Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

God damn it, so close to have 360 movement at my hands. I guess they aren't skilled enough to even make something as basic as that work.

Also, if Brazil is licensed, shouldn't all players also come with it, including Ronaldinho? (EDIT: Jack explained it well).

The crowd only follows the ball on the PS3? If that limitation is in the game come release, I am officially giving up on these developers. Pretty soon we are going to hear that Ronaldinho only has a pony-tail on the PS3 version because the X360 cannot handle the rendering of it.

But yeah, no 360 movement = no money from me. I didn't buy PES6 after trying it out for a while (I bought PES5 after playing it for a while, best buy I made).

I just wish these developers would leave KONAMI and join a company that actually is willing to spend some money on the development, rather than letting a handful of people handle it all.

I just wonder if the KONAMI guys have any idea what we feel about the news in Europe? I mean, ML news is awesome, but if the amount of teams (!) is going to limit how they can be structured, while KONAMI keeps the habit removing national teams each year as others get added...

And currently only 20 slots for new teams? How about INFINITE? How about we fill the harddrives as we please? Jesus H Christ on a stick. We are not using memory cards anymore. I wept long and hard when I could only fill ONE "memory card" on the Xbox PES5 with replays, while the PC version had 8 slots. They both use harddrives.

I am getting more and more depressed by the minute, and that is despite lots of encouraging news.

It does seem like every good aspect of the game we hear about is nullified by something utterly stupid and dissapointing, I predicted a while back that the new edit mode would be great but most likely a waste of time due to Konami style limitations. I very much doubt we will be able to have realistic league structures and lower leagues which is a crying shame because it would be so easy for them to do, but they simply don't want to make use of the hardware.

Yeah, their logic in certain aspects is beyond me. They limit our team slots, yet more teams are needed to fill ML leagues.

As long as KONAMI doesn't limit the slots available for storing players... ;)

Also, if the Elastico feint is still hardcoded... Suckers.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I can't see two teams being licensed in the next-gen games but not in the last-gen games. Something funny is going on. They've bought the licenses for Newcastle and Tottenham, otherwise their badges wouldn't be on the screens released. It wouldn't be allowed, ever. So either GameSpot have got their facts wrong, or they're not licensed on last-gen but are on next-gen. I'd go with the first one. But it's very odd.

As for the Kahn/Ronaldinho stuff, Kahn went to court off his own bat, he wanted to stop all games companies from including him and "making money from his image without his permission". Whereas with Ronaldinho, I'm imagining it's not him driving this but EA, who have given him a bag of money and gone to court on his behalf saying "we now have an exclusive contract with Ronaldinho and we own his rights to appear in a computer game, so he's no longer allowed to appear in any others".

So it's Ronaldinho this year, Rooney next year and eventually, when they get $527 billion dollars, they'll be buying the computer game rights of every player in the Premiership for $1 milllion each.

Jack your on the ball with info, do you know anything about Ronaldinho not being in the game? is he just left out of the Brazil squad due to the Copa America or is he really gone from the game wholesale.

Perfect reason for people to stop playing fifa... if it is EA who are doing this. Thats just fkn greed.. or a cheap (well expensive) attempt to get people to play their game.. oh well..

anyways.. ta for the great news jb ;)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

hold on a minute, havent we already seen pics of ronaldhino??!?!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Anyone here read UK based 360 magazines??
Apparently one of them (probably OXM or 360mag ) posted a review, giving SWOS a 4/5.
Quote:
Just got the new 360 mag delivered today (UK mag) and has a review of the game. 4/5 and summary was : The most free flowing football game of all time (yes, that does include pro evo soccer) redrawn how we all saw it in our mind's eye, years ago. no disc swapping, no read errors- just the type of retro fun that brings warmth rather than a reminder of how much you have actually aged.

EVEN BETTER THAN PES!!!
Of 'coz we all knew that beforehand, but having this printed in an actual magazine (hopefully a 3rd party one), can only mean success.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

the new ML sounds very interesting. actually all the new details sounds very interesting.
now all they gotta do is beef up the graphics and well have a good first-time-next-gen game. :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

So would that mean that Ronaldinho is also omitted from next-gen PES? this is very weird.

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who has posted news, and keeping us up to date with what's going on, and especially to those who are giving us news that are making us want this game more and more, thanks Adonis, Suff, freMM, bbc, stringer bell, JB,TG, and Han, if I missed some1 sorry, thank you all!

That gamespot preview was for the PS 2.
I am not sure if that makes any difference for licensing.
I am told Newcastle and Tottenham will be licensed.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Ronaldinho already appeared in a screenshot so I don't really understand how he is missing.

haha good point.. cant beleive i forgot that..
worse case scenario..they (konami) should simply do what they did many years ago.. that is, slightly change the names..and have the real faces hidden in the edit mode.. would solve all the exclusivity and rights business...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Wow, sorry im back tracking a little, was sleeping but the ML news is great.

The Twenty plus spare teams slots means I can at least create the championship and my beloved Southampton, even possibly StMary's which is awesome.

Somehow I really think seabass is going to overload us with info at GC. I know graphics aren't the greatest but the modes on offer and flexibility for editing etc. are shaping up very well indeed.

