How heartaching was that - we were really poor today going forward, but immense in defence! I guess we been practicing penalties since the woeful ones we did again Galatasaray in the Uefa Cup Final.

Amazing end to a day...

Someone said something to me as i was leaving the pub..

......"oi u with the iceman shirt.. how sweet was that? In one week their house got sold... and today we robbed their house!"... We did indeed :D

:lmao: congrats

How much more satisfying is victory when you don't deserve it!

Old blue nose doesn't change though does it harping on about boring Arsenal! We played one game in the dull 4-5-1 we're notplanning on scoring formation and it was lucky but it worked. Goals win matches not your shots on target total.

Now come on Liverpool in the champions league! Not sure if you're aware but Liverpool will get to keep the trophy if they win it which means the Manu's pride and joy will be sitting in the Anfield trophy cabinet!

Its a pity how some of the ManU fans are trying to console themselves in the ManU thrad by saying stuff like Im happy we lost.............we outplayed them so we had a better season........bl.....ah. Pathetic. I mean I'm all for saying whatever makes you sleep at night, but I dont expect them to say it in public where they know Arsenal Fans like us will poke in and see their retarded attempts at self-appeasement. ManU won the league two years ago, won the FA cup last year + 3rd place, won nothing this year + 3rd place, am I the only one noticing a trend here.

The FA cup is nothing short of what Arsenal 'deserve' this season. I don't think anyone would argue that Arsenal were the better of the two teams in Cardiff on Saturday, but one uninspired game does not a 'lucky' team make. The Goon have played some magical football this season, enduring a threadbare squad for large parts of the campaign (no Sol for weeks, no Gilberto for 3/4 of the season, Edu making yo-yo appearances).

Arsenal have scored more goals than anyone else in the league and been involved in most of the classic encounters this season. Not just the 7-0 demolition of Everton, remember the 5-3 comeback vs Middlesbrough, the December 2-2 with Chel$ki, Henry's hatrick vs Norwich and of course, 5-4 at the Lane (personal favorite).

People like to talk about Arsenal's supposed dependence on Henry (not completely untrue, as Saturday showed) but the top 5 scorers read as follows;

1. Henry 30
2. Pires 17
3. Ljungberg 14
4. Reyes 12
5. Van Persie 10

Which most would agree is a very healthy list indeed. All in all at the begining of the season, Arsenal were still the 'invincibles', a tag line which proved as overblown as it did false following pizza-gate. Another lukewarm European display (as per) which is the real area for improvement, but the love affair with the FA cup continues as the Goon secure number 10.

Last but not least, don't discount the outstanding reserve side, some of which have burst into the 1st team and cured some real backup headaches (particualry Senderos), and others we could well see more of in the future, ie Quincy and Lupoli.

Overall season for me = 7/10.
Predictably, Arsenal struggled to live up to the mantle set by 03/04 and AGAIN fell short in Europe, but victory in the FA cup and the emergence of some real potential heroes makes tomorrow a brighter day. COME ON YOOOO GOOOOOONERS!!!!! :applause:

Atleast we have "Pride and Joy". ;)

I heard that if you win the CL 5 times, on the fifth time, you get to keep the trophy.

Does anyone here know how the seeding in the group stages works?

I really enjoyed Saturday, the tension during the game reminded me of the Liverpool final in 2001, it was unbearable!!

I won't go into too much detail about the match, many of the points I want to make have already been said. How we hung on for 120 mins to get to pens I don't know! But you have to give us credit for our battling performance. Man Utd played very well and our tactics surprised me, plus we looked jaded as well. Why play 4-5-1? We play 4-4-2 and play it very well so why the change? I am still mystified by this.

We must give Utd credit as well, as they played as well as I can remember against us. However if you don't score you don't win, and a combination of great goalkeeping by Jens, some poor Utd finishing and good luck on our part meant it went to pens. We all know what happened next and I guess in years to come the history books will say: 2005 FA Cup Winners - Arsenal FC. Thank you very much!!

I guess its also ironic that in a season where we have played some tremendous football, we win a trophy with possibly our worst display of the season (1 shot on goal in 120mins!). But thats Football, you win some, you lose some. Utd now know how we felt in 2001 and too be honest this makes it even more sweeter!!

We have now won a trophy in each of last 4 seasons, a brilliant achievement by everyone at the club. No other club in this land can match that statistic at this moment. That shows we have been consistently up there challenging (and winning!) honours during that time. I for one, am proud to be a Gooner!!

Later today I post a few photos that I took during and after the game.

Whole thing is rigged!

I bet no big team meet in the qualifying stages!

UEFA corrupt as they come

Milan won it 6 times, and are on their way for their 7th. In the Milan museum you can see the trophies.

