lucasetor said:I still feel like we will get Baptista even with the news of Real Madrid being interested. i do not see how he would love to join a team that has a player like Michael Owen coming off the bench. He will be stupid to think his World Cup chances will improve there.
Probably.jamie_mack said:Do you think the same will happen to Rio?
Real Madrid have agreed a €20 million (£13.8 million) fee, rising to €24.5 million for Sevilla striker Julio Baptista.
Sevilla confirmed they had accepted an offer for the Brazilian ace, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.
Baptista was interested in a move to the Premiership giants, but preferred to remain in Spain for the additional year required to secure an EU passport.
Sevilla could have been forced to accept a reduced offer for the 23-year-old's services next summer and have decided to cash in on their prized asset. "The only logical decision was to sell him," club president Jose Maria del Nido told the club's official website.
"Julio's representatives made it clear the player wanted to leave and they explained the new Fifa regulations coming into force after July 1, 2006 that would affect the relations between clubs and players.
"So it was the obvious decision to let him go." Baptista, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at El Santiago Bernabeu, will be unveiled by Real on Monday providing he passes a routine medical.
Wenger: Julio was a priority
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed Julio Baptista was one of the club's top summer targets.
The Brazil forward, who was strongly linked with a move to The Gunners, is set to complete a €20 million move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Ajax in the Amsterdam Tournament the French tactician revealed Baptista was high on the club's shopping list.
"I'm an optimist. For every player you miss it's an opportunity for a young player," said Wenger to Sky Sports.
"The good side is it will give a chance to the young players. He [Baptista] was, if not, our main target, but you have to accept that.
"We're not desperate. We wanted one player who could be a plus, a real plus, not just a good player.
"We wanted someone who could really give us more - or nobody."
So bascially you dont think Arsenal can win back the title without Vieira?hjj_russell said:this season might be a rebuilding excercise for the whole side in my opinion which is a shame because it would have been nice to see the trophy back at highbury for the final season
