Interesting read - Hopefully in years to come we'll have bigger transfer kitties

According to the press release below, Arsenal FC is raking in the cash at heretofore unforseen levels. Look out ManU and Real Madrid, Arsenal is proving they can move product with the best of them!

Arsenal FC - The Premiership’s Fastest Growing Football Brand

Soccer - Latest research shows that Arsenal FC is the fastest growing football brand in the Premiership1. Granada Ventures, the media agent and licensing management company for Arsenal, has released figures that show the size and scale of the Arsenal brand last season and makes projections for the forthcoming 2005/2006 season.

Granada Ventures is predicting a big year for the Arsenal brand in 2005/2006, which will be the last at Highbury before the move to Emirates Stadium, the new home of Arsenal. Retail turnover of Arsenal branded products through the club’s own channels is forecast to increase by 20 per cent, according to Granada Ventures – this is double what it was worth in 2000.

Last season also saw huge increase in revenue for Arsenal branded merchandise, with an overall increase of 82 per cent. Video and DVD sales increased by 196 per cent; the official Arsenal annual sales increased by 80 per cent and calendar sales increased by 300 per cent in 2004.

Arsenal replica sales also had a good year and sales doubled year on year in the 2004/5 season and with the one off commemorative kit already selling impressively for 2005/6, Arsenal is set to have its best ever replica sales.

Arsenal is now one of the biggest clubs in the world. It has an estimated global fan base of 27 million people of which two million are in the UK, 11 million in Europe, 12 million in Australasia, two million in Africa and two million in North America.

Twenty per cent of all live matches broadcast in the UK (note: 2003/04 season) feature Arsenal and eighty nine per cent of people who support a Premiership football team say Arsenal is one of the top three most successful clubs ever. And Thierry Henry is ranked as the favourite Premiership player among all people who support a Premiership club.

To accommodate this new success, Arsenal will be moving to its new home, Emirates Stadium, for the 2006/2007 season. The naming rights of the stadium represents the biggest ever club football sponsorship deal.

A good warm-up yesterday, no complaints, the best team won on the day. I was happy with Arsenal's performance, I felt the boys could easily have won were it not for some Cech heroics and outstanding defence all round from Chel$. Fabregas looks tasty, as does Hleb, and Titi and RVP looked sharp already.

I think Arsenal coped admirably without Vieria, but perhaps not so well without Sol. Cesc and Flamini ran the midfield, but the defence appeared a little rusty. Senderos is only 20 so naturally he's gonna make mistakes, but other than a few suspect passes I though he looked solid, just perhaps not quite the finished Campbell replacement that many are touting him as, yet.

You mean the best team in terms of taking their chances. Chealsea had 3 shots on target and scored twice. I was pleased with Arsenals performance, the result did not mean anything cause last year we beat Man U 3-1. Both Drogba goals could have been prevented but he took them very well.

Chelsea got ahead early and played their usual game against top opposition.

Fabregas was outstanding! I thing Senderos did not play much preseaon games which explains why he was rusty.

I heard a rumour that Frank Lampard was playing .

HAHAHAHA

Yeah i agree you dominated, but its the skill of turning pocession into goals, plus Mourinho has a habit of soaking up pressure but still coming out with a win.

on the topic of saturday... i thort we played really well, and if it was a game judged on dominance of the ball then we wudve won convincingly, but the defences turned out to be the crucial factor imo, senderoes looked rusty and i was appauled by our defendin for the second goal (even tho drogba was offside :) ), i no everyones gunna say life after vieira and all tht but i thort fabregas shone and him and flamini coped with old fat frank and co. well, which suprised me. best bvit of the match 4 me was reys going through the middle of two chelski players with a nice bita skil, all i can say is rold on the trip to stamford bridge, and lets hope the tradition of win community shield >>>> lose championship roles on!!!

Chelsea pitch probe start

Weve come along way since then :p

I notice alot of Arsenal fans get the spelling of their former captain wrong...Vieira ;)

Against Chelsea Arsenal seemed to have lacked Vieira at certain points.

Plus he used to get "special treatment from refs" eg. a foul for a normal palyer would give him a yellow, but since vieira did it, its ok, and so he gets away with it. Now whos going to do this for the gunners?

The exact same thing can be said about some of your players.

What you smokin mate? Vieria is the most carded player in Prem history.

Yeah but come on, even the biggest Arsenal fan must admit he gets away with murder. Just watch the FA Cup final from May, he took down C. Ronaldo 3 times after being burned and Ronaldo was in threatening positoin on the right side of the penalty area, nad it wasn't until the last one that he got carded. Compare that with say, Heinze's carding in the first few minutes at Highbury earlier in the season. Plus I'm determined Vieira had some weird deal with refs that he was allowed to go in from behind with those long legs. I've never been able to work it out.

With him out, I actually kind of like the Arsenal squad now, other than Cole, he's a smug, diving, pre-madonna (just like C. Ronaldo :) )

Mourinho admitted that the early goal meant they could sit back and counter attack which you can't blame them for doing.

I went with another gooner plus a saint and a yid. Both of them couldn't believe how dull Chelsea's football was. For a team with so many great footballers why do they only play the long ball.

Did anyone else think the media was watching a different game? Drogba was rated a 9 in one paper and Cesc 6! I thought Drogba was piss poor, alright he scored 2 good finishes but that was all he did, i thought I misheard the PA when he won man of the match.

Anyway there's lot's of positives to take from that game. one being that there is no divide between the teams like the press make out, Hleb looks fantastic and Cesc is picking up where he left off. I also thought Toure looked to be getting his 03/04 form back and he was also making 98 Adamsesc darts forward.

Roll on the new season is what i say.

Hmm i disagree with your claims of us being dull. But you are entitled to your opinion. And Drogba was deservedly MOTM, maybe along with Maka, Terry and DelHorny:p, who all could have been MOTM. However, he kept causing problems for you by flicking on the ball using headers and using his strength and balance.

In relation to the article about Arsenal's brand name, i bought a Tshirt and the new home jersey while i was in London :D

Good man.

Don't mess with Ralf! Steely-eyed cold killer, he's probably dead friendly but he looks like he'd happliy rip your throat out and not even flinch.

The boys won 6-2 last night with a hatrick from JAR, 2 from Van the man and one from Bobby P.

Sky sports have linked Arsenal with Vincent Kompany: http://skysports.planetfootball.com/Article.asp?id=298071
He's a great young player, another Senderos?
