Looks like Baptista is a done deal! Great signing and i see the yearly Viera transfer talks have started this time Juve!

Baptisita 2nd bid was rejected, and an anonymous English club offered the same amount as Arsenal.

It is believed to be newcastle or United.

The Viera thing is interesting, maybe moreso than last year. He is 29, so unless he wants to end his career at Arsenal (which would be great, I have so much more respect for players that have club commitment) he needs to leave this year to get experience in another league. And Juventus, well couldn't get a much better offer of where to go. I think Arsenal are a great team, and will compete in for top spots in all comps next year, but they're nto as 'big' a team as Juve. But we'll see I guess.
The beast would be a great signing, Arsenal could always use another foward. Whatever happened to Van Persie? Did the girl drop the charges, I never heard anymore about it.

Milan Arsenal 14/08/1996 £ 3,500,000
AS Cannes Milan 01/01/1996 NA

Are they signing Baptista because Edu left and they need to push Gilberto to a backup? Or is this Vieira to Juve serious.

Got this off teamtalk.com,if this is true...Why Goons, why?

Sevilla have accused Arsenal of tapping up transfer target and star striker Julio Baptista.Just months after leading the criticism of Chelsea in the wake of their illegal approach for full-back Ashley Cole, the Gunners have been accused of holding talks with Baptista without formal permission from Sevilla.Club president Jose Maria Del Nido insists that Arsene Wenger's talks with the striker last week in Brazil constituted a clear breach of Fifa guidelines. With Del Nido's latest accusations, Baptista's proposed transfer to the Premiership could become a very messy affair.

I guess Mr Wenger has picked up a new hobby?....ermm...Tap Dancing?

How long ago was this?

About 10 years ago now. He was at Milan for 6 months after leaving Cannes, and before joining the Arse. I hardly think this makes him an 'experienced' Serie A player :)

Baptista will not be coming to Arsenal this season but will not rule out a move next season. He will stay at Sevilla for one more season to gain his dual nationality and become a European citizen.

Even if he did come to Arsenal woudl this mean he would play a midfielder role or a striker role? A midfielder role would replace Gilberto right? Unless Vieira left to Juve or something. A striker role would replace Bergkamp up front and move Reyes to the right pushing Pires onto the bench right? Or is Pires still fit for a first team place?

It seems interesting that Arsenal haven't yet "bought big" this summer. Are we to expect that the chequebook will be coming out of David Dein's pocket (sewn-in pockets judging by past frugal spending - never a bad thing) anytime soon?

Just to diverge off the whole transfer craze; a friend if mine came to visit in Minnesota, and I met him at a barbeque wearing the new Arsenal commemorative kit. Damn, was I jealous. Luckily for me his cousin left today for London and I dished out some dough for a replica with my name on it, and of course, #15. Anybody else planning to kop this insane, orgasm inducing jersey?

Same here, went to Highbury to get I so I could have a wander round the stadium. Ithought the changing room facillities were pretty piss poor. I imagine they'll be slightly better at the emirates though!

wtf is going on with the Viera shit????

we friggin bend over backwards to keep him last year and now sell him for a lot less???

it dont make sense, why isnt someone at Arsenal stepping up and saying we will not sell our captain!

if Arsenal are going to sell him then Wenger must have a replacement lined up from somewhere? brazillian perhaps?

Personally,if I'm Wenger,I'd cash in on Vieira and Pires..you lot got them both for less than 5 million together and they are now old.Since Wenger always buys young promising players, why not eyy?

It makes perfect sense, when you consider that the player himself wants to leave.

Selling Pires and Vieira would be good for the club in terms of profit. If you want to make the most cash out of them, then you need to sell them now or never.

But you have to remember that losing Vieira means, you're losing your captain and losing Pires means you're losing that almost guaranteed 15 goals per season.

Lose Vieira and you lose the whole team. I don't think that all the players will play the same with him gone.
And Pires is still a great player, he's been injured too much, but he's been second top goal scorer without even being a striker.

I think that if he wants to go let him go. He doesn't love the club hence the reason he tries to leave every year.

Just let Wenger decide, he's not stupid! If Vieira goes there will be a replacement i'm sure.

I would love to see us get Essien, just for the pure comedy value!

Still you never know, Arsene and Houllier are mates so maybe a negotiation would take place rather than the C*UNTS from west london making some noise, unsettling the player and then trying to throw their money around.
