Kanu released by Gunners

Kanu played only 10 League games last season
Arsenal have confirmed that Nigerian international striker Kanu will be leaving Highbury, along with Martin Keown and Sylvain Wiltord.
The trio are on a list of 17 players that have been released by the Gunners.

Kanu, 27, had limited opportunities in the first-team last season and has been linked with a move to Charlton.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is interested in signing Keown, 37, while 30-year-old Wiltord is keen on a move to Arsenal's arch-rivals Tottenham.

Latvian defender Igor Stepanovs, who spent last season on loan with Belgian club Beveren, has also left, along with reserve goalkeeper Rami Shaaban.

Alex Bailey, Stephen Bradley, Liam Chilvers, Craig Holloway, Nicky Nicolau, Michael Papadopulos, Paulinho and Ashley Probets are the other senior professionals to leave.

And youth team players Sam Kanu, Dean McDonald, Dorian Small and Hassan Sulaiman have not had their contracts renewed.

Cleaning out the closet !!!!!

I think with all these people offloaded certain funds will be available to buy some players, at least 1-2 more probably after Euro2004.

From Sky Sports:

ARSENAL MAKE TRABELSI MOVE
Friday 2nd July 2004

Arsenal are believed to have agreed a deal with Ajax for their outstanding full back Hatem Trabelsi.
The 27-year-old had been looking to leave the Amsterdam ArenA on a free transfer, and the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and Milan were all ready to pounce.

However, the Dutch courts ruled that Ajax had a legal option to extend his deal - meaning he was still tied to the Dutch champions.

Newcastle United tried to land the Tunisian earlier this summer, but their move faltered when they tried to bypass the player's agents and go straight to Ajax.

As Sir Bobby Robson was lining up another bid, Arsenal have stepped in and agreed a fee of around £3 million for the right back.

Trabelsi is now expected to agree terms over the next week and should complete a move soon after.

Wenger has moved for the African as he obviously feels he needs extra cover at right back with Lauren currently filling that role, although it would be expected that Trabelsi would emerge as first choice.

Bayern Munich full back Willy Sagnol, also a target for Arsenal, stated earlier this year that Wenger was looking to replace Lauren.

Despite Trabelsi's imminent arrival, Lauren - who can also play in midfield - is unlikely to be surplus to requirements at Highbury as another reason for Wenger signing a new full back is to make sure Kolo Toure remains in the central of defence rather than having to provide cover.

Trabelsi, however, will not be the first summer signing for Wenger as he is expected to complete the siging of Celta Vigo goalkeeper Manuel Almunia in the next few days.

The 27-year-old has already agreed terms on his £500,000 switch and should arrive in England over the weekend.

Hmm, didn't see this one coming. Anyway we could do with cover at rightback. This may see Lauren push forward into midfield. He is more suited there and have never beed entriely comfortable with him at right back. His positional sense at times is shocking. Trabelsi is class, so hopefully we can pull this one off.

Trabelsi sounds interesting... I wonder if he'll replace Lauren though?

Anyway, the new home kit is being launched in 6 days time, next Thursday, the 8th July.

Looks like we've landed this young Italian lad Arturo Lupoli. I don't expect it to be up at arsenal.com yet but the club's always slow and discreet with new signings anyway. He looks like an exciting lad, and I've been told he's one of the better potentials in the Parma youth.

I did a search for him on google and came across this handy Italian site. It's pretty easy to navigate and there's a picture of U-17 Parma squad there. I've singled him out with the unseen powers of MS Paint in this picture:-

Manure-bound lad Giuseppe Rossi is also in the picture but I couldn't care less.

BTW, some of you CM players might have been to the site before, it has quite a few pictures of Cerci and Simonetta.

Nah, 27's a good age. I don't know what games you've been watching but when I've seen him play for Ajax he's been amazing and was even better when he won the African Cup of Nations with Tunisia. Granted, the challenge of the Eredivisie and African nations isn't as great as the EPL but he's still a very, very good full-back, imo. Certainly better than Ralph in defensive terms and jsut as good, if not better when going forward. I just hope Newcastle don't snatch him away from us, as has been reported in a few tabloids.

