WC06 Qualifiers' and Internationals' Thread (June 5th Results)

shocked about the argentina final.

hm... no heinze, no points? ;); not surprised to see italy struggle; too bad about ireland's result, what a strike that by harte; aaaand poland again might as well have sent their kids off to play azerbaijan, no contest! poland have pulled first by two points, England must win our next qualifier... which isn't until September (right?)

Ukraine need to win 1 of their next 3 games... looks like its going to be history for them ... first time ever in a world cup after beating the 'lucky' greeks.

Will be good to see Sheva at a World Cup. Can't say he doesn't deserve to be there, being the greatest striker in the world. Ukraine could reach the second round at least.

Unlucky the Faroes tonight. Gave Ireland a good scare. They'll win one day. One day...

didn't mind most results bar the unlucky scots. felt they could've taken 3 points from belarus at times. would've brought them near play-off range too no?

things that caught my eye:
- jan koller wasn't content with his natural hat-trick, so he banged in the first four goals of the match
- always good to see big names like turkey thrash teams like kazakhstan
- robin van persie in the 4-0 thrashing of the finns at the hands of the oranje
- ireland hanging on against the faroe islands as foxtrot mentioned
- ukraine overcoming european champions greece... zagorakis should've scored on his good run early on in the match
- and finally spain faltering again, 1-1 to bosnia-herzegovina

... and ladies and gentlemen:

Robinho Started - Renato played just 2nd half...
Tevez played only 10 last minutes, replacing #21 Lucho Gonzalez who started the match.

Brazil played a terrible 1st half... and a poor 2nd half... Great FK Goal by R. Carlos.
Adriano in front of the goalie hit the post O.o

Argentina joins Germany, Korea, Iran, Japan and Saudi Arabia into the confirmed 2006 teams list.
Brazil needs 1 victory in one of 3 matches (September 4th @ Brasilia, against Chile surely)

Saudi Arabia are in!
Great performance by Argentina. Unforetunately for Brazil, even a hug from Maradona before the game wasn't enough. He even autographed a shirt for Ronnie (lucky bastard).

We didn't play that well... The Finns did not deserve a 4 goal loss at home. We didn't trash them. We are merely playing a sort of counter football which i don't like. Van Basten is a real good coach, but i hope he can make the team more solid tacticly & technicly, cause we are only winning by motivated players! And that's not the way i want to see my Oranjes! But we are doing good in the quals so i have to wait for the real deal... Hope we can play some nice, solid & beautiful attacking football ;)

Great for Shevchenko, Ukraine has a good team with the veteran Fedorov, Tymoshyuk, Husin, Voronin, Vorobei...

He was sent-off after raising his hands and kicking the ball against Malta.

I think they've missed details such as a Maltese player. :)

hi,

anyone else see Uzbekistan v Bahrain? what the heck was the ref doing with the penalty??!?

Ya saw the match, the ref was confused with a new rule that was made, but atleast its in our favour hahahah.

2nd leg on Wednesday hope we win.

Ivory Coast vs Cameroon finished a while ago
Cameroon won 3-2, Drogba bagged 2 goals, Webo bagged 2 for Cameroon and the other goal was scored in the 85th minute.

Now Cameroon are in pole position, Ivory Coast are hoping that Egypt make a surprise and beat Cameroon next match away at Cameroon.

Brazil beat Chile 5-0 Adraino bagging anotehr hatrick, that makes it 2 hatricks in 2 matches. Simply amazing

Brazil 5 - 0 Chile

A first timer for both Ukraine and sheva.
Great for Shevchenko.

United States 2-0 Mexico (Concacaf) :)

Venezuela 4-1 Peru (Conmebol)

Brasil walking and just partial effort 4-0 Chile.

Yeah, First leg will be played on 8th October, 2nd leg on 12th.
Actaully Uzbekistan appealed against the referee decison to Fifa saying that they wanted the match to be in their favour 3-0 instead of 1-0 but Fifa said that this is not possible and that the match has to be played again.
hahahaha poor Uzbeks we're gonan kick their ass next time.

Anyone see van Nistelrooy's celebration against Andorra? The defender marking him had been quite 'physical' throughout the match and when van Nistelrooy missed a penalty had given him a lot of verbal cheek.

Watch what happens when van Nistelrooy later scores, I think they call this 'The Dutch Chortle' (commentator!). :D
