2010 FIFA World Cup

Played the demo some more today and I'm actually going to buy this! (well, trade in some as its not worth £40, but trading in FIFA and PES).

Some of the goals are beautiful and very lifelike (this morning, long deep cross in from Ramos and Torres had peeled away from his marker and headed back across the keeper, just dropped beautifully into the net - looked amazing).

Perhaps in August I'll buy FIFA back to get some league action, but for now, its all about the World Cup!

in FIFA 10 finding people who play semi-assist was very hard and I guess for you manual players it was even harder.

involved In a little community playing semi assist settings and really enjoying it. I'd prefer to play all manual to be honest as in this day and age that's how footy games should be played! It was hard enough getting a few together to play semi though!! So as a compromise it will have to do. Chipping is very frowned upon too.

if interested, PM me.

Having played some CYC, I've noticed they've sorted out the home/away thing, where playing any team at home is easier than away.

Also, unlike Euro2008, playing Liechtenstein and such like is not the hardest match anymore. Yes, every cpu team ends every match with passing accuracy of around 90%, but that doesn't mean they've been stupidly hard to beat and retain possession with Barca like passing for minutes at at time. But I did have to work my socks off to get a late equaliser against France, who were clearly the best team I played against in my group. Good.

And yes, I agree, shooting/finishing is now better.

This is the first FIFA game that I've been able to tolerate playing against the cpu.

Edit: and I also agree with gameklip about top players getting tackled but still retain the ball. I've been playing as Russia and Arshavin is noticably more elusive in tackles, and has scored a few precious screamers from around 25 yards. CPU defending is generally still incredibly one-dimensional and has always made the game against the cpu so unenjoyable, but it's slightly less bad now.

Not entirely true as it only seem to occur on Legendary and World Class (which are retardedly hard, like, you get no time on the ball at all unless you're on assisted and ping-pong'ing it around like a madman).

Been playing the Asian WC qualifications with Japan on Pro level/Slow/Manual settings and weak teams such as Thailand and Bahrain generally end up with 65~75% passing accuracy.

Just played the demo. The chest control is brilliant in this. Just love the whole feel to this game. The only thing stopping me from buying is that I know not many people will want to play this past july when the World Cup is over.
But hey, it looks great for FIFA 11.

Is it just my PS3 copy but tried to practice Pens and tried a Pen shoot out and the composure bar never came up so each Pen was just random luck?...

Played the first few games of the Full WC and it is tighter than 10 and the shooting and heading is improved, I didn't get a pen in the game so could not check if the bar comes up!...

Only managed a few games before my hand was on fire but it seemed quite good! Can someone check the pen thing by the way I use 3D radar option, Thanks!...:PIRATE:

anyone got any tips on penalties.

I can hit it just to the side of centre or miles wide. nothing remotely in the corner

Cheers

I see a lot of gamers exploiting the one-two pass, using it almost constantly in the place of any normal pass. I wonder why this is. Rubbish off the ball movement? Defensive AI being too dumb to cope with the runners? Probably a heavy mixture of both, I guess.

Really liking it so far. Started a quallifying campaign with England, but only to test it out. I oddly hate playing as England (and southend on FIFA) in these games as making any drastic changes to the side seems unrealistic. But I think playing as another team would be awesome.

Just played a friendly, oz v south Africa and it was a cracking game. 1-1 with cahill netting a trademark header after some lovely work from Kewell. Think I might take oz through the qualifiers.

Very good game in my opinion and just about offers enough on the pitch to make it a worthwhile purchase (but as I said earlier, not at £40). Cost me -£3 in the end :)

WORLD CUP 2010 - MY VIEW

Firstly, I must point out that this view is based on 1player V’s CPU only. I’ve only had the game for 1 night and as of yet have not tried out ‘online’ or multiplayer.

My game settings are
Semi passing
Semi shooting
Assisted crossing
Manual through passes
Assisted lob pass

I’ve been gagging to get my hands on this full release since downloading the infuriatingly short halved demo. So my expectations have been very high. And ive not been disappointed.

From load up I love how the menus look. A nice warm African art style look to it. I even like the EA trax that accompany the game. A nice new feature is where you can save your settings that will transfer over to future Fifa games. Should save a few minutes when Fifa11 comes to town.

I set up a friendly between England and Scotland just to get my toes wet. So immediately im impressed that they have given Wembley a make over and it looks stunning with the new pitch textures. Packed full too so im glad they seem to have done away with half full stadium for friendlys or when your team is not doing so well in Manager Mode. In my opinion it was never implemented correctly. When have you ever seen the Emirates half full for a game between Arsenal and Spurs for example. Anyway, back on track. Now ive seen pics on various forums of the England players but actually seeing them on my tv screen was jaw dropping. The work EA have put into the faces this year is to be commended. My favourite England player has to be Rio Ferdinand. The way he looks in game is incredible. I still think the actual player models need some work for Fifa11 but I cant knock the faces. We all know the kits are still sub par when compared to the competition but they are still good enough IMO.

