Answered your own question there. Because £25 is a more sensible valuation for what is, essentially, a tweaked version of a game I bought six months ago, with less features. If you're happy to spend £40 on it that's fine, but to other people £40 is a lot of money so it's about putting your own value on things and prioritising.
 
Great post, nerf. Sums up exactly what I hate about the defending in this game. I love attacking in FIFA10. Sure it's not perfect but it pretty much responds to my button presses with good accuracy and I can create plays that I can see in my head.
But when it comes to the opponent being on the attack, that problem that you explained above is one of the main reasons why I hate defending. I know it would make attacking harder but I'd prefer the game to be a lot slower so that it's closer to the pace of the real game and for you to have to work the ball to your attackers like you said.

If they could just add this into WC2010 for the FIFA11 release, I'm sure I'd absolutely love the game.
 
Im loving this game more and more because of the goals u can score on it, like this one, imo impossible to score on past fifas(nothing fancy, but u just coulndt score on low crossed shoots on the past games if ur player wasnt facing the corner u were shooting at, this opened a hole lot variaty of goals now):

That's a really nice exchange and finish, bruno.

In relation to what I posted above, if you pause that video when the Italian left winger releases the ball (0:16), that's exactly the constantly available forward pass I mentioned. Just bypasses the entire midfield and basically puts Italy 2-on-2 in the attacking third without even trying.
 
Why does a qualification with Brazil feel so different from a qualification with England? With Brazil the game feels so much slower and enjoyable....
 
The Custom Tactics of your team and your opponents, maybe? Do England and their qualification opponents have much higher settings for Build Up Speed & Pressure than Brazil and their opponents?

To follow on from my posted review i got to share my qualification with you guys. I was 2nd in the table with Croatia (home) Ukraine (away) and finally Belarus (home) left to play. When i played Croatia in Zagreb they spanked me 3-1. and it could have been more. They pressed and harrased me and bullied me off the ball. Well the return game, a rainy night at Wembley was totally different. They sat back more, was more cautious and i dominated the game. It showed a real difference in the home and away mentalitys of teams in this game. Despite dominating it finished 0-0. So off to Ukraine i went with them breathing down my neck in 3rd place, Another 0-0 draw and a very drab game and performance. So it went to the last game against Belarus at Wembley. A rainy night under the arch and i swear i saw Hleb give me a wink when lining up for the national anthem :SHOCK:
All i needed to do was draw or win as Ukraine could only level with me on points at best, then i would be in a play off. Croatia couldnt be caught. Well i went with 3 forwards. Rooney spearheading, Young on the left and Lennon on the right. Walcott was again out injured. 3 times ive had him injured during my qualifying campaign. I started like an express train. Rooney missed a 1 on 1 chance. Then the game started slipping away from me. I could feel it. I was starting to panic. Making stupid decisions and was getting really annoyed with myself. Hleb again was doing tricks and flicks and was causing me real problems. Then it happened. A Belarus goal. Stupid error made at back when i should have just hoofed clear. I had only 15 minutes left. The score cam in from the Ukraine game....they were winning/ I was going out if i couldnt score. All those games would be for nothing. I went all out attack. Then 4 minutes of injury time came up. Then with my last attack, Lennon cut in from the wing, skipped past the challenge of the defender, stumbled but kept possesion, darted into the box and with his left foot struck the ball into the left hand corner, in off the post. GOAL!!!!! Off the settee i lept. What a feeling. Whistle blew, 1-1...phew! I had crept into the play offs. I had Romania. A 1-1 draw in Bucharest led too a nervy return game in London. They were missing Chivu for the 2nd game due to suspension and another player whose name i cant remember, but they were weakend. So was i, No Ferdinand, out for 3 games (should be days/weeks/months IMO). I snuck it with a 1-0 victory. A tight game. The relief i felt was enormous. This is what this game brings to the table that fifa10 didnt. Then i sat back and watched the live draw (nice touch). So off to the world cup tonight.....Im loving this game.

Yep, that are the flaws that are trashing the franchise and were introduced in fifa 09. The thing is they get worse with every iteration. The way you can do this pass to the forward EVERYTIME makes playing the game useless, even in full manual against friends.