So Manchester Red and White Sox could have Betis, Villarreal, Sporting Lisbon, Udinese, Inter, Monaco, Stuttgart, Bremen, Feyenoord or AZ...

but will most likely get C. Zvezda, Magyar Testgyakorlok Köre, Artmedia Petržalka, NK Gorica, PFC Levski Sofia or SK Rapid Wien... You damn right it's going to be rigged. I wanted Team USA to play against FC Pyunik in Armenia :(

is not complicated, in most competitions seeded teams/players are kept apart...

plus its a great oppurtunity for the lesser to teams for a giant kill or to make extra money from the gates/tv rights..

As promised here are some photos I took on Saturday.

Pre-match

Out come the teams!

Just before kick off

Kick off

We've won!

The Cup is ours!! Note the virtually empty Man U end :D

I had a great view of the pens actually as I was right behind them, every shootout I have seen the pens have been at the opposite end. Not complaining though.

Sorry no pics of Ronaldo blubbing, although I did see him him crying on TV later on!!

Seeing Rio Ferdinand cry was the highlight of my weekend. I read an interview where he admitted to crying when he found out that he was to miss 8 months for missing his drug test. Now that was some heavy stuff to take and I can accept that a few tears should be shed for something that could potentially ruin one's career. Therefore to see our banditry on Saturday evoke the same emotions from him just doubled the elated state I was under. Now, I know we didnt win the title this year, nor the Champions league, but I know one thing for sure: No Arsenal player had reason to bawl over anything this season. As a matter of fact only Chelsea and ManUtd had the need to engage in such behaviour over the course of the season. Now isnt this a priceless fact and one that should provide some solace from an OK season that, in all honesty, really wasn't that much of a disappointment.
Looking forward to next year

lol have you got so used to not being able to retain a title that its no longer a dissapointment....

and after the hype of last years "invincibles" did it not bother you to have that shoved back down your throats, lol 50 and not out classic!

I must admitt winning the FA Cup makes things look better, and I cant be mad at you's for that after you's have had to watch us win all these trophies and finish behind us so many times, not to mention the semi in 99' and last year..

So...

Congrats!!

So we havnt retained the title, but to be considerd truly the third best team in England you must finish third in consecutive seasons.
So Man United....Congrats

The only reason why Arsenal fans didnt moan this season is because their standards arent set so high. Which is a sign of a team that doesnt expect success.
If your team went undefeated for a season and then lose the crown by quite a margin should piss anyone off.
This can only mean two things. You're either easily satisfied, which you shouldnt be if you support a team as good as Arsenal or you're just not a very passionate fan.

Some gems for you gooners

I havent met a single Arsenal fan whos not disappointed to loosing to Chelsea by such a big margin but i believe if we had kept every one fit we would of given Chelsea a closer run but hey we can all talk in hindsight and Wenger has said hes gonna spend money in the summer to strenghen the squad.
The fact is this season weve played the best football in the league, finished second, not lost to the champions, weve got some decent young players who from there experiance are only going to be better next year and weve got some silverwear in the cabinet... more then what any Manc can say

So considering the circumstances i guess yes for this season i am satisfied but still disapointed, but that doesnt mean i dont expect my team to be succesfull next season

Thats bullshit. Chelsea have been the best team by a mile. Not only can they show some entertaining football at times, but they also defend which is one thing Arsenal cant do.

Yes we finished 3rd but the champions have broken our all time points record so technically we would have only won the title if the current season was the best season we had in over a decade, which isnt easy if you consider 1999. We also had TONS of injuries (more than any other team in the country) at the start of the season which cost us valuable points. So theres no shame in losing out on the title to Chelsea.
In the Carling Cup, we lost in the semis to Chelsea in another close encounter (without our full first team BTW). So again, no shame in losing there either.
In the FA Cup, we lost in the final where we definately should have won but were unlucky. After seeing replays of Rio's early goal which was ruled out, you can clearly see that he was ONSIDE but cuz Ruud was offside, it didnt count. According to FIFA's new Offside rule, Ruud wasnt interfering with the play and didnt make any contact with the ball so really that goal should have counted. I'm not gonna bitch about it but my point is, again we were robbed and shouldnt be ashamed of anything there either.
And finally, we lost to AC Milan who look favourites to win the European Cup. Losing to the eventual champions isnt a bad thing cuz if you cant beat them, you dont deserve to win the trophy anyway. Its better to lose early than to make it to the semis and lose. Of course theres the financial benefits but the more games you play, the tighter the fixture list is gonna be. Its not worth staying in the CL unless you're gonna make some serious progress like making it to the final.
So really looking back at our season, you cant really blame us for our performances cuz we were either unlucky or simply lost to the eventual champions.
Looking ahead to next season, we already have a transfer budget but Glazer is promising a further £20million.
We also start our Pre-season a few weeks earlier than the rest of you so we're gonna get some valuable match practice before the big season.
We will also be completely injury free.
We have IMO the best reserve team in the country (4 trophies out of 5 including the reserve league title) so there will definately be some great players coming through that are just as good as the likes of Fabregas and Van Persie.
Other positives from this season is that we signed Smith, Rooney and Heinze who have been outstanding.
Ronaldo and Fletcher have also have improved significantly.

I wrote so much, I think I'll have to quote the post again just to remind you of my point.
