Don't get me wrong now, I think Cambell is England's best defender and a very very good defender;
Not the best in Europe though. That's where the TAD overrated comes in.

well its all down to opinion and what you like in defenders. I spose a better showing by arsenal in the CL or England in Euro 2k4 would have raised his profile.

I saw almost every Euro 2004 game and I gotta say that the MVP of the tournament for me was Sol Campbell. The man was an absolute rock on defense and played with power, grace and speed. He demonstrated great quickness for a man of his mass, and a masterful defensive touch. More so than Rooney, he was England's best player IMO.

I think you Engerlanders have got something special at the next WC with Campbell and Ferdy anchoring the back, with Cole coming up, and Gerrard and Lamps orchestrating the middle. If Rooney continues to improve and someone like Dyer or Cole breaks out, you guys will be a tough ass team to beat.

BTW - what can ya tell me about this Van Persie kid?

I can tell ya that he look's fuckin' quality! His awareness of the game is superb, and his passes for two of Reyes' goals against Barnet were top notch. Did you see his goal!? Outstanding!!

No - they havent shown highlights of preseason games over here sadly. What position and side will he play. Can you give me a projected lineup for this season? PEACE

lol MVP, I love that term.

Big Sol was the man at the Euro's when him and Rio get tohether for the WC it'll be something else.

As for Persie, well the kid has got talent but his attitude stinks, Ruud has commented about it and the players from his own team had a party, when he left, and I'm not joking either.

Maybe Wenger will fix up the kids attitude.

If you know a place where I can host a 9MB video, tell me, and I'll put it for everyone to see. It's worth watching. Lots of fabulous goals including a traditional Bergkamp free-kick which I hadn't seen for some time, Reyes Cruyff turn, vn Persie's bullet. Speaking of Bergkamp, van Persie's touch of the football is so much like his, it's astounding. He's going to be very big, and the fact that his transfer was so low-profile will really surprise the media when he finally shows his full potential. The great man hismelf, Van Basten, already regards him as oen of the best of the new generation of youth coming through (the other is Sneijder, no complaints there). It's shame he wasn't at Euro 2004, due to lack of playtime more than anything else. He had indifferences with the Feyenoord boss and was left out of most games. As for starting line-up, I don't think he'll be in it just yet. He says he doesn't like to play on the wing but his performance there against Barnet, granted they're not superb, was excellent and that's where he'll end up eventually, I think. Wenger's player power could make him play there and I think he could be Pires' eventual successor. Here's my projected line-up for next season.

------------------Lehmann------------------
-----------Toure--------Campbell----------
--Trabelsi---------------------------Cole---
----------------------------------------------
--------------Vieira-----Edu/Gil-------------
---Freddie--------------------------Pires----
-----------------------------------------------
-------------Reyes---------Henry-----------

Obviously if Vieira goes that'll be a bit different. They're boundless possibilities for 'replacements'. Wenger might move Toure up front and buy a world-class defender with the money; but two good midfielders (Hargreaves and Gerrard are the two big names being touted); uncover another hidden gem etc. etc. Nobody can truly replace Veieira however so I hope he stays and in my heart of hearts I think he will. Oops, this has drifted onto Vieira talk again. Any more questions you have, go ahead.

Cambells a ball winner thru and thru, his presence is great and hes a beast, if he tackles you, you bloody well know it, but he aint the best in the world because his distribution of the ball is so poor.

I hate Real Madrid for tapping Viera and that something tells me Zidane has been used to get to him by Real, no doubt before Euro2004 the president probably had a few words with him.

According to few other sites, we could be completed the signing of Trabelsi today as well as l'OM midfielder Mathieu Flamini. :-k

When I saw Marseille play last season this guy was one of the standouts and he's only 20-years-old too. Very much what Wenger likes, you know, young and French. I hadn't heard much of him till last season but apparently he's made an amazing journey from the reserves to one of the first names on the starting line-up. Now, he's one of France's hottest prospects. Hopefully, ThomasGOAL or someone can swing by here and give us some more information.

Here's some pictures of the lad. And don't you start...

yeah BBC says hes signing.

The Sun also reports Zidane is ringing Viera constantly, which is exactly what I think is the catalyst to make Viera move.

And Edu's dreaming of Barcelona!!

I think Quicker the new stadium comes the better, it will keep players and make others want to come here, also I think we need to get far in Champions League this season or next as thats when I think the current team wil fall apart.

wow and with Cambell's contract finishing this season and Juve sniffing its not looking good for the current champs....

Wengers not daft though, if he gets good money for Paddy I'm sure he'll spend it wisely.

