SEASON 2016-2017 - SEPTEMBER

Following on from a good start in August, there should have been a healthy buzz coming out of Bari in anticipation of the three September fixtures. Two away games in quick succession at Brescia and Cesena before travelling back down to the Stadio San Nicola to face Frosnione.

Brescia vs Bari

The team utilised the long gap between the last game at the end of august and the game against Biancoazzurri by spending the preceeding few days training in a lakeside retreat next to the serene Lake Garda. On the pitch however it was certainly not plain sailing for Ryan's men as their leaky defence was exposed once more almost instantly when Torregrossa fired in from close range after finding acres of space in the area. On the attacking side, Bari worked tirelessly with Monachello again keeping Luca Toni out of the team playing alongside Brienza in a 442. Their effort came to a head In the second half when Monachello showed true strikers instinct to get on to a cross and fire in past the keeper at point blank range. His animated celebrations showing just how delighted the young striker was at scoring his first goal for Bari and repaying the managers faith in his ability. The energetic celebrations were short lived when five minutes later, in the 78th minute the Brescia Striker Torregrossa fired in another goal from the right across the face of the Bari keeper. Ryan threw on Toni and went all out attack in a 343 but to no avail. a dissappointing defeat for i Galleti

Cesena vs Bari

Three days after losing to Brescia, Bari travelled half way back to their home city to play Cesena. Ryan had said before the game that rotation was already on his mind after such a short gap from the last match and he stuck to his word with Toni making his first start of the season in place of Brienza who made minimal impact in the previous match. Ryan set up to play to the strengths of his powerful strikeforce, attacking from the first minute with wingers hugging the touchline and firing in high crosses to his targetmen. Chances were created amongst near domination by the away side, both strikers however lacked finesse to finish off any of the moves adequately with Toni in particular seeming a bit off the pace as the final whistle approached. In the defining moment however, the whole team were caught off guard when Guido Marilungo received a long pass over the top of the Bari defence and simply slotted it into the bottom corner to secure a win for Cavallucci Marini.

Cesena 1 - 0 Bari. MoM: Martinho

Bari vs Frosnioni

Bari came back to Puglia desperate for a win with the fans increasingly unhappy with the performances and tactics. Unfortunately desperate was the only word applicable to describe the performance. There were a couple of changes to the team with De Luca replacing Toni up front alongside Monachello, David Ivan back on the wing in more of a narrower role to allow the full backs the space to support the attack. These changes ultimately contributed to the awful performance as Frosnioni continusly disrupted the game plan by firing long diagonal passes on the counter attack to exploit the space vacated by the full backs. Both goals for Canarinicoming via this route and putting the game to bed very early on.

Three bitterly disappointing games for Robbie Ryan who is now going to be battling for his job in the next month or two. The manager has to find a system that suits his players or simply pick a team which fits his vision, waiting until January is not an option for the Irishman. In either scenario it remains to be seen whether Marquee signing Luca Toni will fit into either vision.

Player Of The Month: Gaetano Monachello - A player working very hard to keep his place ahead of a world cup winner who finally scored his first goal for the club. His efforts epitomise what the manager wants to see from the rest of his team

I just finished playing 4 more matches. Bit tired, but I think I finally cracked the defensive system. I was using the RB + A button to tackle, but all I have to do is position my player right next to the ball carrier and eventually he will take the ball... Also need concentration but works really well to run against an opponent that is receiving a pass... ususally that makes enough pressure to make him loose the ball after a bad first touch. Takes practice, but once we see it, it all comes clear. It´s exactly how the CPU does, and I mean exactly the same way!

Just had a draw against Aston Villa, tough team, and won against Nottingham 1-2 after they score the first. Tomorrow I´ll see if it was just momentum, but I believe I can finally enjoy Top Player now. Totally game change for me. Also keeping the pressure button on makes the players commit too much, and CPU will explore the gaps flawlessly. Using only the sprint button and the CPU struggles to find openings. Good stuff. Stupid thing is I had noticed this from the beginning, but with the excitment and pressure of winning matches slowly forgot to use this properly...

Absolutely, every draw feels like the fourth of July. And one point is likely to be very valuable in my quest to avoid last position in the table at the end of the season. I am bound to face some big boys from the top of the table soon.

Yeah,being tired is a no no,if I've been away for more than a day,I play a warm up game,or hit the training ground first.

Well done in making the CL Rock .. . talking about defending ... it depends on what's happening in the match. . . .sometimes you can rush a player by anticipating exactly what he's about to do. . . it's all about timing. . .it's launched many counter attacks for me. . .I'm a decent defender . .just yesterday I had 3 frustrating draws where in one match the A.I had no shots on goal. .the other 2 matches the A.I only had one shot. . . . .I had it on a clip but there's an oul' fella in a van driving through it ha ha.

I agree about defending, you have to go back to basics when things go wrong. In contrast to someone else saying it feels like the fourth of july when you get a draw, well conceding a goal when doing the utmost you can to keep a clean sheet leads to utter dejection.