I agree, this seems like the only logical way to go. But F**ck EA, they have to use sabotage to beat PES, It just shows even they know they're well beaten this year.

So the game asks you to be a good manager. That's roughly how it will be.

WHAT!? pitch types? different nets!? this is to good to be true!

I don't see how EA can block Ronaldhino from being in PES 2008 because Konami now have the Brazil license which they obviously paid for. So naturally that contract will include Ronnie, Kaka n co for all their marketing etc.

I get the fact that Ronnie is a megastar and image rights comes into it but surely there is no legal way that EA can block Ronnie from being in the game?

If it is true then clearly they are worried that they'll get beaten again. Why do they have to stoop so low :?:

Both games will naturally get compared when they get released but does anyone know if Fifa has no blackscreens like PES because IMO that could be the defining difference between the two games.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

One thing in mind, having 4-5 divisions with the same 5 leagues + other clubs at hand means we won't be having realistic divisions. Most probably divisions with mixed teams from different leagues depending on their rep. Oh well.. still better than nothing :)

The news about 360 movement has two sides.

On the positive side, at least they are experimenting with it, trying to move their gameplay model into genuinely new territory. I am hoping that the decision to axe it for PES2008 is a temporary issue, that Seabass is not satisfied it's implementation currently provides an improved experience over the scripted system, and that he will continue to work on this for full implementation in PES2009.

On the negative side, he may just decide it's not working at all, is scared it is too far removed from the "comfortable" scripted system that everyone has become used to and grown to love (or hate), and ditch the idea of 360 movement altogether until PS4 in 2015.

Whilst we await confirmation of the exact specification for the ML structure, again, at least he finally realises that it needs expanded upon. For a long time, the message coming form Seabass ewas that he thought it was damn near perfect as it was.

The fear is that it may be a half-hearted effort with limited numbers of teams, but worse still, it will remain that way for years to come. I do feel there is a need for the new ML structure to be genuinely good this time, because if they come up with 4 divisons of 8 teams (or something substandard), it would demonstrate they still haven't grasped what is required. Nobody is buying the "limitations of hardware" argument any more. They need to prove they don't have limitations in their understanding of what makes a good football gaming career.

Here's hoping....

my reputation is on the line with this lot (saying that, my reputation is "miserable ****" anyway, so it won't hurt it too much)

LOL . The forum loves you really Bauer.;)

great news btw. Defintely a step in the right direction for the game if all of this is true. Thx

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

the lack of premiership licences in the PS2 beta version that Gamespot tested doent mean anything at this stage.

quote from gamespot:
But UK gamers will be disappointed to read that no Premier League sides are included this year, a step back from last year's PES, which at least featured Arsenal and Manchester United (although with months to go before the game's official release, Konami may still be working behind the scenes to grab some of those licences)
http://uk.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/pes2008/news.html?sid=6176302&tag=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot

lets hope that Konami are successfully negotiating a nice licence surprise!

I see the whole scenario of dropping the 360 movement as a positive thing. They tried it, and without doubt will continue working on it till its right - so yeah, seabass knows that it should and will oneday be implemented (im thinking next years version).
But since it didnt work this time round, rather than adding it and jeopardising the gameplay and framerate etc - which is the most important factor - they chose not to add it (just yet, but until they get it 100% spot on)..good move konami ;)

Not really dude, Kahn court case is clear: any player can actually refuse to give his images rights individually.

Although this actually shows how dumb in general football players are: if they create a seriuos association they would be able to deal with their rights in a more coherent way, let's say negotiate minimum salaries, selling collective rights, influence football schedule (i mean not many of them must be happy to play over christmas) etc. But they are a bunch of kids in general so they waste tons of money for individual agents/lawyers/advisers etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

The fact that the PS2 version GameSpot played didn't have Newcastle, Tottenham or Ronaldinho is really bugging me now. We have screenshots of all three being in PES2008 next-gen.

Either a lot has changed in the last few months license-wise (and perhaps EA have only just started threatening Konami over it), or the screenshots we're seeing are from old versions and GameSpot have a mega-new version, or GameSpot have a mega-old version.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Wow good news so far........hopefully the ML will have a decent amount of teams in the leagues. Also it could just be konami's tradition of reinstating an old option and pr-ing it a "NEW". Remember the old ML actually had 4 divisions of 20, if i remember correctly, with all the euro teams mixed up in them. So we could be looking at a similar set-up but now with an added financial element with stadium building/sponsor. Its an improvement, but it could still be very far from what we actually want. And could also be even further from realistic. The old ML had a 4 team play-off for euro champion when you won , or was in the top 4, in the top division. If they are gonna just use this mix it up across 4 divisions stuff it would mean you wouldnt even have a proper euro comp/season going on, or you could end up playing the same teams in the euro cup and the league.

As for the whole no licensing in ps2, dinho in pics, no ML in 360 version etc. Its all down to the different beta versions doing the rounds. So dinho could actually now be ommited, new/spurs could now be in the ps2 version, and the ML is also in all the nextgen versions. Leipzig should hopefully clear up most questions.
