Leipzig has to clear everything up.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

tikx4, that's EXACTLY why I said don't listen to Stringer Bell, I didn't want people to think lower-leagues were in the game or that the ML is different across the next-gen formats because according to my contacts, none of that is true (believe me it's the first thing I asked them to find out for me). I'm all for a joke but I hate the idea of people getting their hopes up, taking it as fact, starting to spread rumours and then we all start to think it's true because of a rumour started on this bloody website that's "confirmed" elsewhere.

Yeah the thing i worrying about is divisions will be mixed up with different teams from europe so Champions League/UEFA cup will be pretty much pointless as you will end up playing the same sides.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Kobashi, it's my prediction (this isn't from a contact) that because there's going to be a lot of divisions, the "other leagues" will be axed (like back in the day, four ML divisions, each with their own cups, end of story). But then admittedly they'd have to come up with a new way of doing a CL.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

To believe or not to believe.... that is the question Stringer Bell :)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

About the number of teams in the leagues: I was told it's 10.
I agree with Jack about the CL in the ML beeing axed. That was what I thought too. Especially if you have leagues of 10 teams.
About Licensing Tottenham and Newcastle: I think it's true. The PS 2 beta-version may be an old one. Owen as coverstar should be a hint towards Newcastle and if Newcastle is true, Why should the Tottenham rumour be false?

10???

huh, you mean 10 teams in the new "2nd division"? I dont understand?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

He means ten teams in each ML division (there's not enough teams in the game to give them much more than that, if there's going to be 4/5 divisions). I would say that's including the top division as well, but again, I've not had the teams-in-each-division number confirmed so I'm speculating.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

i hope what everyones "contact" is saying turns out to be true because it sounds very exciting but im worried it will all be bullshit, there is always rumours like this going around before a pro evo comes out and sadly most of them are just that.......rumours

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

well if u have 4 leagues made of 4 divisions each, 10 teams per division that makes it 160 teams.

Currently we have 140 teams, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to add some 20 new teams (we already heard about new scandinavian teams licensed) or a new slot of 20 empty teams.

Still i would rather have 2 full divisions of 20, it gives more the feeling of playing the real thing

ahh i see. Thx. :D
Thats a bummer. ah well at least its a step in the "right" direction, we can play a lite version of real life. Could actually not be as bad as we fear and quite enjoyable.

Hopefully if they see that (Jap) fans really enjoy it and want this expanded on then they will committ more resources to building out a full copy of the real life leagues for PES2009? Heres hoping!!
I can see why perhaps they havent expanded the ML to cater for 80 plus teams per league insteand of 40-50 as its probably not the team slots that is the issue, but the extra programming needed to map out the permutations of a dynamic full 80 plus league with 4 divisions etc etc. I would rather they wait another year and make sure they do it well rather than do a bodge job that limits the options during the season etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

They should get the Portuguese liga and a Mexican team or two.

Plus Konami have the league licenses so would that make it easier to get the 2nd divisions, Seria B etc?

No, Jack understood it well :) You have 4 divisions of 10 teams, top-down system, so no parallel leagues anymore. I did ask this part in particular.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Of course Ronaldinho's in the game, so are Tottenham and Newcastle.

Gamespot just don't know what they're talking about, when news broke of Ronaldo being on the cover they put up a picture of Brazil's Ronaldo.

Shame half the people in the comments section are now put off buying the game thanks to Gamespot.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Stringer Bell how soon ?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Konami still negotiating licences..

:lmao: I remember that, was it Gamespot, UK or AU who broke that news?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Hmm that means only one league with 4 divisions with 10 teams in each division? Well, that's not any better than what we have now.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Yes, it's better. MUCH better! You have to go through all the leagues ( of ten teams ), so you have to do more.
...apart from all other novelties we talked about in previous posts.
I can't really understand how you can say it's not any better

what? 10 teams each division!!! :shock:So not 18-20 teams in div 1, 10 in div 2, 10 in div 3, 10 in div 4?

Jeez, another example of konami giving with one hand then taking away with the other!!!:(

To reduce div 1 to 10 teams is daft, as I could live with playing 10 team divisions in the promotion struggle, with the ambtion to play in the top flight og a full 18-20 team premiership/serie A/la liga

Konami- they are like that that hot girlfriend who has a habit of doing some really daft and annoying things. You dont know whether to love them or ditch them!!

Now really, to me it is much worse.