Yesterday in my last match, wich I won 1-2, CPU had 2 shots total! I mean, they almost never got out of their half, and that for me is a new thing... ususally I couldn´t do any close to that! Even against Aston Villa, they had a good number of shots but only really created danger in a couple situations. The thing is, if we use the tackling button while running, it really makes you stumble most of the times, and then you have to call another defender to do the same, and so on. Soon you´ll have your team out of position. Now I only use pretty much the sprint button while defending, abd it works wonders because my players rarely get caught in that stumbling animation. Need focus here though, sprint to position players while reading the CPU team buildup, runs etc, and try to keep all possibilities covered.

Arrrghh, that hurts so much!! The first two matches I played yesterday were exactly like that. Playing good, great moves, getting closer and closer... and then CPU makes a long ball and POW. 1-0.

It's all about timing,and how the game flows,what you need at that time.
Defending is the most fun part of this game,remember 16 and how defender suddenly ran away from the ball in critical situations?

Hello guys, since I dont see any BAL adventure thread I guess I will post my adventure here in the Master League one. I prefer to start with BAL to get a grip on how to move my player properly on the pitch before to actually move to Master League and manage the full team. So here I am with the adventure of V. INGALDI, a 17 years old Italian Striker from Naples, that despite having played in the Youth team of Napoli, decides its time to try to play as a pro, in the J League. The first club that approaches me is Sanfrecce Hiroshima and I immediately sign the contract. The team plays a 3-4-3 formation with only one true striker and 2 second strikers. the nigerian Utaka being our top striker, as I hope to learn a lot from him.
The first match in the J League is against Yokohama F. Marinos, and the coach decides to give me a chance in the starting 11, playing as second striker, on the right side of the pitch, hoping I can penetrate in and release my left footed shoots. The match seems quite interesting, with both teams playing at their best. Both Utaka and I try our best to score in counterattack as our coach prefer to let Marinos keep the ball in hope for our defence to resist. Unfortunately, after a great first half, at the minute 52nd, a big mistake of our defender SHIOTANI trying to clear a ball but laughably missing it , leaves the Yokohama striker WADA all alone for an easy goal. I try my best to work for the team, and equalize, but unfortunately, having not yet enough stamina to last for 90 minutes, the coach decides to substitute me at the minute 67th. Sanfrecce try an all out of attack tactic but unfortunatly the score do no change. Despite playing a good game and getting a 6.0 remark like other strikers, my coech decides that it is best for me to start from the bench next match against Gamba Osaka, again away. I Will keep you all updated, hoping you like my style of narrating this adventure, and that you dont mind it is a BAL story instead of a ML one.

So later on today I'll start my new season with my away game at Cagliari.
Hopes and goals for season two?
The squad has been strengthened with four new additions,while my starting 11 is intact.
A fourth place would be my goal this season,it's going to be harder this year,since my arch rivals Inter won't settle for a 8th place this season.
I'm in the qualification round to the Champions Leauge,and that's my priority to make it,and also make at least the last 32 of it.

League predictions.

Juventus is the favourites as always,I think that Roma and Napoli will try to overtake the throne.

I got € 2 in addition to my existing budget,and and better yet,since the club had a 50% increase in revenue,they gave me €6 million more to spend on salaries.
My squad is currently 26 players,plus one out on loan.
I'm gonna promote one of my youth players,need a third GK.
Might fill my squad up to 32 with four more youth players,those will be sent out on loan.

Starting eleven has a TS of 96 going in to the first game,if I throw in my 4 new players in my starting lineup,I'll still have a good TS at 85.

I can speed up things if substituted, and if I am not even in the bench then I can completely skip the match. I prefer to watch them tho, so that I can better learn how my team plays. Second match with Gamba Osaka was a disaster. ADEMILSON scored 2 goals in the first half, with our passive tactic being the main problem. In fact UTAKA don't get even a single chance to shoot. In the second half the coach decides its time for me to play again and despite the score not changing I manage to put up a good match, considering I play as a second striker while my main role is to play as a pure striker. I even manage to give KONNO a couple of great assists, but he fails both times, once shooting straight against the goalkeeper and second time shooting a very ugly shoot far on the left post. After the match I am the only player in my team with a valutation of 6.0, with some players even getting a 4.5. All in all I can't complain. Interesting to note that both WADA and ADEMILSON, the players that punished us, are on the top 11 team of the month of january. £rd match will be at home with Antlers.

This morning I finished my first season. It was all about ups and downs, testing TP and Pro levels, but mainly having frustration on TP. Lots of losses and draws, close ones mostly. But in the final matches I finally got the click I was waiting for and started having better results, although very late.
Last 5 matches, 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Will only show the most important ones here.

Newcastle, league leaders and a great team. Against all odds, they started cautiously. Maybe they wanted to defend the first place, maybe it´s their style, I dunno. First half was mine, but they were sitting deep, waiting for counter attack oportunities, so space was very tight, and chances hard to find. Second half they started to push a little more, and made some dangerous moves. Space became more evident and I could also explore a bit more, but at the end 0-0 was a good result.

