Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

What's very funny here, is that all people complaining gonna buy this game ;)
If you want 100% realism, move your ass and go on a field. Stop crying on this game. I'm sure you're playing again and again PES6.
Complaining on a 24s video? what may it be when watching your favourite team during 90 minutes in real life?
Do you know what marketing means? Do you think Seabass is gonna bring you the perfect game this year and next year no evolution?
C'mon, this is the first Next-Gen version so don't be harsh like this.

So is it ok to start saying 'ZOMG dis game iz gonna b teh awsome after watching ''a 24s video'' or do you only have problems with people who are not impressed with what they have seen no matter how well thought out there posts are?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I think the fact that ronaldo is running that way (the chest movement) is because he's accelerating, because you see that the ball is bouncing far away from him. I think it will look different when he's on top speed with the ball at his feet.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I would buy this one

3dfxv59000agp.jpg

that should accelerate your PES to optimal frames

Doubt it, they went bust years ago!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Hmmm... patientce... I would like to see the ML or fantasia mode much like the rest.
But don't you find it coincidence that two programmers come with roughly the same arguments? ;)

 I thought we weren't allowed to play the "I'm a programmer" card (I am also a qualified programmer, although I now rarely do it professionally).

It seems to me the point tiktiktik is making is that it would not take the talents of the world's finest programmer to revamp the ML into something far more credible, nor would it take months of endless effort.

I understand your point about the AI model being a vast program. Without doubt it is incredible, even the cheat-filled current version (hey, I'm a programmer, I understand how a program can cheat ;)). And if they can manage to create an improved model with no cpu cheats, it will be a tremendous achievement.

However, I am left wondering what they have been doing over the past 3-4 years. They made comments many years ago they had virtually reached the limit of PS2 in terms of improving the AI, yet they released many more version of the game on that platform. It would appear they've simply been "mucking around" making no real progress with the AI and game engine in recent years, years in which they had the perfect opportunity to devote time to revamping the ML, but they did not.

Perhaps it is partly the fault of the corporation that is Konami mercilessly cashing in on the product, insisting upon multiple releases of the same game each year, albeit to different audiences, instead of focusing on making more substantial improvements to one single version each year.

Either way, the thought that "they'll sort out the ML next year" has become an annual, unfulfilled hope. History suggests it won't be improved much next year, nor the year after.

han said:

In considiration of konami's 10 men team and their pets I fully understand the lack of development. In considiration of the business side I fully understand having very limited expenditure when you sell so many copies each year of the same game. However the game is konami's biggest selling franchise each year and i for one am beginning to get really pissed of with the amount of work / investment they are putting into the game yet expect us to pay 50/60euro's each year for what is basicly a patch on the previous game.

Also the arguments used are regarding the gameplay/physics of the game. I havent moaned about the gameplay or physics, ill reserve my comments till the game is released and i realise how much work those elements cost. But surely from a programmer point of view, you also dont consider a larger ML / team slots to be too much work (especially with the edit mode available)? Its not even part of the gameengine. The main arguments is that they prioritise the gameplay and leave the ml as it is because they dont have the time, dont want to invest in more personel. I wish i could use those excuses and get good grades when designing buildings. "Yeah i only designed the facade as I didnt have the time to design the floorplan, but it looks pretty." Who the hell would accept that?! And its been the case for the last 3 or so years!

@ Thomas;

Tnx for the ML info. It could give us hope that they are doing something special with the ML with the small stadium etc. However i cant help but feel it will be a ridiculously fake element added when you play as liverpool / manu / milan / hell even bolten. How many clubs in the game actually have small grounds? Fulham and maybe a few more. Yeah ive got to build up my stadium from 10.000 to 50-80k while im in the premierleague.......Thats just stupid. It would only work well if you could actually start in division 3/4 as a very small team and then build the club and team up over the seasons. If they dont actually have any other teams then the 18/20 top league teams from each division its gonna make the ML even more unrealistic then it already is.

I'm not impressed by this video.
I'm just telling that we see nothing more than the pictures we've seen before which means only graphics, so we can be disappointed in that way.
But to complain about the "crowd at the 11th second" or "the chest control..." is stupid.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

(not having a go at you personally , Bingham)

The irony is that many of the people vainly trying to defend this game are the first to pillory FIFA on the basis of a handful of screenshots and a trailer.

The argument used in defence of this instant derision is that FIFA was crap last year so it will be crap this year.

As such, it is surely perfectly acceptable for people to be scornful of PES, based on a poor feature list, some tardy screenshots and now a video clip which does little offer encouragement. But perhaps most pertitent, PES was crap last year and so far, there's little to suggest it's any better this year.

But maybe in October, when we finally have the DVD in our PS3s and are witnessing a load of dross that cost us £50, we'll still have the fall-back of knowing that Konami have released for sale the pre-beta version. The good version is being kept back for some undefined time in the future.

I understand but i have praised Fifa and Pro Evo as you will see if look at my points only thing im disappointed in fifa is shooting.

