride? How do you have to compare rooney to for england, andrew johson and peter crouch? ohhhhhhhhhhhhh you got me there, those to world class strikers... the usa could never compete with the likes of johnson, ashton, crouch, and hey maybe if your desperate you could always call up robbie fowler!

good god son, you guys argument is weak when you compare the actual stats, rooney has been injured plenty, you sure as shit know that... put rooney on roterdamn, we will see how he fairs in the dutch league.... you know and i know what the end result would be..

How is it weak?! - your argument sucks balls when you do a comparison and miss out a whole lot of personal achievements including a fucking Uefa Cup.

If any ones argument is weak it is yours - if anything yours is severely flawed, as you not doing any proper research on Van persies side, just shows a very biased review of things.

How can we even believe the stats you give us, when the other part of your info was so incredibly wrong?!

Like I said before Crouch has a better goalscoring record for England than Rooney. Does it make Crouch a better player? No. Stats are great but they are not the be all and end all, especially incomplete stats ..;).

Rooney is good player and an important one for Utd and England, but is he a special player? No way mate and I think most would agree. Maybe I will do a poll! There's an idea.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Reading tonight - I feel it will be tricky. But from what their manager says they will be having a bit of a go at us attacking wise. Hopefully they don't try and kick us about - i'm sure they won't.

Anyway to be honest I hope we win by a couple of goals so we get the top spot back :D

Come on Arsenal!!!!!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Yes Bobby that is true although too be honest I'd take any win! Its not important to be top right now but 3 points tonight is!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

You've played pretty well tonight so far (68mins gone).

Adebayor is playing really well....wont say anymore in case someone is watchin it later and doesn't want to know the scoreline..

 You clearly quoted him out of context there. Special might have been the wrong word but his point clearly was that Man Utd are a much better team than England are. And with the way they play, its harder for Rooney to perform cuz unlike with other managers, England stick to one formation and then pick the best XI based on individual ability and reputation, completely disregarding the type of players they're using and whether they'll work in the system thats being used. This is why Gerrard and Lampard never had great international careers when they really should have.

I'm not gonna get into this debate here cuz you're only gonna agree with us if he played for your team. I dont look at stats and figures to make my judgement, my opinion comes from the amount of times we've been knocked down and seen Rooney lift us up, whether its with goals, assists or his general performance.
Its the same with what Gerrard did for Liverpool in the CL a few years ago. Thats enough to make both players special IMO.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Did any of you lads watch last nights game?

You played some really nice football. Fabregas ran the show in a understated way. Reading never got to grips with Fabregas, Rosicky or Hleb because of their first touch and technical ability. Obviously you can't just rush in and pressure someone if they can kill the ball with one touch and pass or dribble around you, but in turn when you sit off such players you can invite toruble, so Reading were kind of stuck not knowing how to deal with the situation. All the tactics in the world doesn't help you sometimes if the players you are up against are simply better. When Reading sat deep they looked in trouble, but it was even worse when they attacked because your pace and ability to sweep the ball forward on the counter was far too much for them.

Adebayor was as good as I have seen him in some time and man of the match for me, superb first goal and his second goal was excellent as well onside- shouldn't have been ruled off.

You should have already been three up, but Hlebs obviously settled it well and truly, though I did think the commentator comparing his dribling skills to George Best on the goal was mentally questionable given he tried his best to miscontrol the ball....still quality football and a great game for the neutrals, you and Man Utd are great to watch this year.

Hope we can continue to improve hehe.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Of course we were good but that's how we have been playing for 90% of the season. I think a lot people were expecting us to drop points last night but we answered them emphatically.

Reading looked like a Championship side for long periods, not that they are that bad we just made them look bad. In all honesty we were so superior it was a walk in the park. Next up Wigan at home where our biggest enemy is complacency.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

I think a lot people were expecting us to drop points last night but we answered them emphatically.

That sounds like us against the world paranoia

I don't think too many people felt as you say at all, but I guess that level of paranoia has ever done Ferguson any harm, so maybe it can work for you too.

There behind you Whhhhooaa

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Everyone wants ManUtd to win and everyone is waiting to slate on Arsenal if they slip. Arsenal is playing their football and Manutd players keep nitpicking about Arsenal. I say everyone plays the same amount of games ...play your football and Arsenal plays their football . TOP OF the LEAGUE!!! Lets Dance!! (The CHA`CHA`Cha!)

Is it not possible that a lot of neutrals are just enjoying a lot of good football played by two very good teams and are doing so without selective bias?

What are you talking about? Everyone keeps overexaggerating how good Arsenal are over here. That hype will only be justified once you've gone all season with that form.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Still top!

Lol i find it funny , how people say everyone wants us to win when that isnt true, Arsenals "God Like Football" is also in my opinion over used , yes you play the best footie but in my opinion you dont have a 2nd plan at times, for me its like Arsenal are at one end of the graph with their play and Chelsea are at the other and im happy where i think we stand in that which is the best balanced probably inbetween, also lately i would say are football has been if not on par with yours its very close

All I`m saying it seem that everyone pretty much think it`s in the bag for Man utd and all Gunners are saying is we are contenders for the title.

Every time Man Utd wins what does the media show "ManUtd top of the table" and then you hear SAF : that`s very important to be on top again. Knowing when Arsenal wins we go back on top that`s the reference to my rant.

When will the naysayers come out and say I under estimated the Gunners yes 1 came out ,but why wait til the end to say it?

another thing what is the main reason for most of their thinking? squad depth ....SAF say it every chance and fairplay to him maybe we`ll takèm up on it

What a load of BS. You just sound like you're moaning cuz people arent kissing your ass enough.
First of all, no one thinks its in the bag for us.
Secondly, if we're at the top of the table, thats what the media's gonna say. What else are they supposed to write? "Man Utd at the top, but it means nothing cuz Arsenal havent played yet!"?
Thirdly, you're now asking all the people that doubted you to come out and admit they were wrong? I'm not even gonna explain why thats stupid.
And finally, we had a pretty good season last year winning the title and making it to the semis in the CL. The only thing stopping us from doing better was our squad depth. You can clearly see we couldnt keep up our level of performance near the end. This year we have a good depth in our squad and what kind of performances do we get? 24 goals in 7 games answers that for you.
So yeah, Sir Alex has every reason to talk about his squad depth.