First we move from a 72 teams structure (current) to a 40-50 teams structure. Second i don't want to play a top division of 10teams. I don't find it intriguing sorry, as it is even less real.

It is football or volleyball??? Are we gonna go through play offs???

Bah typical konamish.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Its an improvement. And you can add a whole 2nd division for your prefered league in the empty slots (which would otherwise be used for ze german league). So if you would do the prem it would look something like this i imagine (i havent bothered placing teams who i think will be in the top 10 or not so dont bother comment on it):

div1
1 Arsenal
2 Aston Villa
3 Birmingham
4 Blackburn
5 Bolton
6 Chelsea
7 Derby
8 Everton
9 Fulham
10 Southampton

div2
11 Man City
12 Man Utd
13 Middlesbrough
14 Newcastle
15 Portsmouth
16 Reading
17 Sunderland
18 Tottenham
19 West Ham
20 Wigan

div3
1 Barnsley
2 Blackpool
3 Bristol City
4 Burnley
5 Cardiff
6 Charlton
7 Colchester
8 Coventry
9 Crystal Palace
10 Hull

div4
11 Ipswich
12 Leicester
13 Norwich
14 Plymouth
15 Preston
16 QPR
17 Scunthorpe
18 Sheff Utd
19 Sheff Wed
20 Liverpool (my team)

This does give the possibility to still have a proper euro CL with the teams that arent used in the leagues (the top ita/spa/dutch/german/french/best of the rest teams). Hopefully they will give this as an option, otherwise we might end up playing hull in the final of the CL, or it could end up being even faker and have chelsea, liverpool, manu & arsenal in the CL semi. Oh wait, we had those 3 in the real CL semi's last season. But it would be lame if we end up having the 4team playoff of the old ML.

Or we could get pretty close to a proper domestic scottish league........thats probably even worse

Having the following would be a lot better imo:
div1 = 18/20 teams depending on league chosen
div2/3/4 = 3 x 10 teams per division

But with this option you are again left with a league that ends up not working due to the emtpy slots, or lack of. The 4 x 10 is actually a far more logical option if you consider the 22 slots available. Its means you can have the following set-ups's:

English = 20 prem + 20 1st division,
Spanish = 20 primera + 20 1st div
Italian = 20 serieA + 20 serieB
French = 20 lique1 + 20 lique2
Dutch = 18 era + 18 1st div + 4 amateur.

The 22 slots does make it possible to keep the national integrity of the dutch league (18+22=40) while also allowing a couple of extra euro teams for the other leagues. Is this were this 22 number comes from?

Yeh, and I was excited about that part, but really, how much fun is a 10 team league going to be? (Not much for me atleast). It going to be 18 match every season, which is far too short, and obviously no CL or anything like that. And a total of 40 teams in ML, which isn't much. This is all just MY opinion, and if you like this new structure, fine by me.

It is always so, so typical of Konami, they take a step forward, but another step back.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Why don't Konami just scrap Master League and do what FIFA do.

They won't even have to work hard because the rules are there in real life, Koanmi would just have to copy it.

Man I'm pissed off with Konami, this is the first time a new PES has been coming out that EVERYONE is slagging off here, and I've been here since pre-PES3 when everyone was going nuts about a new release!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I do hope they return the old cup system from ISS Pro Evolution where a lower divison team could play against top teams from higher leagues.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I'm in two minds as to whether the new ML format is going to be better or worse. I've always wanted to go up the divisions, so it's great for me that they've included four. And the fact that they're a bit quicker is a mixed blessing - I take ages to play out a single season anyway, so I'm not too upset about that. But without even one set of lower-league teams to go with all this, it's still going to be "wrong". I mean, take the country you support (or the country you usually play in, in PES). You fill the first two divisions with their teams (the best ten and the worst ten), and then what? What do you do with the two lowest divisions? The answer, as always, is fill them with random European teams. Meaning that, if you're (for example) Wigan, you'll be playing Marseille one week and Inter Milan the next.

As with the last two PES games, perhaps (for me personally) the ML will only become "playable" once the patches start coming out. But I'll be quite happy once they do.

I do hope they return the old cup system from ISS Pro Evolution where a lower divison team could play against top teams from higher leagues.
Me too. See, that's where I'm different from most guys on here, I'd rather have stuff like that and a realistic league system but no Champions League, than the system we already have and a Champions League. But then I support a lower-league team in real life so the idea of climbing the leagues is always going to appeal to me more than winning in Europe.