Dont think im bias im merely pointing out if you think you know what your expecting from 15 second trailer must be mind reader. :)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

I think next-gen gives Konami (and also EA) an opportunity to take their time in order to make a giant leap forward.
What they should do is don't make a game for the autumn 2008. They could make a deownlaodable patch to make the team's rosters up-to-date and replace the relegated team by the newly promoted ones. If they did that, then they could concentrate on the game play for two years...but knowing how all is dictated by the bussiness side of the industry...this is rather utopian.

Winston, about not allowing to play the programmer card...i mentioned that once in one of my many outrageous post..it was intended as being ironic...but maybe i should not have done that...so don't bother...i'm sorry.

Sometimes this threas infuriates me too much...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Agree 110%. If they didn't have to produce a normal game and a J-League game every year and they took the time out to improve every single aspect, then it would be incredible. But unfortunately £50 x 2 equals more than £50 x 1.

Yeah if you're not Fifa, you can't have more than 2 teams licenced. It's in their contract or something.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Some points from the preview

Xbox360 version
- Beta Version: Framedrops, bad stadium textures,
- easier to shoot goals outside the box
- Balance of the player is more importan than in PES6 <- LOL
- lob shoot is easier
- the diving is very difficult, because you get often the yelllow card
- Com also use diving
- your player profil information: for example: The longest distance shoot-goal, how many goals you scored in one match and so on

PS2 Version

- 33 Stadion

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

what? wasn't it harder to shoot? arrrrggghhh... every one says something different, I don't know who to believe anymore...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

you misunderstood this info. The player shoot harder,so it is easier to score goals outside the box.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Knight you have no idea the difference between curent and next gen.
PES2008
formrf7.jpg

To properly access lightening, you have to have different materials/objects together in the same shot to do a comparison.

For instance, Raul's face looks great. But it looks as good as many patched faces in PES6 current-gen. Now how about you put players together in the scene, with their jerseys, and some crowds in the distant background? Each material should respond to light differently, and according to its distance from the source of light. (Crowds are furthest from the light, whereas players on the pitch are in the center) You can clearly see the difference.

Forget for a second Fifa's dramatic dark palette. Look at the texture quality on FIFA's screens. (For FBs, here's what I'm NOT talking about: Player models, animations, gameplay.)

To take a look at a realistically lit stadium with real next-gen lightening and colour variations, take a look at the crowds, and both are 3D, however one is next-gen, and the other is "incomplete work":

(For FBs, here's what I'm NOT talking about: Player models, animations, gameplay.)

For fanboys who just can't let go, compare PES/WE's CGI intro lightening with the ingame's lightning. I would never compare CGI textures with ingame textures. But take a look at the lightening. WE's CGI has it spot on.

Many graphical aspects of PES2008 look like incomplete work. I feel that the same team developing current-gen PES6 didn't hire any new employees for the next-gen formula.

Which game will we choose, of course PES2008. But THE POTENTIAL of graphical improvement versus the actual graphical improvement is very disappointing.

Of course the game "looks nice", it's a 2007 game released for a next-gen system.

....oh and have we all "decided" to ignore Rooney's weird face screenshot?

I don't mean to state the obvious, but that's not really the face you want to "show off" when your advertising for your game. Unless Konami was advertising it's new "Under-17" mode where all players look like totally different teenagers.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/06/07)

Quick overview (for moaners):
- no new features are mentioned.
- it's the same as the last 6 PES games, but better

Overview:

- they played 360 ("microsofts pitch") and PS2 version
- PC should be the same as PS3/360, incl. editor
- graphical "evolution", not "revolution"
- Beta stutters on PC (still beta!!!), supporters are not finalized yet
- better AI ("lost the first 2 games on 3 star")
- ball is heavier -> better shooting (long range)
- in-game sound improved
- more focus on 1-1 situations/duels in midfield
- strengh/technique of a player has more influence (-> easier to keep the ball with a strong player, easier to dribble/feint with a skilled player)
- good/spectacular keepers (one-handed saves)
- diving is working well (they didn't manage to get a penalty yet, CPU uses diving in ML, but gets punished most times)
- PS2 version is different: more stadiums, better training modes, community modes
- replays can be saved on all plattforms
- ML didn't change, just pimped up..

Editor's comment:
- they were critical due to the lack of "new features", but the gameplay is even more addictive
- the gameplay feels much more random/natural/less scripted

@Knight

first you said PES2008 loke like a current game(for example pes6 oder fifa 2007 ps2 version) and know you compare pes2008 with fifa 2007 Xbox360 version photo-shop screenshots?

What about your argument that the crowd, the players, the grass...looks like current gen?

@Raul screenhot

show me a patched face from pes6 who have the same textures quality, the same polycount, the same level of details.

Yes PES2008 have not the best grafics and Fifa 2008 is in detail the better game, but in fact PES2008 dont look like a current gen game! But hey better konami put the ps3/xbo360 performance in the gameplay, than only in the grafics...-> Fifa!