Like you, I won't buy FIFA 11 if they haven't sorted this out. It's the first thing I tried in Fifa 10 and the first I tried on the demo of World cup, and had a total let down.

Defensive AI is the main problem of this game, not the rest. It doesn't matter if they have the best physics around, or the biggest goal variation. If there's no midfield, there's no game.

Big true. 100% agree. I am starting to think that they don't resolve that issue on purpose so the game don't become too "simulation". But they need to understand thats we are looking for. A perfect football simulation. Also if they are gonna make the defensive AI to behave realistically they have to make attacking AI more clever to balance the game out. AI in general is a priority along with some other important stuff like cameras, fatigue effects and tactics.
 
this game like fifa 10 can be played like a proper football match depending on the guy with the controller

BUT it gives the person all the tools to completely turn this into an arcade game. one touch 100mph passing,same scriped boring play online

all i ask is to please seperate me from these people, stick me on a different server if needs be. let me define a filter at the start of the game

simulation or arcade

-simulation gives me the slower gameplay with manual controls.

-arcade gives me the faster gameplay and assisted controls

then stick me with the rest of the like minded people online and then i can enjoy most of the games out there

this game can still be played without real care. creating a fast paced arcade style game

This still doesn't make your own team AI play realistic. I would say that is one of the main faults with the FIFA games, not that other people online play lame.

i don't play offline , only online

and i play clubs for that matter so i will have other people controlling players

as for this game in particular give me a manual v manual game and this game is good enough even with flawed AI

put assisted in the mix, super stat players and the way people think about winning at all costs rather than try to recreate the beautiful game. then this game is flawed

when you have a manual v manual game, the majority of people who use manual try and play the game as a real life football game. manual controls kind of forces you to anyway. so for me manual removes alot of the problems imo
 
Fifa players have different views on what is the biggest flaw and for us clubs people there is no doubt that control difference is the biggest issue. Manual clubs.....ooooh :)
 
I agree with you there. But that would give you a realistic sunday league experience (which a lot of people can already get in real life). If you want a simulation of professional football you need 1 vs 1 online or the offline modes with good AI.

I'm with bitter. Although I play mostly against the CPU.

Just got World cup this morning and had a couple of games.

Playing on all manual I played an England vs Scotland, Argentina vs Chili and Italy vs Turkey.

Noticed shots on manual are a bit more forgiving but the actual shots themselves seem to have more zip about them. had a couple of great shots saved which were great (been better if they went in :)) )

I noticed in my games though I scored about 3 goals easily at the near post? don't know if that is common place, but seemed abit too easy. but I have only played a few games.

I have alot more control over the keeper coming out aswell, which is brilliant. If you time it right and you can move abit more to the side, so saving one on ones is alot better.

Anyway, I am pleases with it so far, but wasn't expecting too much.

The defensive AI can be shocking at times, but it isn't a game killer for me.
 
Nerf i wasn't quite sure where your video screenshots were going until i scrolled down to the last one.

Then i laughed at Puyol's incompetence.

Then i cried because 99% of the game's demographic don't notice these things and i'm sure EA aren't even looking to try and change it because of that. Honestly they could release FIFA 11 as exactly the same game as FIFA 10 and as many people would buy it as bought Fifa 10. That's the cushion they have, when they released FIFA 08 they definitely looked like they had the drive to make the game more popular and better than PES. Maybe that drive does still exists but it is definitely not evident.

FIFA is an arcade game masquerading as a simulation where as it's competitor PES is a simulation which has problems that makes it look like an arcade game. There's a conundrum.

You can, options are full and something else that I can't remember (qualify?) full = qualification + friendlies. I'm doing Brazil and England qualifiers without friendlies so it is possible, just change the option before starting.
 
A few question for people playing online.

1. Is it possible to play a classified match with a game? Everytime I invite a friend or I go in a room and a friend join me, the result is just a friendly match

2. Is is possibile to set a REMATCH option?

3. No extratime and pentalties at all?

Finally got a chance to sink my teeth into the game this weekend, and I would really suggest anyone who has enjoyed Fifa in the past, but was disappointed with FIFA 10 (I certainly was) to give this game a go, whether you play online or offline. It's still early and of course after a few weeks of play the warts might start coming to the forefront but at the moment, I am very happy with this.