The atmosphere is one of the first things that hits you. It really is a big step up from Fifa10 and the Euro2008 game which was good in its day. The whistling, chanting, drums etc are just perfect and it really does add to the game. You feel more involved. I love that they have Managers now in the game (as in euro2008). It seems toned down slightly to how regular the cut scenes interrupt to show them from the demo but I feel maybe a little more toning is required. Still the X button is there to skip so not really a big issue.

Anyway to the game play. It took me just 3 minutes to score my first goal. A lovely finesse finish from Rooney into the postage stamp from the edge of the box. It looked wonderful and the way the ball travelled and how the keeper stretched for it just seemed more ‘realistic’ then in previous titles. That’s how this game just plays for me now. Everything, from passing, tackling, crossing just seems more ‘realistic’. Ive noticed that deflections are much better. I’m seeing really cool deflections happen and it makes the game just seem more free and un scripted.

Anyway I won the friendly 2 nil. Nice win over the sweatys.

So next I entered the World Cup campaign with England. The full qualifying stage. I went the true life route so had Croatia, Ukraine and the mighty Andorra in my group. 6 minute halves by the way. So I have played every team in my group at least once (have a couple of qualifiers remaining, it was 3am and I had to get too bed). What I was dreading was that every team plays the same way. I’ve read quite a few posts saying that this is still a problem EA has not addressed. Well I can see a lot of difference. Its not perfect and there is much more scope to improve for future Fifas but it’s the best to date of any Fifa game. I had a mixed bag of results. Drawing 1-1 at Wembley to Kazakhstan didn’t go down to well with the English faithful for example. Belarus caused me problems. I drew 1-1 with them away.. A nice touch was Townsend mentioning A.Hleb being a danger man and how good he was at Arsenal, then 20 minutes into the game he popped up with a goal for Belarus. A nice dribble and finish. Also I saw him pulling off tricks against me. No rainbows of sorts but he was doing flicks and stepovers. Player individuality is evident in this game. No other Belarusian was doing this and he really stood out as a danger man for me. Andorra were stubborn at their home. I won 4-1 in the end but it was only 2-1 going into the 90th minute. At home I smashed them 7-0 and it could have been 20. It just seemed really true to real life. Croatia away was my toughest match. I lost 3-1. They were strong and played a lot of high cross balls into my full backs and they couldn’t cope. Had chances in the game but was a deserved loser. So basically, with a couple of games to go I find myself second in the group, 1 pt behind Croatia. Everything is playing out as it should. Andorra are rooted at the bottom with a goals against record Burnley would be proud of.
Not sure if I like the friendlys that are arranged for you. I don’t know if these can be hand picked when creating a custom tournament but I played Spain, Germany and Holland and Bulgaria. Only beat the Germans 1-0 and lost the rest. Spain were, quite rightly my toughest opponents to date and I was hanging on for dear life for 90 minutes.

Another thing I love is the way that you are updated with other relevant scores during your match. It was nice to see that Belarus was giving Croatia a slapping and gave me extra incentive to get a result in a game that I was struggling with.

Match rating and stats at the end of the match are much more visually cleaner with a formation style line-up of the players and with a menu on the left you can cycle through which stats you want displayed. For example, shots on goal, match rating. Pass completion % etc etc. Ive also noticed on most, not all occasions that the Man Of The Match awards go to correct players. And not just the player who scores the most goals. I had a game where Rooney had scored a hat trick but little Theo had a blinder and assisted in 2 goals and scored a belter himself and generally all round was superb. I was expecting Rooney to get the MOM but it was awarded to Theo. Excellent! Its little things like this that are showing the more you play. These are the details EA normally mess up but this production team seems to, in my opinion, ‘get’ football more than the annually released Fifa team.

So off to bed I went with eyes stinging and sore. I did not want to stop playing this game. I love it. The AI is better, not perfect but better. They still do that thing where you just cant get the ball off them. Like there is an invisible force field around them. Its not as bad as previous games but its there and I hate it. Feels scripted when it happens.

So my pluses are
Visuals - stunning pitches, and good variant between stadiums.
Faces - wow, for the top teams they are top notch - even lesser teams generic ones look good
Game play - its amazing how all the tweaks come together. Been left open mouthed at times
AI - improved, still need work of course but a step in the right direction and 1p is now playable.
Team Variants - Spain play like Spain - Andorra play like Andorra and Croatia are strong - how it should be. A definite improvement on Fifa10 although in all honesty I havnt played any teams from other continents yet so it will be interesting to see if they play in the correct style suited to their nation.
Player Individualism - a real sticky point with Fifa. I can see it in this game. Like the Hleb incident I spoke of earlier. It still needs work though but its on the right path.
Penalty system - fantastic. Ive heard a lot of moans and groans about this which I just don’t get. Its so much better than the hit and hope system of the past.
Physicality - been toned down a bit and you can really feel it. Not sure if it needs more tweaking though.
Commentary - I like the Townsend and Tyldesly combi. Still hear the odd mistake but overall I think its really well done. Maybe after several sessions I will hear more errors etc but initially I think its really well put together.