Next, Birmingham home. Nothing to say about this one really. We totally destroyed them. Look at those stats. We could only complain about our lack of finishing, and only at 83 mins, the recent sub Luongo (CM), scored the goal that gave us the victory. It felt gooooood!

Last match of the season! Home against Brentford, rival team. They were looking to play against us I believe, as they started really agressive, and running like doped gods. Everything they tried, they nailed it. I simply couldn´t stop them, even playing at home. Despite that, their goals were kind of a offer. First one, nobody kicked the ball away, and the keeper missed to parry the shot. Second goal, a penalty... how convenient. We were under pressure, and sometimes mistakes are made... After that, Brentford rested for a while, and the lack of stamina was evident, we explored the spaces quite well creating chances, but couldn´t score. We thanked to our fans at the end of the match, for all the support through the season, and promised to do much better next year...

Finshed in 15th place (yeeyyy!) .
Lobato(SS), a signing from the begining, has made it into the Team of the Season. He´s quite good, not exceptional, but with room for improvement. TS ended at 85, and some players had a very good evolution, not only on stats, but also on roles, wich gives me high hopes for the next season. I might only try to sign a good AM.

Had a couple job offers, including Balckburn Rovers and Huelva (Spain). Clearly I won´t accept them, my team took a whole season to start playing football... won´t leave them now! lol

Into December now and Barnsley have 6 games, only one is against the someone in the top 4. The rest are bottom half teams so i am thinking 15 points from 6 games may give me a chance to make the play offs.

Next, Birmingham home. Nothing to say about this one really. We totally destroyed them. Look at those stats. We could only complain about our lack of finishing, and only at 83 mins, the recent sub Luongo (CM), scored the goal that gave us the victory. It felt gooooood!

Last match of the season! Home against Brentford, rival team. They were looking to play against us I believe, as they started really agressive, and running like doped gods. Everything they tried, they nailed it. I simply couldn´t stop them, even playing at home. Despite that, their goals were kind of a offer. First one, nobody kicked the ball away, and the keeper missed to parry the shot. Second goal, a penalty... how convenient. We were under pressure, and sometimes mistakes are made... After that, Brentford rested for a while, and the lack of stamina was evident, we explored the spaces quite well creating chances, but couldn´t score. We thanked to our fans at the end of the match, for all the support through the season, and promised to do much better next year...

QPR 0-2 Brentford

Finshed in 15th place (yeeyyy!) .
Lobato(SS), a signing from the begining, has made it into the Team of the Season. He´s quite good, not exceptional, but with room for improvement. TS ended at 85, and some players had a very good evolution, not only on stats, but also on roles, wich gives me high hopes for the next season. I might only try to sign a good AM.

Had a couple job offers, including Balckburn Rovers and Huelva (Spain). Clearly I won´t accept them, my team took a whole season to start playing football... won´t leave them now! lol

Yes, he is a good bet. Still waiting for the stats to have that special boost, but along the season he started to do good stuff. Working guy, runs a lot, and usually is there on every chance. Needs to work his finishing and stamina though.

This morning I finished my first season. It was all about ups and downs, testing TP and Pro levels, but mainly having frustration on TP. Lots of losses and draws, close ones mostly. But in the final matches I finally got the click I was waiting for and started having better results, although very late.
Last 5 matches, 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Will only show the most important ones here.

Newcastle, league leaders and a great team. Against all odds, they started cautiously. Maybe they wanted to defend the first place, maybe it´s their style, I dunno. Having 70-75% in passing is really good.
I usually have around 65-70, but I've had games vs strong opposition where it's been around 55.

March - A Change in Fortunes!
Something is in the air tonight went the song and for Valladolid they could certainly point to that as 2 wins from 4 games, both via comebacks has given the team a much needed lift as they head into the finishing stretch of a tough and uncomfortable season.

It was standard fair to start things off as a 1-0 defeat to promotion hopefuls Gimnastic appeared to have set the tone for another tale of woe. However Valladolid would not only bounce back from that, they would also comeback from a goal down at Huesca, to snatch a dramatic 2-1 and jump above their opponents in the league table, thanks to this (below) finish from the much maligned Dolly Menga.

CD Lugo bought the Albivioletas back down to earth with a 1-0 win at the Jose Zorrila, albeit on the back of a lucky deflection. But it would be the game with Alcorcon that ignited the team and fans, as finally Valladolid would come out on top in a 7 goal thriller.

Leading 1-0 at the break thanks to Awaziem, Valladolid looked in control of the game before a hectic final 30 minutes. Alcorcon true to form would rally back, going 2-1 and then 3-2 ahead as the game swung end to end.

However it would be the finale that will live long in the Valladolid memories as Drazic, the teams talisman (yet often missing), would score a pair, the 2nd being a powerful header to seal a stunning win in the craziest of circumstances.

Valladolid are finally off the foot of the table and can certainly look forward to the final months fixtures. Speaking of which, April will serve up trips to Tenerife and Reus, 2 sides still on the cusp of the playoff race. Before home games with mid-table Oviedo and Mirandes.