Won't go into a long review but a few good things I can point out:

-STANDING CHALLENGE PENS!!! I had one against the AI the other day dribbling with Camoranesi, couldn't believe my eyes

-Less ping pongy(???) This could possibly be that I have not yet come up against the cheesers online, but so far from the games I've played they have been extremely enjoyable. Teams seem to not be able to ping the ball around as it seems in this game first time passing has been toned down. I also feel more apt to build up play in midfield though I'm not sure what the major contributing factor is to this... but the game seems slower and minor tweaks have made it close to feeling just right.

-AI is fun to play against! Although I've seen some people here say that the AI can still pass at 90% with lower teams, I simply haven't seen this. I play on legendary and have tried playing against Brazil, then against teams like Greece, USA etc. and the teams really played about how they should, and I've been extremely impressed with this as this has obviously not been the case in FIFA, ever.

-Players use their correct foot more on shots. I actually saw Messi open up his body to score a goal with his left where in prior FIFAs he would have definitely used his right. Really important improvement for me.

-I will cautiously say defending has been improved... though I have read that they did not change anything from the demo I haven't seen much of the 'puyol defending 6 yards off the attacker in the box' crap... I hope it stays that way because that was my biggest problem with FIFA 10 of all. Defenders still have trouble defending diagonal runs but I usually compensate by taking control of the player getting run at.

-This is probably completely random but playing in random head to head ranked matches I haven't seen the usual 'everyone picks spain' syndrome - I've played against Egypt, Colombia, and some other weaker teams, hope it stays this way cause the games have been great.

Now there are still things missing such as player traits, or the huge difference in passing u should see with players like Pirlo, but overall the game so far has been a pleasant surprise and well worth the $$!

As above:

Full = qualification, friendlies, finals.
Qualify = qualification, finals.
Finals = finals only.
 
Oh dear...what a bug!

Was playing a single match as Scotland and didn't bother going into Squad menu before kick-off as I assumed the match would kick off with the edits to the starting lineup and formation I'd made and saved in edit mode yesterday.

However, as the team formation window was displayed in the graphic just before kick-off, I thought I noticed Kristof Berra (CB) and Alan McGregor (GK!). They weren't supposed to be in my starting line up.

Anyway, the match kicked off, and I was getting the impression that I had very few players in attack. I actually took the lead in a break-away goal, but after about 15 minutes, decided to stop and count the number of players by going into a replay and carefully counting them.

I had only 9 players on the pitch! I had started the match with only 9 players! Berra and McGregor weren't even on the pitch.

Quit the match and went to the Team Edit menu and both Darren Fletcher and James McFadden (both star players)had been erased and replaced with blank named players with ratings of 5 (out of 100).

Had the same thing happen, except when I first loaded and went to play with Australia. Inexcusable.
 
I'm not sure if anybody has posted this before but the penalty system in this game is a little off....they made it too complicated.
 
I love them (the penaltys) too and think they've got it pretty much spot on. Very good balance between your skill, the player, realism, arcade and situation in the game. It's true though that you should try the training mode so that you get to see the blue area, gives you a better idea of how it works. Just hoping they're working on something similar for free kicks (which sucks) for FIFA11.

Overall I'm enjoying the game very much. Sure, there are flaws but they've polished a lot of the things that were starting to bother me in FIFA10 (such as chesting, heading etc) while I love the new stadiums and really enjoying playing with small obscure teams against manual people playing the game properly (while I actually even can stand playing some assisted people in Online World Cup with my Liechenstein, reached the quarter finals so far).

Looking really good for FIFA11 too. :)
 
Yeah penalties are the best thing about this game. To the people that complain, do you have the Player bar visible so you can see the composure thing? I can understand that people that don't have that visible will find it too hard.

Just go to practise area and activate the penalty indicator so you can see how it works if you still find it too hard. It's a good system, pretty much like PES 2010 but not as sensitive (the aim moves much slower).