Get 30 mill and Beckham off Real then buy Gerrard with the 30 mill

There we go i have sorted it for Arsene now :)

I know it's just the nature of the business, but I think that Vieira at least owes it to the coach who had so much faith in him when his career wasn't exactly at its highest point to make a frank admission as to whether he wants to leave Arsenal or not.

Out of curiosity, how do you guys measure up Maniche? I know he's had a great Euro2004 and a good season with Porto, but will he be enough to fill the void should Vieira leave?

P.S. Beckham is not a player I want to see at Arsenal. He plays a different kind of football and I think he's bad luck :)

I dont think its that big of a loss to be honest if he does go

30 Million can buy you a hell of a lot these days and at 28 hes no spring chicken

Gerrard or Maniche and a couple of more players would fill the void well imo

dude Real aint even paying £30mill for him, you dont have to pay top wack when the player wants to go.

You do when the player has got three years left on his contract or whatever Vieira has left, unless you fancy sitting around until he's 31 to get him on a Bosman.

Arsenal Eye Maniche
The agent of Porto midfielder Maniche claims Arsenal have shown an interest in luring the 26-year-old to Highbury. Speculation continues to link Patrick Vieira with a move to Real Madrid, leaving Arsene Wenger with a large hole to fill in his line-up. And Portuguese international Maniche, impressive at Euro 2004, is one player to have been linked with the English champions. 'Yes, I can confirm that Arsenal have shown their interest,' his agent Paulo Barbosa said.

Interesting... looks like Arsene is getting ready for the worst.. Vieira pissing off to Madrid.

Maniche is a quality player though.

I'd be sad to see Vieira go but with 35 million we could get anyone.

Yeh it sure does, but imagine the Real midfield, what they could then do. ZIdane Vieira Becks Figo. But Maniche is really good though, he can take long shots, his passing is accurate, hes a perfect midfielder. His defending side is about as good as his attacking.

Maniche would be a top quality signing imo, but what the hell are Porto up to, theyre ripping their team apart.

Bah you suck str for posting that, brought my hopes up you prankster

well what the fuck is happening, so much speculation like The Sun is running the story that FIGO has told everyone that Vieras on his way, apparently his agents the man in London trying to negotiate everything, then you have Maniche being linked to fill the gap and bAH!!!!!!!!

Its all well and good when other teams players are being splashed across the pages but when its your own its not very nice is it.

The Maniche story really holds no ground. It's just his agent being opportunistic.

I long grew tired of the Vieira situation. It started, just like all summers with untruths because newspapers had to be sold in the summer months. In the rumour's sophmore stage, it got a bit more intresting than previous years because there were 'inside sources' mentioning that Vieira might want a change of scenery. Everyone got a bit worried. People started overreacting with this bullshit Domino theory where Henry, Wenger and everyone down to the club's most loyal custodian will be leaving if the captain goes. Now, it's suddenly all died down again and the papers are coming up with more bullshit, just like at the start. As I see it, Vieira is in Austria with the team now so that points towards him staying, which is great. I don't think Wenger would keep a player against his will in the squad. That would ruin all the chemistry and spirit we have. No player is bigger than the club, and I'd rather let Vieira go if he did want to leave rather than have him around.

If reports are to be believed, he's asking for a 5-year contract but the club are offering a 3-year deal with the possibility of an extension. Wenger rarely comes public about such matters unless he thinks they can be resolved so, considering the quality of the player, I think a compromise will be met. I really hope so. Although Lauren is good, this guy is just class.

Lauren is good but is essentially a converted Midfield player. He is the wek link in our defence IMO. His positional sense is poor at times and is not as attacking as Ash. Trabelsi would offer greater attcking options as well as being a solid right back.

In another matter, we aren't we going in for Nicky Butt? If Vieira does go then Butt could do a job for us. He has won the lot, has big game experience and would be perfect for us. Question is, would ManUtd sell him to us? I think not.. :(

In the papers today that Madrid think they can get Vieira for 15million LMAO!!!

Hes still got 2 years on his contract iirc, what the hell thinks they can come and pay 15mil for the best defensive midfielder in the world?

Madrid, They crack me up

well sorry but please dont make out Nicky Butt could cover Viera!!!!!!

Theirs only one V I E R A !!!!!!!!!

Shit I hope he doesnt leave :(

BBC reports his personel deal is done and its just down to Arsenal to agree a fee.

The only other person id like is maybe someone like davids to come in or seedorf.

Seriously hate Real Madrid now, hope them bastards win nothing again.......
