2010 FIFA World Cup

Retri's right (hello sweetheart) that complex controls do not equal better gameplay. When you look at FIFA, it uses how many different combinations of buttons for dribbling? L2 for close control, L2+ Right Stick just to do the simplest of feints let alone the really fancy stuff, L2+R2 for skilled dribbling (which is useful when you realise how to use it), R2 for sprinting, Right Stick for knock-ons? R2 and no directions to shield the ball, L1 to turn and face goal...

It gives you more control, sure, but, for all those control options, it's a bloody nightmare trying to beat players just using left stick dribbling.

While I don't think the dad pad is the future for everyone to use to control the game, I don't think minimising the number of buttons is the problem - it's the gameplay itself.

Obviously? No I wouldn't say it's obvious at all, especially considering how well we all know how EA operates, but hey if it makes you feel like a proper grown up to go around insulting people on the internet I'm very happy for you.......

Well obviously it makes you feel like a grown up to bag EA and everything they do. So if it works for you and everyone else who acts like EA have spat in your face because their games aren't up to your lofty standards.

Looking at the last video posted (ITA-GER) it seems confirmed that now the field is bigger than before.

Am i right?

THREE QUICK QUESTIONS ABOUT FIFA 10
(but just for not to open a new thread for this)

1) Is it possible to create a championship to play with friend online forcing all the players to use SEMI AUTO controls?
2) If it is not, can I invite a friend to play a SEMI AUTO classified match?
3) When I go for a SEMI-AUTO configuration match I cannot see what are the values that change. It this sequence right? SEMI/MANUAL/SEMI/SEMI/AUTO?

Thanks.

Who bags EA and everything they do? Now you're making sweeping generalisations, they do some stuff very well and I praise them for it (like employing me as a data editor ;))) they do some stuff very badly and I criticise them for it (like boasting about how awesome Fifa10's MM would be and then it turns out to be a bug ridden bag of shite that they "cannot" fix).

Advanced moves? This game has been out for almost six months already. If you don't know your way around this game by then it's not for you.

Oh I believe it just IS for me and my fellow people that have lives and model girlfriends indeed. This is why the Dad Pad was invented, because we are the important group of people.

FIFA is supposed to the FUN, not realistic. If I wanted realism I would just phone up Ferguson and sign for United and this way I would get the Premier League experience. Or I could text my mate Gerrard and his gang and go out and play some pure football in a park.

Why cant realistic be fun.....that is the aim, surely.

Demo's out now (I had to find it under Demos/sports as it wasn't showing in latest demos), usual shitty 2 min halves, when will they get a fucking clue?

# Placebo_obecalP

@EAUK_FIFA u don't get proper sense of the ebb and flow of a match in 2m halves, just not possible, doesn't matter how many matches you play 3 minutes ago via web in reply to EAUK_FIFA

@Placebo_obecalP 2 min halves tends to be the standard it seems and you will get a feel if you play a couple of matches. 14 minutes ago via Seesmic in reply to Placebo_obecalP

@EAUK_FIFA y are the demos always 2min halves? Never enough time 2 get a real feel for the game to see how it's improved over previous ones. 17 minutes ago via web in reply to EAUK_FIFA

2010 FIFA World Cup demo released today, check XBL and PSN Store later to download it! Spain vs. Italy, 2-minute halves, who wins?!? about 2 hours ago via Seesmic

post your thoughts as soon as you can Placebo, cheers.

PS3 normally is around 5pm ish....which sucks!

On the 2 minute halfs.....maybe thats all it takes for them to satisfy their girlfriends :)

i left my xbox on at home, so i could start downloading it from the website, but the link for the demo doesn't seem to be working, anybody else managed to do it over the internet?

Have played 8-9 games, impressions so far..

  • "arena cut scene" for substitutions is gone!
  • the constant cut scenes is going to drive you nuts
  • no huge changes as expected, however some really good stuff is in there
  • really like the penaltys

Great news! Minor changes as expected making fifa 2010 world cup the best fifa ever!

How do you choose other teams other than italy spain?

All I have is the quick kick off option with italy spain? or i can scroll through every team in the world which are all locked?!

can you elaborate on the really good stuff?

how quick is it? is it on par with fifa 10?

is the picth bigger? does it make a difference to how quick a player gets to attack?

cheers

Game seems a tiny bit faster to me.

Pitch seems bigger to me, but I am playing on the broadcast camera and it is zoomed out. But it seems like there is a bit more space around.

Doesn't feel different to Fifa at all to me. Pretty much the same game.

You seem to have a bit more control of the keeper when he comes out now. But that could be me just imagining it?

Keepers have done a few good saves so far aswell.

I have seen the computer try about 3 overhead kicks in about 8 games played.

I have had my keeper sent off aswell :DD

The ball seems to make a different noise when hitting the net, that gives the feel of a bit more umph! but I don't know if that is me imagining again?

So not anything major. Pretty much same old same old.

But I have only played about 8 games of 2mins halves which are fucking pointless, so it is hard to get a real feel for it.

As far as how quick it is..I'd say that it's the same speed as FIFA10, however the really short games, playing the AI etc it's hard to tell exactly.

Pitch size..I do feel a bit more space but might just be placebo.

Some of the good stuff..

The goalkeepers is a lot more aggressive on loose balls, especially on the edge of the box.
You have a lot more control of what direction you'll take the ball when receiving it. Chesting the ball especially, used to drive me mad in FIFA10.
The physical play feels more natural. Can't tell you exactly what it is but seems less exaggerated and less situations where you know what player will always win. Battling for headers seems a bit more "loose" too.
It's a bit harder to take the ball by simply running into someone..not hard enough still though..