What I would like to see for future titles;
Dynamic weather - like in tiger woods. Connected to the weather channel so that when its rainy in London in real life so it is in the game. Except when playing scenario, dated fixtures of course.
Dynamic pitches - lets see some wear and tear on the pitch during gameplay
Better player models
Pes quality kits, at least for the top leagues/divisions.

So hats off to the team who produced this game. Rutter, I hope you are taking note.

9/10 from me

The penalty bar problem happens if you use INDICATOR in stead of PLAYER NAME for the hub. You can use INDICATOR & PLAYER NAME and the indicator will appear on penalties.

Good review mate :TU:

what i did was go to practice penalties then pactise until you can get blue blob into a corner and count how many seconds you have to hold it to get it there. I made it 3 secs. Then do the same in a match. Its improved mine alot

There's an option somewhere to turn off cut-scenes. Took me a while to find it and can't remember where it was.

Good review. Pretty much agree with large parts of it.

I did have one entire second half where Liechtenstein went into God mode and passed the ball around like Brazil, and whenever I got the ball, my only hope of keeping possession was to immediately play it to my back 4 and stroke it around. But that was because I was 5-0 at half-time and they still have this scripted thing where in such matches where you're thrashing them by halftime, the 2nd half sees the cpu team go into God mode throughout, until finally letting you get number 6 in the final minute. I've had too many matches follow that exact same pattern in Euro2008/FIFA09/10. Would like to see them drop altogether such scripted things.

That´s what makes the game boring, there are certain limit number of situations, maybe 4 or 5, that the AI follows and the games, after a while, are very much all predictable since Fifa 09. For exemple, if i am winning 2 x 0 in half time there´s a +50% chance of the CPU score in the second half, and if they score there´s a +70% of they tie the game. I honestly can´t remember a single win by 2 x 0 in Fifa 10, is always more than this or 2 x 1.

I seem to be able to tell now when the AI goes into this kind of 'god' mode we all talk about. It happened to me last night in a couple of games. So what i did i made sure i kept the ball. Just knocked it around, mostly at the back. It took the sting out of their momentum and then i was able to play my game again. This game needs to be played a certain way to get the best out of it, Too many people know how to play this game to beat it. I know that sounds weird but what i mean is they play it like it is just a computer game. I dont! I play it like its a football match. I dont use cheap exploits to score. And because of this i get so much more out of these games then many other people. If you let it the game engine can be immense.

HMV are offering WC 2010 for £19.99 when you trade in Fifa 10 (360 or PS3). I may pick this up as I have a £15 voucher lying around.

why are so many people moaning about spending £40 but are happy to spend £25. Its just £15 difference and lets face it we have spent that on a shiity take away after a couple of pints down the pub. These days £40 is not much. I mean have you been to the cinema lately....what a rip off. You would spend £40 on a bag of Revels. This is the best £40 i have spent in a long while.

And also, when my missus got me the game she finally got it in Blockbusters but had tried previously in Morrisons (thamesmead). The bloke behind the counter said that he had literalyy dozens and dozens of people coming in for it because of the internest rumour that it was on sale for £25......you gotta love the internet. Just shows, if they did sell it for that price i reckon they still would have made a killin'.

I'm rather enjoying this game so far. The Story of Qualifying is proving a challenge too because I am good on Professional skill level but some challenges let you only choose World Class or Legendary, and its a bit beyond me. Still best way to practice at a higher level I guess.

Already got about 50% of the trophies in the PS3 version, but those online trophies are surely going to stop me Platinuming this game. Typical of EA Sports to put naff trophies in :(

Because £40 is almost double the price for a start to those that are only willing to pay a fraction of the price for a game that is very arguably not a stand alone game.

Not to mention that your point is as sensible as saying why not pay £55 for a normal game, i mean you were going to pay £40 for it so what is £15 difference (and then add in all the other points you made as to why £15 isn't much).

Also if the cinema is so much money stop going to a) The Odeon b) to see 3D films and c) buying the rip off food. It's only like £6 otherwise :).

After reading these comments it makes the game sound like it's going to good for a few weeks and then just horribly repetitive which is a shame as i was tempted to buy this game if only to play on manual.

I mean that in reference to the AI, the main downfall of the FIFA series. Basically all the problems in Fifa 10 stemmed from an AI issue and it seems a similar trend has emerged here. People talking already about how the poor teams still pass the like the best teams, how the game decides that you aren't allowed to win the ball during certain periods, how your team mates are absolute mongs who don't make intelligent runs or position themselves well.

AI works both for the other 10 players you aren't controlling and the team you're playing against. Jeez i hope EA spend 90% of their time on AI for Fifa 11.

Anybody else had this happen?

Just loaded my World Cup full qualifying campaign with Australia, and when I go the roster, my entire starting eleven is reserves, and my original starting eleven (e.g., Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill, etc.) are missing. Only half my reserves are there, and in the place of where reserves would be there 11 GK slots, all empty.

Seriously, they let this type of thing into the game?