RuneEdge, I couldn't believe it either and am still a little suspect. Apparently he broke the record of most goals scored. Also, Rossi (who he's 'best friends' with) also scored a bagful - around 35.

Sad news for Parlour about his divorce. :( Bloody gold-digger. He's not getting his contract renewed either now. I hope he doesn't go off to any other club. He's been such a great servant, I'd really love it if he could stay here for a few more years. Not to mention, he's a great squad player and can lift a team with ease and will continue chasing the ball in the dying seconds of a match. I hope he doesn't decide to leave.

Well thats just my opinion STR, ive seen him play for Ajax a few times and he's been pap (and thats nothing to do with who i support . . . . . .honest ;) )

I respect it, just don't agree with it. All I know is that he's definitely better than Ralph, and if he was the EPL's best RB last season, then this will just make us stronger next year (especially in Europe). Anyway, I don't want to get ahead of myself here - Juventus, Milan and Newcastle are after him too. Hopefully, he's headed to Highbury though (can't say London anymore - fukin' Chelsea ;))...

ALL this Vieira bullshit and no comment in these threads!!!! Don't blame you, we go through the same bull shit every bloody year.

Yeah exactly what Nicky said. It's an annual thing now. Just don't read the papers or listen to talk sport for a week or so.;)

Yeh if you guys did let Vieira go, your midfield would definitely be substantially weaker. However, with Morientes parttnering Henry up front, and Reyes on the left (as Pires wont be there forever now will he) would make a very dangerous attack.

I wouldn't say that. Being devil's advocate here but let's just be hypothetical; if we were to let Vieira go NOW, it would probably be the best time. He's served us tremendously well for, what, the last eight years or so and really owes nothing to the club. We coped very well without him during his suspension and injury last season so he isn't as a mighty force in our team as he had to be before. And if the sale did go through, we would be getting a VERY large sum of money for him which could buy a more than adequate replacement. There's no doubt about one thing however, he is the best player in his postion in the world at the moment and it's obvious why Madrid want him.

Again, this is all just conjecture based on what we've seen in the press lately and I'm almost certain Vieira won't leave us. However, every summer for the last four years this rumour has surfaced and i start to conjure up the consequences to the club if the sale did go through only to find out in the end the rumour is just paper talk and wishful thinking from one of the bigger morons in football (Perez). Hopefully, this summer won't be any different.

Can I have some insight on the following. I'm hearing Cambell has problems agreeing to a new deal with Arsenal due to that Arsenal want to cut Campell's wages in half.

Is this all true? and what next?

I found it hilarious last summer when Perez and Valdano were talking about Chelsea using underhanded techniques. Fucking c*nts! Now i don't agree with the monetary vacuum that the Cossack has bought into the game, but i found it intriguing when they were actually quaking in their boots that some of their stars would be going to the Bridge.

Also, on a lighter note, can you actually see that public stunt at the training ground with Vieira? I mean, some kid squeezing under a fence wearing a vieira shirt and then hugging him. That candyfloss shit might work with the tree hugger Beckham, but i can't see 'Le Saucisson' being mobbed!

Yeah it is, he gets 96k a week atm. He gets more than anyone cos we got him on a bosman and he got a huge signing on fee with his contract, but when his current contract is up, his wages will be significantly reduced.

You guys went down to Barnet however Reyes got you back in the game with a 3 minute double. 38 Mins now.

Yes and Arsenal went on to win by nine goals, and I think Chelsea went down and ended up drawing with Oxford. Kezman scored at least.

10-1. Sounds like a cracker of a game. Sad I didn't get to see it but have a few pictures to go by. Jeffers bagged a hat-trick along with Reyes. Van Persie apparently hit a belter and according to some of my mates who watched the game he was sensational with virtually all plays going through him. Good news. I hope to see some video footage later.
By the by, Cesc's new hair is shocking - he looks just like Morientes. Certainly a change from what I saw of him on Futbol Mundial a few weeks ago.

I want to keep my lips shut on Vieira to Real Madrid at the moment because, sadly, the news I'm hearing is not very good at all. :l

yeah its well known that Cambell will not be offered the same deal as when he signed three years ago, the new offer will put him in the same bracket as Viera, Henry etc apparently Juve are sniffing round with a 3mill a year offer.
