Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

The control system in this game is the same since pes2. I'm astonished to see that a lot of pes fans can't understand how the game works. How all the passes, shots, etc... are decided by the CPU most of the time. Without freedom of pass (power and analog direction) and freedom to shoot (power and direction), this game is a waste of time, because there's no real skill involved at all. They game is no more a simulation, but an arcade, and that's why they now can sell to children and are selling millions of copies. And that's bad for us.

If you don't understand what a big majority of us consider "scripting" may be because you're unfamiliar with programming and games in general. By "scripted" we refer to the chopper crossing the sky just when you look through the window in any Call of Duty.

If you want to understand what means free ball physics (and pes has never had that, believe me), you'll have to understand that in PES the ball is always ASSIGNED to a target, that's why deflections, passes and any movement of the ball goes into the direction of an assignated player, and when you shoot you can only choose 3 directions more or less, so all the subtelties are performed buy the cpu.

My guess is that a lot of people just like the simplicity of the game. You pass the ball forward 2 or 3 times and you're already near ot the penalty box. You shoot and... mmmm, sometimes you score, sometimes not. And that's it more or less. You can play like that. Theorically, as there's no skill involved in passing, you should be able to pass perfectly through all of your teammates. Errors are decided by the CPU in a very lousy manner. The same to shoots, collision detection, etc...

Implementing manual shooting in the game would be very easy, no more than a couple of hours of programming and a week of testing. Really. Well, it's konami, let's make it 2 months. But my fear is that passing freedom is not supported by the engine and AI, they would have to recorde again a lot of ai-related scripts, and they won't.

The real talent of seabass was to make a good abstraction of his engine in the first installments, and creating a good game por that generation of consoles. But he is sticking to his formula that is not valid for next-gen. From pes3 to pes6 they have simply disguised the engine in different suits. If they do that again it will be very sad.

:applause:
wow its great to hear someone who actually knows their shit, and not just listen to the fools who love the sound of their own voice.

some people on this forum are a complete waste of DNA & Oxygen, not being funny but i like fifa and pro evo.....but don't come to the forum everyday to post the same comments and slag either game off...at the end of the day both games will be out at the end of october and i for one will be playing them both (and of course the majority on evo-web).....pick the bones out of that you bunch of whinging slagboats

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

one thing i really hope is fixed in this version is when you go through on goal and go round the keeper. The GK makes contact with you but not the ball so it makes you stumble and then the defender clears the ball. Ref doesnt ever punish the GK.

It really bugs me so hopefully will be fixed.

YES, YES!

This just happened to me in ML... :(

Why are you still talking about the mexican wave? Someone was pulling your leg - the translation didn't mean that at all! I can't believe anyone took that as gospel!

Maybe that's the right moment in pes2008 to dive.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Is it just me or as we get closer to October I'm beginning to hope Fifa bring out a great game this year as I fear for PES and the way it's going.
It used to be I'd look at the latest(new thing)Fifa would be adding to their title and sigh "oh no not again" but looking at how things are shaping up and given the limitations on OF's and no patches, not to mention the dive button, I think Fifa are finally on the right lines... fingers crossed.
Unless Konami make big changes somewhere I'm sure I will still feel I have the same game I had last time with a token 'next gen' tweak.. but without all the great work this community puts into it, which lets face it lifts the game to a different level. I for one would not have put the hours into playing PES and WE, if I had to put up with London reds and the garbage kits etc.
To be honest some of you guys should get credit checks on the box!!

A good Fifa will not do any harm, I agree.
Wether Konami makes an improved game or not, it will sharpen the competition between both. Sofar I only did see two short movies from FIFA where they explained some new controls.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

The zoomed out vid's though short, looked good and quite PES like.... As I said on the FIFA forum I wish both games would have more player pitch interaction, scuff marks, wear etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

I'm probably going to play both demo's and then decide which one i'll buy probably pes

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

I usually get both, but end up playing pes more because of its better gameplay and edit mode.

I know, cant believe people are still believing this. Somebody has already posted thats its about a new slide tackle. Which hasnt been confirmed, but its a hell of a lot more logical, even moreso when the person who posted the mexican wave comment (me) is saying that it was nonsense :D i would have thought the sarcasism would have been obvious witht he additional mini-game BS. Should have added, "what my super contact said".

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

I'm feeling a bit more upbeat about PES the last few days.

Although the good things have not been officially confirmed, the news from "contacts" about them trying 360 control, albeit it's not making into PES2008, at least shows the beginnings of the realisation they need to move the game forward, not just tweak.

And the rumours about ML overhaul, again perhaps not as much as we'd want, at least indicates the beginnings of real improvement as opposed to the complete stagnation of recent years.

FIFA's recent improvements looks like they're being built upon this year, and I think Seabass has finally woken up to the fact that he needs to get his finger out, his gameplay engine isn't looking as great as it once did, and he's going to have to start making some real improvements to game as a whole.

In the long run, I reckon PES will be the better package as the core gameplay-engine will have far more complexity to it. There's some real magic even in the current PES that FIFA just doesn't come close to. Add to that a bunch of ML improvements and options and a few ideas stolen from the new FIFA, and PES in 2009/10 could be special.

A good FIFA means we'll surely get an even better PES.

Yes I agree. I think it is a brave action of Seabass to improve a non-visual part like the AI ( Teamvision ). Of course, when you know about tactics, you see this feature, but it is not a graphic improvement or so. Improving this part makes PES take distance again on FIFA on the long term. If all improvements of the ML are true, they jump away from FIFA this year. FIFA are improving, but the analog control are more or less stolen from PES. Even the same stick is used :)
Funny that both are now stealing from each other, if it is true what the previews said. PES turning and ball-control seems FIFA-ish...

As always with Seabiscuit and Co' I will not be holding my breath... I still fear their changes to the ML will have no resemblance to the real world, again why have a Sim on pitch and not off.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Will we have multi player ML, as in I can be one team, anoter mate another team?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Guys Sunderland vs Tottenham is on and there is a pes 2008 advertisement board.

When La Liga was liscened they adervertised Pes in the league...so can this be a sign that premier league is liscened?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Theyve had pes advertisements for a few years now. Doesnt represent anything to do with licensing.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Thank the heavens football is back!

August and September will fly by now! Come on the reds :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

Oh...I dont remember seeing pes advertisement in the premeir league.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/08/07)

I can't wait for the real Premier League patch to come out once this game is out. I may just update my PC if the demo is good enough...

It's nice to see injured keepers for a change.
